2. What Is Energy?Energy is the capacitythat an object or bodyhas to transform a source of energy into work. The energy is measoured in Joules, (J) and KiloJoules (kJ). Heat is also measured in Calories,(cal) as Joules, calories have a larger Unit, KiloCalories, or Kcal. 3. Types of EnergyKinetic Energy: The energy that Objects have when they move.Potential energy: The energy that objects have when their equilibrium Point is moved. 4. Types of Energy (II)Electrical Energy: Its the energy Of an Electric CurrentElectromagnetic Energy: The energy of electromagnetic waves 5. Types Of Energy (III)Sound Energy: The sound waves which are transmitted through vibrationsChemical Energy: the energy asociated with Substances or atoms. 6. Types Of Energy (IV)Nuclear energy: Its contained in the nuclei of atoms. Its the vibration of particles in matter. 7. Energy SourcesEnergy Sources Is The Resource where we get the different types of energy. There are renewable and non-renewable. Both will be explained in the following slides. 8. Non-Renewable Energy SourcesThey are types of energy which will end, sooner or later. They were formed Many years ago, they are found deep underground and need special machinery to be extracted. They are explained In the next Slides. 9. Nuclear EnergyIt is stored in the nuclei of atomsIt is released by making the atoms crash each other by:Nuclear Fussion: 2 light nuclei for a bigger nucleusNuclear Fission: One Big nucleus is split into 2 10. CoalIt was formed 300 Million years Ago, by the remains of plants and animals. Its extracted in 2 ways:Open-Cast Mines: When the coal is found near the surfaceUnderground Mines: When the coal is found deep underground. 11. PetroleumIt was formed by the transformation of the organic remains of the earth, by the bacteria. It has lower density than water has.It is extracted by oil rigs, they use wells to find the petroleum and by pumps or natural force it gets pushed up to the surface. Then it gets purified, after that, an oil tanker carries it to its destination by sea. 12. Natural GasIts a mixture of gases formed by the decomposition of plants and animals. Its found in underground gas fields, usually you find petroleum near it.Its extracted by drilling. Its transported by transforming it into liquid and moving it through gas pipelines. Its destination is a Liquefaction plant. 13. Renewable energy SourcesNow We Will explain several types ofrenewable energy sources. A renewableenergy source is a source which energy wontrun out, there are unlimited Resources for it. 14. HydraulicThe hydraulic energy is the type of Sourcethat produces energy from the water. It can be found in Hydroelectric dams. This energy ischeap, clean and it is not polluted, butbuilding the dams is very expensive, and in case of breakage, there is a huge risk of catastrophe. 15. SolarThe solar energy is the source of energy thatuses the Sunlight to produce it. The Machinethat helps us obtain & Transform the solar energy Are the solar panels. This energy isclean and unlimited, but its quite expensive. 16. WindThis energy has been always used for moving things, such as ships, Blades... The machine we use to produce this energyare Wind Turbines. This type of energy is VeryCheap, And unlimited. 17. M a r in eTh e r e a r e 3 typ e s :Tid a l: E x t r a c t e d F r o m t h e Tid e sW a v e : O b t a in e d f r o m t h e w a v e sO c e a n t h e r m a l: G o t t e n f r o m t h ed if f e r e n c e o f t e m p e r a t u r e o f the s u rfa c e a nd b o tto m o f the sea. 18. GeothermalThis energy comes from the heat stored belowthe earth, such as geysers and volcanos.Depending on the temperature, we canproduce heat or electricity 19. Biomass It is produced from organic matter waste and and plant remains. It is used in 2 ways: Toproduce electricity and to produce fuels, theseare: charcoal, biogas, biodiesel and alcohol. 20. Municipal Solid Waste (M.S.W)This is the waste that we produce in ourhomes, demolition of buildings, etc. This is iswhat goes to the Landfield. Electrical andThermal energy is produced through theincineration of these wastes. 21. Types of power StationsIn the following slides we will explain thetypes of power Stations that operate allover the world these days. A Power station isusually a building which its only objective isto produce energy. 22. Nuclear power plant A nuclear power plant is the place where the nuclear energy is extracted. In it, the heatsource is One or more chemical reactors. Theheat produced by them is them moved to a Boiler which rotates a generator to produce electric current. 23. It works as follows: 24. Oil rigAn oil rig is the place where oil gets extracted. It is usually in the sea. It works with a drill which is mined deep underground, near the oil. When it reaches the oil, the drill is pulled up and the oil rises by pressure, or by action of pumps 25. How does it work? 26. Natural gas Power Plant It is extracted the same way as petroleum, infact, when you look for petroleum, you usually find natural gas over it. A drill is minedunderground until it reaches natural gas, thenby pressure or the force of a pump, The gas pulls up. 27. How does it work? 28. Hydraulic power plantAn hydraulic power plant is usually placed in rivers, its a big wall by which water passesthrought conducts and moves a generator toproduce electricity. 29. How does it work? 30. Solar power plant A solar power plant is the place where solar panels are grouped to produce energy. They have photovoltaic cells which catch the sunenergy and transform it into heat or electricity. 31. How big is it? 32. Eolic power plantAn eolic power plant is a group of windturbines which produce energy from the wind. They Are usually on Windy places like Valleys. The wind moves the blades of the turbine which rotate a generator. 33. How does it work? 34. Coal Mine.A coal mine is the place where coal is extracted. As explained before, it can beburied underground or at the surface of theearth. Special machinery is used to extract this material. 35. How Does it work? 36. Geothermal Power stationThis is the place where the heat from earthscrust is stored and transformed into electricity, or kept in heat form. 37. How does it work? 38. Municipal Solid Waste PlantThis is the place where our Daily Trash isincinerated to produce electrical or eitherthermal energy. The incineration temperaturesshould always be over 900C and Filters wouldbe used to prevent the release of toxic substances to the atmopsphere. 39. This is How it works: 40. Wind Turbine creates Water FromThin Air Our Oppinion. When we first readed it, it looked likesomething by which you think: How Come thiscan be done? But as we scrolled down wenoticed that the procedure is actually quiteeasy. Just pick air, extract the humidity, cool it down and you got water. Simple as that. 41. Would this help underdeveloped countries? We think it will. Just get someone nice todonate the 500k it costs and You got water for like 3-4 african villages. We think that if you made a NGO (Non-Gubernamentalorganisation) you could quickly get some ofthese installed in africa. For like 20 per family and month, 500 members, you get 10000 per month, you can get the money for one in like 2.5 years. Easy. The thing that reallyimpressed us is that it can produce 1000l of water a day. One THOUSAND litres of water?thats a lot. Overall, amazing idea. We liked it a lot
