Keynote Speakers and Authors ofShut Up bout Your Perfect Kid
Survival Guide for OrdinaryParents
of Special Children
On a perfection-preoccupied planet, sisters Gina Gallagher and Patricia Terrasi dare to openly speak about
the frustrations, stigmas, joys and challenges they face as parents of children with disabilities (one with
Aspergers syndrome, the other with bipolar disorder).
This refreshingly frank and enjoyable presentation, based on their book, Shut Up About Your Per-
fect Kid, a Survival Guide for Ordinary Parents of special children (Random House, August 2010), has par-
ticipants laughing out loud and celebrating the joys, gifts, and milestones of all children, including spe-
cial ones. Participants will learn
How laughter can be a powerful coping technique.
How to deal with insensitive people.
How to help break stigma.
How to let go of the expectations for your children and love the reality.
The Massachusetts-based authors speak at parenting, mental health, and educational conferences around the
country and have been featured by CNN and in several national radio and print media outlets. They are the
creators of a Face book community with more than 130,000 special needs caregivers worldwide.
