Benefits of Caring by Rickey A. Nation

Caring is a dying virtue in this pluralistic and hedonistic soci-ety. Caring means taking the time to invest in the lives of others because our life was invested in first. Webster defines case as “concern,” “a burdensome responsibility.” Other words synonymous with care are:: attention, consider, protec-tion, regard and watch. Caring must be and can be a virtue that is resurrected in order to touch the lives of others. While graduating from undergraduate school, I thought my life was pretty much together. During col-lege, I saw a school counselor and medical doctor to help in overcoming my depression. Now that my life was more stable, not having the pressure of studying, classes, etc., I thought I would live happily ever after. I was wrong. Three months after I graduated, I began to notice the se-verity of my depression increasingly becoming worse. I began having a difficult time coping with life. W hat should I do? I decided to see a counselor. It would be my third. After finding the counselor, I encountered prob-lem-- money. I had not found a full-time job as of yet. How could I afford the fees? While talking to the coun-selor I told him I would not be able to return because of my financial situation. He was obviously moved with compassion and showed he cared by giving me reduced-fee services. I was so moved within by his care and compassion. By caring, this counselor has made a big difference in my life. There are people who care as illustrated in “Lessons From A Young Nurse,” by Re-becca Manley Pippert. It goes as follows: “In an article in Campus Life a young nurse writes of her pilgrimage in learning to see in a pa-tient the image of God beneath a very “distressing dis-guise.” Eileen was one of her first patients, a person who was totally helpless. ‘A cerebral aneurysm (bro-ken blood vessels in the brain) had left her with no con-scious control over her body,’ the nurse writes. As near as the doctors could tell Eileen was totally unconscious, unable to feel pain and unaware of anything going on

around her. It was the job of the hospital staff to turn her every hour to prevent bedsores and to feed her twice a day ‘what looked like a thin mush through a stomach tube.’ Caring for her was a thankless task. ‘When it’s this bad,’ an older student nurse told her, ‘you have to detach yourself emotionally from the whole situation...’ As a result, more and more she came to be treated as a thing, vegetable... But the young nurse decided that she could not treat this person like the others had treated her. She talked to Eileen, sang to her, encouraged her and even brought her little gifts. One day when things were es-pecially difficult and it would have been easy for the young nurse to take out her frustrations on the patient, she was especially kind. It was Thanksgiving Day and the nurse said to the patient, ‘I was in a cruddy mood this morning, Eileen, because it was supposed to be my day off. But now that I’m here, I’m glad. I wouldn’t have wanted to miss seeing you on Thanksgiving. Do you know this is Thanksgiving?’ Just then the telephone rang, and as the nurse turned to answer it, she looked quickly back at the pa-tient. Suddenly, she writes, Eileen was ‘looking at me... crying. Big damp circles stained her pillow, and she was shaking all over.’ That was the only human emotion that Eileen ever showed any of them, but it was enough to change the whole attitude of the hospital staff toward her. Not long afterward, Eileen died. The young nurse closes her story, saying, ‘I keep thinking about her... It occurred to me that I owe her an awful lot. Except for Eileen, I might never have known what it’s like to give myself to someone who can’t give back.” You can make a difference as you begin to in-vest in the lives of others. Everett Hale says, “I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I should do and with the help of God, I will do.” W ill you begin to care? I would love to know how you have made a dif-ference in the lives of others by caring. Write to me and tell me your story. If chosen, I will use your story in a future article. Rickey A. Jack’s Cornerby Jack Hodge

Evangelist and Gospel Singer Carroll Roberson

It all started when I entered Ed McMahan’s Christmas Star Search. I came in Third Place in the contest. After placing in the contest I decided to pick up my Gospel Singing professionally again. This is when I became familiar with Carroll Roberson and his music. I began to sing with his tracks and playing Carroll on my radio show which aired on WSEV out of Sevierville, TN. The following will tell you about Carroll Rober-son’s life and his dedication to God. For me to sit and tell you all the great things Carroll does would take more space then our magazine allows each month. The following paragraphs are from Carroll’s web-site and are being used in my article with his permission.

