Information Regarding CK-4/FA-4 Engine Oil Specific to Detroit™ Engines - 28OCT2016
Daimler AG
FAQs about CK-4 & FA-4 1. Are CJ-4, CK-4, and FA-4 oil fully interchangeable?
• Yes, CJ-4, CK-4 and FA-4 are fully interchangeable (i.e. Customers may top off CK-4 or FA-4 oils with CJ-4 or
vice versa)
• *Make sure to use the correct drain intervals for the type of oil that is used.
• DFS 93K218 (CJ-4) Standard Drain Intervals
• DFS 93K222 (CK-4) Extended Drain Intervals [DD13®/DD15®/DD16® for GHG17/GHG14/EPA10/EPA07]
• DFS 93K223 (FA-4) Extended Drain Intervals [DD13®/DD15®/DD16® for GHG17/GHG14/EPA10]
2. Is the customer obligated to continue using FA-4 after the initial fill at the truck plant?
• No, the customer is not obligated to continue to use FA-4, they may switch to CK-4 (also top off) but it is
highly recommended to continue use of FA-4 engine oil for optimal fuel economy.

FAQs about CK-4 & FA-4 3. Do the extended oil drain intervals apply to all model years of DD13®/DD15®/DD16®?
• Yes, extended oil drain intervals apply to all model year heavy duty Detroit™ engines
(DD13®/DD15®/DD16®) when using DFS 93K222 (CK-4) and DFS 93K223 (FA-4) approved oils.
4. What oil can I use in my Series 60®, MBE900®/MBE4000® engines?
• Either DFS 93K222 (CK-4) or DFS 93K218 (CJ-4) can be used in these engines to the currently published
drain intervals.
• DFS 93K223 (FA-4) is not allowed in any of these engines.
