DESCRIPTION:

SELECTING THE RIGHT TRANSFORMER FOR YOUR APPLICATIONTransformers for Outdoor and Hazardous LocationsMost dry type transformers are installed indoors in dry, clean locations where general purpose enclosures are sufficient protection. For outdoor applications or for installations in areas with dirty, dusty, harsh, classified areas or corrosive environments care must be taken to choose the proper transformer type for the particular location.

Marcus offers four distinct models which withstand from the mildest to the harshest conditions:

TYPE 3R Indoor/Outdoor Ventilated

TYPE SCR Outdoor Ventilated Enhanced

MODEL CD Outdoor Ventilated 3R (Class 1, Division 2)

TYPE RET Outdoor Epoxy Encapsulated (Class 1, Division 2)

TYPE 3R: Indoor/Outdoor VentilatedProvides protection against rain & falling sleet or applications as well as indoor locations where dripping water is a concern.

• Typical Applications: Tunnels, mines or sheltered outdoor locations.

TYPE SCR: Outdoor Ventilated EnhancedEnclosure with 3R hoods as well as weather-buffer screens provide an extra degree of protection against blowing rain or snow without restricting normal cooling air flow.

• Typical Applications: Roof top installation with air conditioning units

MODEL CD: Outdoor Ventilated 3R (Class 1, Division 2)Ventilated transformers with 3R hoods suitable for locations with hazardous atmospheres

• Typical Applications: Mining, petrochemical and pulp & paper installations

TYPE RET: Outdoor Epoxy Encapsulated (Class 1, Division 2)

Epoxy-encapsulated, non-ventilated transformers completely seals element from the environment. No moisture or containments affects winding. The heat dissipation is through the enclosure radiation only.

• Typical Applications: Petrochemical plants, steel mill, mines and food industry.

Conditions to Consider

Moisture & Humidity

• Dripping and falling Water• Water spraying from different

angles• Wind blown rain and snow • Falling ice

Industrial Ecosystem

• Dust or wood fibers are present• Poor air quality• Flammable gases or vapors• Concentration of Flammable

materials may exist
