2011-2012 Teacher of the Year Program

The Teacher of the Year program is designed to honor and recognize excellent

teachers working in the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD). This is a unique

opportunity to provide well-deserved recognition for the whole teaching profession,

as well as for the distinguished teacher that is nominated. Parents, students, staff, and

community members have the opportunity to nominate any pre-kindergarten

through twelfth grade teacher. A selection committee consisting of teachers,

administrators, a school board member, and a community member will determine

the AUSD Teacher of the Year for 2011-12. The AUSD Teacher of the Year will be

formally recognized by the Board of Education in May of 2012. The selected teacherwill be honored by the Alameda County Office of Education in the Fall of 2012 and

becomes eligible for the Alameda County Teacher of the Year Award and the State

Teacher of the Year Award.

The Teacher of the Year Nominee must:

Have teaching as the primary responsibility Teach in a pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade environment Have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience Possess a valid, clear professional credential MeetsNo Child Left Behind (NCLB)compliancy requirements Demonstrate knowledge and evidence of the California Standards for the

Teaching Profession (CSTP)in their practice:

o Engage and Support All Students in Learning (CSTP 1)o Create and Maintain Effective Environments for Student Learning (CSTP2)o Understand and Organize Subject Matter for Student Learning (CSTP 3)o Plan Instruction and Design Learning Experiences for All Students (CSTP 4)o Assess Student Learning (CSTP 5)o Develop as a Professional Educator (CSTP 6)
