We caught the train in Bombay, but it was so crowded. Never again! I was the last person to board the plane. I didn’t hear the final call. People often make fun of American or Japanese tourists because they try to see the whole of Europe in one week. Not all tourists have enough time to stay for a few days in one country. This is because they do not have very much time off work. Look at this table to see how many days holiday people in different countries have. The number of days includes public holidays.
These are average figures and some people may get more holiday and some less. In some countries a lot of people don’t take all their holidays. This often happens in the United States, in Japan and, more and more often, in the UK.
Average number of Country days holiday per year
Finland 39 days
Greece 37 days
Japan 17 days
New Zealand 15 days
United Kingdom 20 – 25 days
United States 10 – 15 days

When Ben Murphy arrived in Hong Kong he tried to phone Jenny Chan from the airport but only the mailbox answered. “I’ll try again later,” thought Ben.
He went to the airport hotel desk and asked for a hotel for one night. Then his mobile started to ring.
A voice said, “You called my number.”“Jenny?” Ben asked. There was a pause. Then the voice said, “Who is it?”“This is Ben Murphy.”“Who?”“Ben Murphy of First Choice. We met last week.”“Oh yes.”
Ben asked her if she would like to meet for a drink. After another pause, she said, “OK.” She gave him the name of her hotel. “At 7.30 in the bar,” she said. Then the phone went dead.