About Carroll Roberson: From the little town of Ripley, Mississippi, the Lord has called Carroll Roberson to minister to people all over the world. After being saved by the Lord's grace at the age of twenty-eight and after the Lord brought him through a cancerous operation on his throat one year later, Carroll went into full-time ministry. After serving two years as a pastor, he felt the Lord leading him into evangelism. Since 1987, Carroll has been preaching revivals, crusades and singing his music for our wonderful Savior to millions of people. Carroll's music has opened numerous doors over the years for him to share Jesus Christ in word and song.. His music has brought him national and international success r e c o r d i n g over twen-ty-five al-bums and writing over one hundred songs. His music has become one of the most listened to in Christian music today. His clear unique style ministers to

a wide range of people from young to old and even foreign countries. One of his albums, "His Hand In Mine", has sold over 100,000 copies. Even though he has received numerous awards and dozens of hit songs, his first love is preaching God's word. Carroll keeps the Holy Scriptures at the forefront of his ministry. He studies daily from a Hebraic perspective and has helped countless people come to a richer understanding of God's word. He feels his calling is to share the Bible with as many people as possible in this life. He and his wife Donna lead tours to Israel on a regular basis, uncovering treasures from the life of Christ that have changed many people's lives. His love for the Lord and his years of study have qualified Carroll to be a servant and spokesman of God's mercy and grace. Carroll's life is evidence that God uses simple people from ordinary backgrounds for His extraordinary work. Carroll has two boys, Shane and Brandon. He and Donna attend Shady Grove Baptist Church in Ripley Mississippi when they are not traveling on the road You can see Carroll Robinson’s web-site at www.carrollroberson.com Until next time, Stay in Gods Care, Jack Hodge, [email protected], 865-453-3864

Are You Dead?By: Laura West

Are you dead? “Well Laura, I must not be, I am reading this ar-ticle,” you may say. I understand that but may I suggest what I mean is, are you dead to self? Let me give you an example. When someone says something mean or ugly to you or about you do you tend to lash back at them or argue with them or are you silent? I know it is very hard not to lash back but that is exactly what God tells us to do. I tend to compare it to going to a funeral and you walk up to the casket and look down at the dearly de-parted and say, “You sure look bad,” or “You were sure a mean man” and that dead person not saying a word. If they did, we run out of there quick. Why doesn’t that person sit up and yell back at you? Right, because they are dead, dead in the flesh and that is what Jesus wants you and me to be also, dead in the flesh. You may ask, “Well, how do I know if I am dead in the flesh?” Good question. I am glad you asked. If your spouse, friend or anyone says something ugly to

Page 9: Transformation - VOLUNTEER COUPON BOOKvolunteercouponbook.com/documents/ARCHIVE/OVAPR09.pdf · 2015. 5. 1. · • Sunroom, Dining room, Ea-in modert n kitchen • 2 car garage ,

you or about you to someone else do you say “Ouch?” If so then you are not dead. When Jesus was crucified on the cross, we read that he died in about six hours. In fact, the Roman soldiers were coming to check on him and were going to break his legs to speed up his death but when they approached Jesus they noticed he was al-ready dead. Then they checked to make sure by stabbing him in his side with the spear and the Bible says when they did blood and water ran out of his side, he was dead. Why did Jesus die so fast? Because he knew that the sooner he died the sooner Easter, the Resurrection, would come. Reconciliation can’t come until one of the party’s die. When you are fighting with someone else, one of you has to die in order for the fight to be over and reconciliation to begin. Dr. Phil says every fight takes a hero to end it. That means one person to just not fight back and step up to mend the problem. When you die to flesh then the next time, someone takes that spear and pokes it into your side there should be no ouch but rather blood and water running out. That is cleansing and healing of the situation. I believe there are two things that happen when we go through a trial. The first thing is the trial or tribulation brings us revelation. The revelation of how awesome God is and how much he loves us. It brings us into a closer relationship with him because we realize how great he truly is. The second thing I think trials do is they get our focus off of our prosperity and put it on eternity. We start realizing how much we long to be in heaven with Jesus and those who have gone on before us. Suddenly all the material things we have stored up here on earth don’t seem to matter as much. The Bible says that “Wherever your treasure is there will your heart be also.” We would be too rooted in this world if the Lord didn’t allow trials to come our way and he loves us too much for that. So know that the trials and tough times you go through are really for your own good. I know it doesn’t seem like it at that time but it truly is for your best. Learn to die to the flesh and not lash back at someone. Know that God does allow things like that to happen not because he doesn’t love us but rather because he loves us so much. I recently faced a very tough situation in my own life. I was viscously attack by someone’s words whom I thought was a friend and a Christian. My first reaction was to attack back. Trust me. I came very close. Then I just stopped and prayed and asked God what I should

