ADDRESS FOR CORRESPONDANCE
The characteristics of transportation systems in India and other developing countries are quite different than those of the systems in the developed countries. Additionally, the growth of the transportation engineering is limited because of the many obstructions. Consequently, the challenges faced by the transportation researchers and practitioners are different and often unique to the local conditions. Many researchers and institutions have been working to overcome these challenges and improve the transportation systems in developing countries. This conference on Transportation Planning and Implementation Methodologies for Developing Countries (TPMDC) will serve as an ideal platform to share the findings on the issues more relevant to the developing countries. Many approaches adopted in developing countries are derived from the work done in the developed countries. Thus, the work more relevant to the developed countries can also be presented in the conference. The conference is being organized by the Transportation Systems Engineering (TSE) group at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay—one of the top technical institutes in the world, established in 1958 by the Government of India. The TSE Group —started in 1988 and currently grown to five faculty members and more than thirty graduate students—is known for cutting edge research and involvement in major transportation studies in India. Starting from year 1996, we have biannually conducting international workshop on Transportation Planning and Implementation Methodologies for Developing Countries (TPMDC). On completion of 25 years of TSE group at IIT Bombay, we are organizing TPMDC-2012 as TSE Silver Jubilee International Conference.
