TEACHER TRAINING 2020 COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is intended for experienced teachers who are planning to enter the world of teacher training. The course will enhance your knowledge of your own practice as a teacher, develop the core skills of teacher training and enable you to confidently and creatively deliver both pre-service and in-service teacher training sessions. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: How to plan and deliver an input session on a TT topic How to evaluate lesson plans and the resulting lessons How to give feedback in different contexts How to coach colleagues How to deal with potentially ‘tricky’ participants How to reflect on classroom practice and develop an action plan THE TRAINERS: Gill Johnson has been a teacher of English and French for over 30 years and a teacher trainer for 25+ years. She has given plenaries at major ELT conferences internationally and delivered teacher-training programmes all over the world, for Pilgrims, the British Council, and as a Cambridge ESOL CELTA trainer. She has trained on both CELTA and DELTA courses and is a CELTA assessor. Gill is an in-school Professional Tutor and mentor, both for trainee teachers on school placement and for newly qualified teachers. She is the co-author of Culture in our Classrooms: Johnson and Rinvolucri DELTA 2010 and English for Everyone (Intermediate) Dorling Kindersley 2015). In the school term she works as a Deputy Principal, overseeing all things academic, at a busy international boarding school in rural Sussex, but during the holidays she enjoys travelling the world, training teachers and learning about the different contexts in which our brother and sister educators operate.

Tim Bowen has taught English and trained teachers in more than 20 countries, including Russia, China, Brazil, Germany, Serbia, Denmark and Poland. He graduated in Slavonic languages at the University of Leeds, did a postgraduate Certificate in Education (TESL) at the University College of North Wales, Bangor, and has an MPhil in the field of TEFL from the University of Southampton. He is co-author of The Pronunciation Book (Longman), Inside Teaching (Macmillan), The Book of Pronunciation, Proposals for a Practical Pedagogy (Delta), author of Build Your Business Grammar (Heinle), co-author of the student portfolios for the Straightforward series (Macmillan) and author of teachers’ editions for the Attitude, Expressions, Open Mind, Master Mind, Pulse and New Inspiration series (Macmillan). He has been a regular contributor to the Macmillan Onestopenglish site since its inception in 2001. His interests include contrastive linguistics, etymology and pronunciation. He is currently a free-lance teacher trainer, author and translator.

COURSE LENGTH: 22,5 hours COURSE FORMAT: 3 x 1.5 hours over 5 days COURSE TIMETABLE (UK Time): 9am - 12pm: Group sessions 1:30pm - 2:15pm: One-on-one tutorials / self-study, work in sub-groups, project work 2.15pm - 3pm: Whole group session COURSE FEES: £325

Technical requirements: You will need a computer with a reliable internet connection. Please note that you will be sent pre-course information to enable you to familiarise with the platform used on this course.

Language requirements: You will need a B2 level and upwards to participate in this course.

You will be awarded a Pilgrims Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the course.
