TRANSPORTATION SUBSYSTEMS

Page 2: Transportation Subsystems

What is a subsystem?

A subsystem is a system within a larger system.

Can you think of some example of subsystems?

Page 3: Transportation Subsystems

There are six transportation subsystems.

Propulsion Suspension

Control Guidance Structural

Support

Page 4: Transportation Subsystems

Propulsion

The propulsion system provides the force that moves the vehicle

toward the destination.

Example: Engine and Transmission

Page 5: Transportation Subsystems

Structural

Structural systems accommodate a vehicle’s cargo and form the basic framework of the vehicle.

Examples: Chassis and Body

Page 6: Transportation Subsystems

Suspension

The suspension system supports the weight of a vehicle as it

moves down a pathway.

Example: Shocks, Wings, and Tires

Page 7: Transportation Subsystems

Control

Control systems control speed and direction of a vehicle’s path.

Examples: Steering Wheel and Brakes

Page 8: Transportation Subsystems

Guidance

Guidance systems provide information concerning the

control of the vehicle.

Examples: Maps and GPS

Support

Support systems are used to maintain vehicles

Example: Garages and Gas Stations
