Course description
This two-day powerboat course includes taking out a
variety of boats and developing basic seamanship skills
such as handling the boat safely under power in
different situations.
The course covers;
How to launch and recover from a trailer.
High and low speed manoeuvres.
Seamanship skills such as man-overboard,
recovery and anchoring.
Shore based sessions which include instruction
in engine maintenance and legal requirements.
The powerboat level two will enable you to gain the
International Certificate of Competence that is often
needed when boating abroad. It is also a requirement
for most kinds of work involving powerboats.
Requirements
Minimum age is 12 years. For anyone under 16 the
certificate will be endorsed "the holder should only use
a powerboat under the strict supervision of a competent
adult". Successful completion of a Level 1 course
beforehand is advisable.

Course description
For those wishing to develop their powerboat driving,
the safety boat course is designed to train competent
powerboat drivers in fleet rescue and the techniques
required when rescuing small craft such as dinghies,
windsurfers, canoes and kayaks. It is useful for those
wishing to assist with rescue cover at their sailing club
or scout group.
Participants should have driven powerboats for at least
one season once a week or two years on and off.

The candidate will need to demonstrate personal
competence in paddling open water in wind
conditions of force 2-3 and on simple moving water
as part of a led group.
Only candidates that have reached the designated

Prerequisites
Provide evidence of three different journeys
in an open canoe of about 3 hours duration
(10km each) with at least one of these in an
open water environment.
It is recommended that the candidate holds
the BCU 2 star award.

This is a very comprehensive practical two-day course
that meets the HSE guidelines. The course outlines first
aid for people who work remotely in the outdoors,
where advanced medical aid is not nearby and
evacuation may be required. However, the course is
wholly appropriate for those who live and work in urban
areas as well.
This course is recognised as appropriate training by
various national governing bodies, including: RYA, BCU,
MBLA, MLTUK, ML Summer and Winter Awards, Single
Pitch Award, BOF and most others.
Rescue and Emergency Care is an HSE approved
organisation that runs training courses for first aid
instructors and validates courses for the HSE
certificate.

The Sports Leaders UK Level 3 Award in Basic Expedition
Leadership is a nationally recognised award that trains
and qualifies teachers, youth workers and other members
of the community to lead groups in lowland areas; have
responsibility for the care of others when outdoors
including day journeys, and organise base and mobile

The award is the minimum qualification required by many
Local Authorities and Operating Authorities of The Duke

Course Description
This BEL RPL course is designed for experienced leaders
who believe that they already have Recognised Prior
Learning relevant to all nine units of the BEL syllabus.
This particular course has an extra component, the (24
hour) Assessment Interview, which provides an
opportunity for each candidate to show their RPL
evidence, so that they do not have to attend some /any
of the usual 100 hours of training & consolidation.
However all candidates still have to attend the 2 night &
2 day BEL Assessment weekend (20 hours). The BEL
Assessment weekend is a separate course.
To prepare for the (24 hour) Assessment Interview, each
candidate must:

the Teaching Orienteering Part 1 course or former
British Orienteering Level 1 course.
The course will be practically based and you will be
expected to join in with group discussions and

The Outdoor Education Advisors Panel (OEAP) has
developed and designed a range of outdoor learning
support resources to help educational professionals to

This is a new one day course that will train teachers
and youth workers in how to deliver exciting and
inspirational outdoor learning activities using the 50
Outdoor Learning Card resources.

This training day is aimed at teachers, youth sector
workers and people working in schools and outdoor
centres. The training delivers the knowledge,
understanding and practical ability to teach the basic
skills of orienteering. It will introduce the basic skills of

This popular qualification is required by any persons
working in a catering environment where food is
cooked and handled. This also includes group leaders
taking groups on expeditions and delivering lessons /

The prerequisite of this course is a basic
understanding and knowledge of food hygiene and
ideally the L2 in Food Safety.
This qualification has been developed to benefit
anyone working in a supervisory position where food is

High Ashurst Outdoor Education Centre, located in the beautiful Surrey Hills, on
Box Hill near Dorking, now offers fully catered accommodation on selected
courses.
Eco-friendly deluxe log cabins, nestled within
the trees on this 56 acre site, offer
accommodation for up to 20 people. Each log
cabin has six en-suite bedrooms; four
separate bedrooms sleeping four people and
two bedrooms providing accommodation for
two. Each cabin has an additional shower and
toilet for disabled visitors.
Guests can enjoy the comfort of a wood-framed log
cabin after an exhilarating day of training. Each
cabin is heated by an automatic wood fuel boiler
burning locally sourced and sustainable wood.
There is a communal area designed for use as a
group workspace or simply to relax. A kitchenette
area provides a space for making drinks and snacks
between meal times.
All log cabin accommodation is fully catered, including breakfast,
packed lunch and a hot meal in the evening. Meals are served in the
Grand Hall, offering views across the Surrey Hills. As our catering
facilities are on site, we can provide for any special dietary needs.