do. That day my Bible study was in Nehemiah. (chap.4 to be exact) I read how Nehemiah was rebuilding the city walls and a man by the name of Sanballat (whose name means thorn in secret) started to attack him by questioning his motives and questioning his past etc. I could hardly wait to read what Nehemiah did knowing he must have had his men attack him or something great like that but you know what it said.” It said Nehemiah prayed. He did not respond to his attacker. What? Are you kidding me? I now knew my answer, to pray and do nothing in return to that person. You see this world is a battlefield. After the world has torn you apart and damaged your soul, mind and spirit, God comes along and restores all of that. I think it is funny how Sanballat’s name meant thorn just like we each have some sort of thorn in our side as we do the work of the Lord. Opportunity knocks in trouble you can give in or you can give up praise. Die to flesh and don’t fight back with evil. God will fight back for us the Bible says. Although I feel it is very sad, there will always be “Sanballats” in your life that don’t want to see you do-ing good or being recognized for doing good. Let me encourage you just like with Nehemiah, keep one hand doing the good work for God and keep your other hand on your weapon. That weapon is the word of God for it is like a two-edged sword. We will have these thorns in our side. Paul had a thorn in his side too. Thorns can help keep us humble and these thorns are allowed to come to us by God. Just watch and pray because we have the best defender, God. It says in Proverbs that “what a bad person plots against the good, boomerangs, the plotter gets it in the end.” It says in Prov. 26, “Mal-ice backfires and spite boomerangs.” I dare you to die today. You won’t be sorry you “dead.” ( ha ha)

Behold the LambBy Dr. Wilma Banner Curtis

“Behold, the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John the Baptist exclaimed, when he saw Je-sus coming to be baptized. If you are a New Testament reader only, you will miss the full meaning of Jesus as the lamb of God whose death brought forgiveness to the world and whose Holy Spirit brings life to believers. Unless you know about the Jewish Festivals or Feasts, Jesus, dying as a lamb for our sins doesn’t make any sense. One important piece of the puzzle is that Jesus died at the Feast of Passover. After the Israelites had escaped from Egypt and they were setting up their laws and temple rituals, God told Moses to set up Festivals or Feasts, some of which were to help the Hebrews remember how He had protected them in the past. One such feast was Passover. Exodus 12 contains the story about the 10th and final plague God sent to Egypt to convince Pharaoh to release the Hebrews, who were his slaves. The tenth plague was that the first born of every Egyptian family would die. Even the first born among the animals of the Egyptians were not exempt. However, provision was made for the Hebrews to be protected. They were to take a lamb or kid, kill it and smear the blood on their doorposts. The death angel would pass over those homes with blood on the doorposts. The Feast of Passover was to remind the Israelites how the death angel had passed over them in Egypt. God heard their cries while Pharaoh was kill-ing all the boy babies. He had heard their prayers for freedom and he had made provision for their escape. The instructions regarding the Feast of Passover were as follows: The family was to take a lamb without blemish, a male of the first year on the 10th day of the first month, which was in the spring. They were to keep

