Your challenge:
• Make a lampshade – a piece of functional design
OR• transform materials into a representational
sculpture
Parameters:
• Use only one material (in addition to structural / joining materials – e.g. wire, zip ties
• Elegance of construction and design• No glue gun in lamp project• Minimal glue gun *only invisible* in sculpture• Truly three-dimensional• Transformative (ie. Looks like something else) and
yet clear that it is made of recycled materials (no paint)

• Use more than one main recycled / repurposed material
• Copy someone else’s design• Use glue gun, except minimally in the case of
the sculpture project
I will be looking for:
• Elegance of design• Craftsmanship in construction (professional-
level)• Originality of form / concept• True three-dimensionality• Don’t try to hide materials – make use of their
qualities• Exhibition ready
