DESCRIPTION

Every year Hindu pilgrims from all over India travel to the Himalayas to visit the holy places rested at its foothills. Once the snow melts in April, people start their pilgrimage to the land of ancient temples called the 'Chardham'. These four temples ('char' stands for the number four in Sanskrit) have their base in Uttarakhand's Garhwal region. They significantly stand as the spiritual source for four divine rivers according to Hindu mythology- the Ganges (starting from Gangotri), the Yamuna (starting from Yamunotri), the Alaknanda (starting from Badrinath) and the Mandakini (starting from Kedarnath). Hindus literally worship these places and consider them as highly auspicious. The lines below will guide anyone willing to make a Chardham Yatra.

VISITING TIME

This divine area is open to the public between May and November

every year. The peak time for pilgrimage is from May to June. It is risky

to travel in the monsoon season as the route becomes slippery and

prone to landslides. Therefore, it is best to avoid travelling to this holy

land within July and September.

JOURNEY TO THE HOLY LAND:

It is not an easy task to travel to this place but pilgrims take the pain

and risk their very lives to reach here so that they can enjoy spiritual

benefits. While one can access Gangotri and Badrinath using vehicles,

the other two, Kedarnath and Yamunotri are difficult to reach as one

needs to trek to these places. Kedarnath requires a lot of trekking time.