it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the congregation would assemble and kill it at twilight. They would take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and and on the lintel of the Hebrew homes. Then they would roast the lamb or kid in the fire with its head, limbs and entrails intact. They then ate the flesh on that night with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. The unleavened bread was to signify the bread they ate in haste because they didn’t have time to let it rise before leaving Egypt. The normal process was for a person to pro-vide his own lamb for sacrifice, but this time God was providing the lamb, he was providing the sacrifice. Re-member when Jesus shared the Passover meal with his disciples; he broke bread and said, “This is my body

which is given for you.” With the cup, he said, “This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.” This was God’s New Covenant. Once before God pro-vided a lamb. When Abra-ham was going to sacrifice Isaac, God gave him a ram caught in a thicket. I believe the demonstration of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his seed, represented in Isaac, was a way of saying to God that he had permission to do whatever was necessary to accomplish salva-tion for mankind. Abraham had already entered into covenant with God and he had interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah so we know that he had a heart for

people for salvation. My prayer for you, the reader, is that you will understand a little better the picture of Jesus as the Passover lamb. May you experience the breaking of bonds this Easter and head toward your promised land under the guidance of God your Heavenly Father, thanking Jesus for his sacrifice, and praying the Holy Spirit will come and live in your heart. Remember to pray for your nation. Submitted by Dr. Wilma Banner Curtis, Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor, who resides in Clinton, TN. Dogwood photo by Joyce McCulley.

Hiding Under a BushelBy Valerie Mason

The difference is miniscule between the man on the street and Christians. We go about our business at home or in the marketplace running our agendas and rarely sharing our personal testimonies.Yet, Jesus told his disciples to spread the Gospel. That good news had impact on the locals with whom they spoke. The Good News of God’s plan and the sharing of miracles and changed lives always impact some soul “down the road.”So, was the story of a young mother, Debbie Hall of Fort Worth, Texas who volunteered serving food at the Union Gospel Mission? She was like the disciples of old who were told not to worry what to say, just go do and go say. She impacted 100’s of lives before her shortened life here on earth.

One particular street person named Denver was old, mean and reclusive. Others were afraid of him, but his heart melted under her love and perseverance. He could not read, write or function in society until sixty years old. The truth of the Gospel through Debbie’s loving persistence softened his heart toward Jesus. The re-markable story of this modern day slave, the Texas so-cialite and the moving of the Holy Spirit in the heart of her husband Ron is a worthy reading during this Easter season. More than a joyful/tearful read, you will yearn to be used with your own gift to enter another person’s spirit. Read the last week of Jesus life in the book of Mark, take his instructions to his disciples for your own; make this Holy Season true revival starting in your heart and reaching the uttermost parts of the earth…starting here in your Jerusalem. A Way of Escapeby Donna Owenby

We have already made it to the month of April. Easter flowers are blooming. Days are getting longer. The cold winter nights have given way to beautiful warm spring days. New life is springing forth. The death of winter could not hold the tulips in it's cold icy grips. They are springing forth with new life. Chris-tians the world over are celebrating the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We dress in our new Easter garments. We shine a little brighter. Why? Be-cause He is risen! As I was listening to my Pastor pas-sionately plea to those who have not yet made the com-mitment to follow Jesus; he brought forth a message, "The way of Escape." He talked of the illusionists on television who just at the final moment made a "har-rowing" escape. The truth is, they made their escape long before the cameras were rolling and the audience were sitting awestruck in their seats. He asked the same question as the writer of He-brews in chapter 2 verse 3. "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him." The Amplified interprets it, "How shall we escape (appropriate retribution) if we neglect and refuse to pay attention to such a great salva-tion," To neglect means to pay little attention to, or fail to heed; disregard. Bear with me if you will; Hebrews 2:6-7 asks just as David penned in the Book of Psalms, What is man, that you are mindful of him? Thou made him a little lower than the angels and crowned him with glory and honor and set him over the works of thy hands. (paraphrased) Read on just a little further please. verse 7-9 "Thou hast put all thing in subjection under His feet. For in that He put all in subjection under Him, He left nothing that is not put under Him. But now we see not yet all things put under Him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that He by the grace of God, should taste death for every man." Therefore this is a two-fold message. It is for those who have yet to make their great escape. Just as the illusionists do before they hear, "lights, camera, ac-tion," they prepare for their escape. They work some-times months at at time, to perfect their escape. Every second must be planned, every move must be thought out in intricate detail. They know that if one unplanned move, they would surely face a certain death. That my friends is where the world is who doesn't know Jesus

