Joseph joined Plaxis as a geotechnical engineer where he provides expert services and in-house trainings in computational geomechanics. He has over 7 years of experiences in geotechnical engineering which includes soil & rock investigation, foundation, hard rock and soft ground tunneling, geosynthetic application, slope and embankment stability, as well as deep excavation.

INTRODUCTIONThis two days introductory training is intended for graduate engineers or practicing engineers who do not have prior experiences in using PLAXIS 2D and who are applying their computational knowledge especially in the geotechnical and civil engineering applications.

SUBJECT MATTERThe first part of the course covers the basic functionality of PLAXIS 2D where the possibilities

to model different soils and structural elements, anchors, geotextiles and tunnel lining shall be discussed.

The second part shall cover the use of the finite element method (FEM) for stress and deformation analyses and stability assessment. The following topics are dealt with: the schematization of complex soil conditions obtaining the basic input data for both simple

and advanced soil models

modeling realistic projects with various construc-tion stages

interpreting the computational results

Four hands-on exercises shall also be conducted during the course to aid the participants familiarization of the PLAXIS 2D.

SOFTWAREExercises and case studies are based on the computer program PLAXIS 2D which is used by geotechnical engineers worldwide. This user-friendly code has been developed for deformation analysis, stability assessment, groundwater flow and consolidation.

COSTThe cost of the course is SGD 800. This includes a full set of lecture notes and the use of a computer. Light refreshments will be provided during the breaks.
