Who?Our synopsis will focus around a teenage boy

called Sam, who suffers with a strong case of OCD and follows his struggle through preadolescent life.

The trailer will touch on the fact that Sam is a lonely and quirky young boy and, although being an only child, gets little attention from his parents. This neglect will prompt the audience to sympathise with Sam and provides a visceral pleasure in as much as it will evoke emotion.

What? The trailer will feature clips of Sam’s OCD

showing him adapting to everyday tasks such as; tying his shoelaces, getting ready for school (laying out clothes, packing his lunch, waking up) and will also include his obsession with orange skittles.

By using Toderov’s narrative theory, we have decided that the ‘disruption’ in the plot will involve Sam meeting someone of a complete opposite personality and having to adapt to this.

Where? The main setting locations will be in a house and a

school environment. This is to make it more relatable to a younger audience in order to connect with them more.

Using locations such as these will also be a cheaper alternative to a studio set, which is beneficial to a small independent company like ourselves. A typical convention of the social realism genre is the use of outdoor locations therefore we will be sticking to the stereotype of other films in this genre, as they have been successful in doing it.

When? The time period will be set in the present day

therefore it will be more understandable to the audience. This also makes it easier for us to provide costumes and a practical setting as it matches that of a current day period.

However, elements of the past will be integrated into the trailer as Sam, the protagonist, enjoys old music and acts in a contradicting manner to his generation.

Why?The decision to produce a trailer in the social realism

genre was made due to casting and the time limit in which the trailer needs to be completed. I also watch many films in the genre therefore know the typical conventions to include and am aware of what an audience member would want to see, as I am one myself. This gives our group more experience within this area.

We chose to include a character with OCD as it highlights a minority group that isn’t commonly covered therefore makes our trailer different and unique to the rest. This acts as a USP for our film making us stand out.

How?The trailer will be constructed through an

intradiegetic narration, said by main character Sam, in order for the audience to feel they are more involved within the plot and know the character on a deeper emotional level. The audience will then be able to empathise and position themselves with Sam which provides them with the ability to escape from their own issues and focus on the character, as well as creating individual identity.