Christ as Lord. They haven't made their "way of es-cape" the writer is speaking of. They have neglected (failed to heed) the salvation given to us when Jesus suffered on the cross. I urge you to be wise as those who prepare their escape before they are met with their life and death decision. I urge you to choose life. Ev-erlasting life.. Now for those of you who have already made your salvation strong and sure. May I encourage you? What are you facing today? Is it cancer? Jesus made a way of escape. The Word says, "By His stripes we are healed." Maybe you are facing, as so many in our economy have had to face, layoffs and financial uncer-tainty, Jesus made a way of escape. Maybe you are wanting peace in your family, Jesus made a way of es-cape. He said, Maybe you are wanting peace for these troubled times, Jesus made a way of escape. He gives us the peace that passes all understanding. If the doc-tors say,"death", Jesus made a way of escape. Jesus has come to give us life and that life more abundantly. If the enemy has lied to you and tell you there is no way out, "JESUS MADE A WAY OF ESCAPE." Jesus is the TRUTH. The Word of God calls satan the father of lies and tells us there is no truth found in him. Just as God led His children through the wilder-ness so many years ago to escape the cruelty of Pharaoh and the land of Egypt, and into their Promised Land. He is leading us forth into our Promised Land. Jesus made a way of escape. I urge you to hold on. Don't give up. Jesus made a way of escape. I have seen time and time again, as God has brought me forth when the enemy had me boxed in. The enemy would look at me and say, "I've got you now. There is no way out." Jesus made a way of escape. The enemy thought he would take my life over and over again. Jesus made a way of escape. Soon and very soon, we will be as the illusionists, how-ever this is not an illusion this is reality. The skies will gave way to the sound of the trumpet. God will give the order, "Son, go bring the Bride home." The trumpet will sound. The clouds will open and our Savior will step out. The dead shall rise, and then together we shall meethem in the air. There will be no more sadness, sor-row, sickness, There will be no more separation only life everlasting. So hold on. If the enemy of our soul, satan has you blocked in just laugh, and say, "Jesus has made a way of escape. I may not see it. But He made a way of escape. All things are under His feet therefore they are under mine." Have a blessed month. The Lord bless thee and keep thee and cause His face to shine upon thee. May God be gracious unto thee and may our God of glory give you peace...

The Crosses and Nailsby Ruth Berkes from the Top of the Plateau

It was morning in a small supply building made of the plentiful stones of Judea. The soldiers who manned this building were the calloused, rough types—prob-ably counting the days until their military duty was finished, and they could go home to the civilization of Rome... “Oh, to leave this desolate, dusty place called Palestine—nothing that really matters will ever happen here,” they would mutter! Crosses were stacked in a corner. They were simply rough pieces of wood cut on the hillsides of the area. No need of fine, expensive wood—for these were the implements of death. Crosses were used to kill the vil-est and lowest of criminals—to rid the Roman world of them and to terrify the population into obedience. The nails were kept in the opposite corner in crude boxes. These were nails made in a obscure foundry of iron ore, probably mined by slave labor. Just ordinary nails, nothing fancy. In the middle of the supply room a small fire was kept burning to break the chill and to try to light the dark place; still it was damp, and the smell of death was in the air. Suddenly, the door opened and a sharp voice of au-thority gave the command, “Three crosses needed and hurry!” As the soldiers hustled to fill the order one asked, as if it really mattered to him, “For what crimes are these crosses needed today?” Harshly, the commander said, “They are for two thieves who never had an honest thought in their lives”...and then his voice mellowed as he continued, “and for one crazy carpenter. He’s a gentle man, but He sure has the Jewish leaders all stirred up. They want to kill him and even the people are calling for his blood! Some call him Prophet, Teacher, or Healer. A few even say he’s the long-awaited Messiah. He says he’s the Son of God and the Savior of Mankind. I heard that Pontius Pilate, the governor, is going to put a sign at the top of his cross which reads, ‘King of the Jews’!” “For the life of me,” he continued, “I can’t see why he created so much hate. Why they even asked for a murderer, to be set free and this carpenter crucified in his place! This is strange...very strange indeed!” The commander’s voice then trailed away in ques-tion, “I wonder who he really is? Everyone seems to have an opinion about this man. I see something ap-pealing in him”—but clearing his throat and straighten-

