GREETINGS FROM PROMOTORES TEAM
September is finally here which means two things; Fall is heading our way and so are
many of the cultural traditions we celebrate. In Mexico the community is gearing up
for Mexico Independence Day. You can feel the celebration in the air as the
decorations are going up and people are talking about the festivities that are going to be
happening on September 16th. Mexico’s Independence Day is a festival celebration
with colorful decorations, delicious traditional foods, lively parades, mariachi music,
cheerful patriotic displays and fireworks. Whether you're celebrating in Mexico or
elsewhere, this is the perfect time to celebrate Mexican culture and national
identity. Celebrating cultural traditions allows people to share and honor their
traditions with their family and others. Often times when traditions fade, people can
struggle with a sense of loss. The Promotores team is excited to honor this culture
tradition and share a little bit of Mexico’s Independence Day with you and your
family, as well as talk about how traditions contribute a sense of comfort and
belonging .

Upcoming Events: September 3rd: Labor Day– Office Closed
September 14th: Promotores’ Mexican Independence Day Celebration
September 16th: Mexican Independence Day
During the holidays, we often have certain
things we always do, or traditions. Most
families probably have traditions that take
place throughout the year, but especially the
holiday traditions seem to stick in our
memories. Research shows that these
traditions are important in building strong
family relationships between generations.
Traditions are stories, beliefs, rituals and
customs that are passed from one
generation to the next. Keeping traditions for
the holidays as well as the ordinary days
help teach children the things their family
values. These traditions help fill the
individual's need to belong. Being a part of
the special things our family does, helps us
to have that sense of belonging.
Research shows us that routines and
traditions are part of healthy families.
Traditions give security to young people,
providing a sense of continuity and routine
that they can depend on year after year.
Such activities help promote healthy
relationships between the generations when
they are enjoyed and anticipated by
everyone. Children will remember the
special experiences of family traditions more
than toys and gifts.
To make family traditions more memorable,
take the time to talk about the special things
your family does and why it is important to
you. Include the children in planning and
carrying out the special activities. This will
give them a feeling of pride and belonging to
actually be a part of the traditions. It also
helps them to understand why your family
does these special things. If traditions are a
part of your religious or cultural heritage, it
gives the young people a sense of their
family history.
Sometimes, as our families change, our
traditions change with us, and that is all
right. For example, you can still have the
family all get together for a time of sharing
and a special meal, but the place or the
menu might change over the years. Or,
perhaps now you use disposable dishes
instead of Grandma's china. The important
thing is that you get together as a family to
share memories and pass on the family
traditions and values.
Traditions help to bind us together as a
family. Make it a point this year to include
your children in family traditions that will
provide them with a sense of belonging and
build memories for their future.

MEXICAN
INDEPENDENCE DAY
About Independence Day Independence Day celebrates the day Miguel Hidalgo is believed to have made the cry of independence (El Grito de la Independencia) in the town of Dolores, in the north-central part of the Mexican state of Guanajuato. Hidalgo was one of the nation’s leaders during the War of Independence in Mexico. There is no scholarly agreement on what was exactly said by Hidalgo, but his speech, also known as the cry of Dolores (el Grito de Dolores), was made on September 16, 1810 to motivate people to revolt against the Spanish regime. Hidalgo’s army fought against the Spanish soldiers in the fight for independence, but he was captured and executed on July 30, 1811. Mexico's independence was not declared until September 28, 1821.
What happens in Mexico on around this time Independence Day is a national public holiday in Mexico. Banks, schools, government offices and many businesses are closed. Some streets and roads may be closed or restricted in major cities to make way for large celebrations. People intending on travelling via public transport in Mexico should check with public transit authorities on any timetable or route changes.
Celebrate Independence Day Mexicans celebrate their country’s Independence Day with fireworks, parties (fiestas), food, dance and music on September 16. Flags, flowers and decorations in the colors of the Mexican flag – red, white and green – are seen in public areas in cities and towns in Mexico. Whistles and horns are blown and confetti is thrown to celebrate this festive occasion. "Viva Mexico" or "Viva la independencia” are shouted amidst the crowds on this day.

Sobre La Cultura :
DÍA DE LA INDEPENDENCIA
MEXICANA
Bancos, escuelas,
oficinas gubernamentales y muchas empresas
están cerradas. Algunas calles y caminos
pueden estar cerrados o restringidos en
ciudades principales para dar lugar a grandes
celebraciones.
generación a otra.
Tales actividades ayudan a
Incluya a