ing his shoulders, he added, “But, what concern of mine is he? Why should I care?” The dirty crosses and the nails were soon gathered and sent away to be used. Probably, they had been used before. Probably, they would be used again. It was just business as usual at this small, Roman outpost that day. The soldiers were frittering away the hours waiting for their shift to change, when suddenly to their amaze-ment, they noticed the day was getting dark. It seemed as if the light had left the world! And...what was all the excitement in the streets about something being torn open over at the temple? And...what was the rumor about the carpenter being God and would raise himself up from the dead in three days? “Could it be that this man was really someone very special”, they casually asked themselves? Oh, that their eyes could have looked down through the telescope of time and seen how unique this day truly was. This carpenter would raise from the dead and as-cend into heaven. He would be the Redeemer of man-kind, and a few men and women of every age would clearly see him for who he is and understand—for they would ask that his light would glow inside of them. Sadly, most people through out history would be like those lonely soldiers. They would hear...they might even ask a few questions...but then they would choose to stay in the dark confines of indifference and not even care. They would be so close, but they couldn’t or wouldn’t see the truth. At the end of that day so long ago, the soldiers sim-ply shrugged their shoulders, put the crosses away, and went to sleep. Yet, in each generation, a few men and women would continue to mentally take out those crosses again...and re-examine the nails...and ponder that day—and believe!

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: the old is gone the new has come!

Transformationby Bev Schwind

Our daughter Jami, collects the leaves the mon-arch butterflies has laid her eggs on and teaches a home-school class. When the eggs are hatched the caterpillar is on a journey from an earthbound creature to a winged adult butterfly. We are earth bound sinners on a journey with Christ to become a new creation. The caterpillar transforms into a pupa and at that time changes are taking place within him. I saw the caterpillar transforming into a chrysalis in my daughter’s butterfly container. I watched it as it

hung from the lid of the container in the form of a j or a hook. The adult butterfly is selective where she lays her eggs. The monarch chooses a healthy milkweed plant. When the eggs hatch they will eat the leaves for several weeks as they grow into caterpillars Adult species of butterflies vary in size according to the quantity of food they have eaten. When we supply our hearts and minds with spiritual food we grow stronger in faith. As the caterpillar sheds four or more skins, so we need to shed the strongholds that are keeping us from being the new creation God would have us be. Strong-holds of unforgiveness, addiction, depression or what-ever they may be. The process cannot be hurried, as each step is important to reach the final stage. A step in the development cannot be skipped. The butterfly had emerged from the chrysalis, its wings folded to its body. I watched it move so it would have room to hang upside down by its legs from the top of the containerThe butterfly then swallows air and that causes the fluid

Gods Cornerby Jack Hodge This was sent to me by my friend Fred Leonard to share with you. You always hear the usual stories of pennies on the sidewalk being good luck, gifts from angels, etc. This is the first time I've ever heard this twist on the story. Gives you something to think about. Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband's em-ployer's home. My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than their house. The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. The husband's employer was quite gener-ous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was en-joying herself immensely. As the three of them were about to enter an ex-clusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pave-ment for a long, silent moment. Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single dark-ened penny that someone had dropped, and a few ciga-rette butts Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny. He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up? Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer. She casually men-tioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some val-ue. A smile crept across the man's face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this? 'Look at it.' He said. 'Read what it says.' She read the words ' United States of America ' 'No, not that; read further.'

'One cent?' 'No, keep reading.' 'In God we Trust?' 'Yes!' 'And?' 'And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful! When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, 'In God We Trust,' and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message. It seems that I have been finding an inordinate num-ber of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful! And, God is patient.. I have always bent down and picked up pennies anytime I have seen them. So now this makes it even more special to me that I do so. Jack. Until next time, Stay in Gods Care, Jack Hodge, [email protected], www.jackhodge.com, 865-453-3864

The Stoneby Dranel Lenard

I was the stone that closed the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea. My position was a lofty one and I was proud in my job covering the opening of a rich mans cave-tomb, which he recently had prepared his future burial. Late one afternoon, a sad band of men brought a crucified carpenter to place within my caves guarded depths. “What is this,” I said? Why would Joseph of Arimathea, such an important and noble man, be car-rying the body of someone so common? Why would he give up his grand tomb for a criminal? This cruci-fied man should have been buried in the mass grave re-served for such as his lot! It’s almost an embarrassment for me to be the door who closes the tomb under these circumstances! “I thought my job was to guard some-one important, not a criminal carpenter,” I remember saying with wounded pride. The men were in a hurry—soon it would be sundown and the Sabbath. They hastily wrapped the body in the long pieces of swaddling cloth and placed him only partially prepared and unwashed onto the burial shelf. They rolled me shut. Later, I had the royal seal put on me from the governor so no one could tam-per with this burial. “There’s something strange about this,” I thought. Something’s very different about this death. Roman guards were posted all around the tomb. They leaned against me as they told unusual tales about this carpenter claiming to be God’s long awaited Mes-siah, the King of another Kingdom! They laughed as they swapped stories about how the people followed Him to hear His parables, and then how most of them had run away when he was hung on the cross. But, their rough voices grew softer as they re-marked about how they had heard that he healed the sick and even opened blind eyes. Their voices almost trailed away as they told of his many other reported miracles. Also, how he elevated women in society, taught men to love one another and that he said he could forgive people of their sins and give eternal life. He even said, “Men would take his message all over the world!” “This man said he was the ‘Light of the World’”one of the guards smirked, “but, it couldn’t be true because his light certainly went out today! It was a dead corpse that they brought into this tomb for sure! His message won’t be going anywhere!” They all laughed....

Soon, these hardened men were talking loudly about other things and cursing again to stay awake as it grew late. They had to stay awake! They were given the assignment to guard this tomb so no one could steal away the body. They were Roman soldiers and to let a prisoner escape, no matter what the circumstances, meant certain death for themselves...that was Roman law. I, the stone closing the entrance to the tomb, could not stop thinking about this man. There was something unusual about this unique man inside the dark cave. Oh, the stories about him I heard from the soldiers! I had many thoughts to ponder...especially thoughts about him claiming to soon raise from the dead! “Who ever heard about such a crazy idea?” Then with great flourish I added, “All specially crafted grave stones like myself know for certain that when a body goes into a grave dead—it stays that way.” I felt very noble in my authority on this subject... This man in the tomb had said, “That if men would not tell of him that the stones would cry out pro-claiming him! Well, I certainly didn’t have anything to say under these circumstances. I just stood here si-lently, closing the door as I have been made to do. Then, in the coldest part of the night, I heard the Demonic Forces of Darkness mocking and dancing all around. In glee they chanted, “We won! We won! He’s dead! He’s dead and we have won!” In my thoughts I questioned, “Why were all the demons of hell celebrat-ing? Why was this man so different from any other man? What was happening here at this tomb?” All at once, an amazing thing happened! Light, like the burst of a thousand suns, exploded from with-in the bowels of the cave! Immediately, the demons stopped their celebration and shrieked in fright, as they fled in terror! The guards around the tomb swooned and fell to the ground in deep slumber, as mortal men could not bear the divine brilliance. “What is happen-ing?”, I cried out in fear! The light was still blinding, yet I could see movement starting under the wraps. Suddenly, the body came right though the swaddling cloths and stood up on nail scared feet, in radiant health! The body was daz-zling and beautiful, like something right out of heaven. This resurrected man neatly folded the nap-kin that had covered his face laying it aside, and then turned and looked at me. Next, I felt angelic hands roll me to one side, opening the door of the tomb. Then

he walked—no, he almost floated—back out into the world of the living! This was a miracle! I hardly knew what to say! My thoughts were swirling! This had never happened before...and to think it happened in this tomb! Could this really be the Son of God—the Messiah that men had waited for so long? Could this be the picture of resurrection to eternal life that this carpenter had told about? Could this be God’s free gift to all who ask? Yes, yes, he was all of this and more. I cried out, “He is risen! He is risen indeed!” I would be the first stone to cry out! Then, I settled myself to wait quietly in rever-ence with the angel who had been sent. He rested on top of me—and, together we waited for the early morn-ing when the believers would come....and the message would go out into the world. This message of hope was spread to the ends of the earth—just as he said it would be....

God Needs Youby Kathy Coons

I sat down to write this article without knowing what to say. I asked the Lord what words would help His people today. As I sat and pondered over it, I felt the need to remind each of you that just as we need God's help, He needs you. God sees our struggles down here on earth and wants us all to know that He is still with us. Although we have many opportunities to see His presence every day, we don't always see Him. The sun rises and sets every day. God is here. The birds still sing. God is here. Babies are born. God is here. There is air to breathe. God is here. The sun still shines and the stars still twinkle. God is here. And, in so many other ways each day, God shows us that He is here. Unfortunately, because these are daily occurrences, we take them for granted. Especially, when we are go-ing through hard times. One day blurs into another and we no longer see God. That is why He needs us. He needs us to show others that He is here. There are many people out of work right now. What if they spent their days helping others and showing God's love. Instead of focusing on our losses, let's fo-cus on what we can do with our time. Think of all the times you have said "I don't have the time." Yes, you need to keep looking for employment, but while you're looking, ask God to open your eyes to help others. You now "have the time", and God needs you. Live a Blessed Life, Kathy Coons is the author of the Enrichment Guides. http://www.

Romanos 10:13.

to be pumped into the veins of his wings. It remains still until the wings have hardened so it can fly. My daughter watches them and when the wings are moving and the butterfly is ready she sets it free to be what God created it to be. We have been traveling and she had to bring the hatching butterflies along so she could release them at the proper time. Some have ended up being placed on a flower in another state. The butterfly has to be released when the wings are ready and if they do not get out and use them they will dry up. The sun is important to the butterfly, as its body temperature needs to be 85degrees or more before it can fly well. A butterfly hatched on a cloudy day can be seen lying on a flower tying to catch any of the sunrays that may come through. It basks in the sun. The sun gives it energy to be able to fulfill its purpose. We need the Son, Jesus in our life. We need to bask in His word and seek Him in prayer. We need to be still and listen to His word. The butterfly swallows air, so it can fly. God breathes into us the breath of life!

Jesus was placed in a tomb of darkness for 3 days. He emerged in a glorified body and was released into the world and is our salvation. The end result of the butterfly is a worm that through transformation is a beautiful butterfly. It no longer resembles the creature it started out to be. It flies and causes us to stop what we are doing and look at its beauty. When we give our lives o Christ he transforms us. People’s lives are completely changed when they come to know Him. Their facial expressions change, their body language changes and the way they walk in the world changes. Thank you Father that you have created such a beautiful winged butterfly from a crawling creature. Thank you for changing a lowly sinner like me into one of your children.
