This 4.3 mile road race takes place on the Saturday before Thanksgiving – November 19th at 10 am. Registration begins at 9 am in the DMS Cafeteria. A turkey will be given for all category winners! All Runners will receive
a Turkey Trot t-shirt. Fee for this event is $10. (cash or check)Please bring a canned good and/or non-perishable item for the local food bank.

WINTER BASKETBALL FEE: $75This popular program is available to boys and girls grades 3–8, beginning the week of December 12, 2011thru February 18, 2012. The coach’s meeting will be held on Monday, December 5 at 8 pm.
HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL FEE: $75For boys and girls grades 9–12. This program begins the week after Christmas Vacation and be held onSaturdays at DMS.
SMALL BALL FEE: $125This program takes place on Sundays at the Duxbury High School gym running January 8th thru February 12th.Kindergarten takes place from 10-10:45am. Grades 1-2 takes place from 11am-12 noon. Small Ball is a funintroduction to the game of basketball. Children will participate in drills that teach them footwork, passing, dribblingand shooting in addition to playing games. Instructor: Billy Curley, Former Duxbury High School state champion,Boston College Hall of Famer, retired NBA veteran, and current assistant coach of the men’s basketball team atEmerson College.
AFTER SCHOOL ATHLETICS FEE: $80The Recreation Department will once again offer our After School Athletics program for the second semester of theschool year beginning the week of January 9 and continue through June 14. This program is offered to boys andgirls grades 3–5. These groups meet once a week for one hour of organized activities from 2-3 pm. Grade 3 willmeet on Monday; Grade 4 on Tuesday; Grade 5 on Thursday; and Grades 3-5 on Wednesday.
LITTLE ATHLETES This program consists of a 50-minute class where children learn a positive approach to staying active. Activities revolvearound building self-confidence, laughing and having fun. Children will learn to run and balance using cones and ladders,play silly games and be introduced to new sports! Program takes place at Athletic Republic, 187 Summer St. (Cran-berry Crossing), Kingston. (No classes February or April vacations)Ages 3-6: January 3–February 17 OR February 28–April 13 Tues 10am, Thurs 9am OR Fri 11:30am FEE: $100Kindergarten: January 24–March 30 Tues 9am or Fri 1:00pm FEE: $120
ROCK CLIMBING FEE: $90This is a 6-week program for boys and girls ages 7-15. Participants will learn the basic fundamentals of indoor rockclimbing and be given the knowledge and skill to take it to the next level. Instruction given by certified belayers, withall equipment provided. Classes take place Thursdays 5-6pm at Lighthouse Fitness in 430 Court St., Plymouth, MA.(No classes February or April vacations). There are two sessions offered: Session I: January 5 – February 9 Session II: March 1 – April 5
INDOOR ROCK & ADVENTURE PROGRAM FEE: $120This 8-week program will focus on bringing new obstacles to even the most thrill seeking individual. Soaring down a 90 ft.Indoor Zip-Line, stacking crates up to 20 ft. high, climbing vertically and horizonally on the indoor rock wall and across theceiling high monkey bars, as well as rappelling and down-climbing a multi-level staircase will give the most daringindividual a rush of a life-time. These “no fear” adrenaline-rushing activities will keep the most experienced adventurejunkie craving more. Ages 7-15. Lighthouse Fitness, 430 Court St., Plymouth, MA.Session I: January 9 – March 5 (no class 2/20) Session II: March 12 – May 7 (no class 4/16)Mondays 3:30 - 5 pm.
FEBRUARY VACATION ACTING WORKSHOP FEE: $160This program is available for children ages 6-15. This workshop will be held February 21-24, 9 am-4 pm at the DuxburyHigh School auditorium and will be conducted by the South Shore School of Performing Arts in which participants willreceive acting instruction and direction during an intense 7-hour-a-day workshop. It will finish with a full-scale productionof “Alice in Wonderland”.
ICE SKATING FEE: $135This is an 7-week introduction to skating classes will be held at The Bog in Kingston and consists of a 40-minute lessonand 10 minute practice. The program is for ages 3 years thru Adult. Please bring fitted and sharpened skates, hockey orbike helmet and gloves to each class. Hat, snow pants, elbow pads and knee pads are recommended. Please arrive at least10-15 minutes prior to start of class. INDOOR HORSEBACK RIDING FEE: $140This 4-week program is an introduction to horseback riding in which participants work on balance, strength and coordina-tion on horseback through a series of exercises and drills. Licensed instructors and veteran horses start the rider with basichorseback riding skills. Continued study possible at completion of program. accepted after the two (2) week registration period.• The Recreation Department reserves the right to consolidate,
postpone, or cancel a program/trip for any reasonable cause.
• Proper behavior in Recreation Department programs is expected at all times. If improper behavior cannot be corrected after the first occurrence, then parents will be notified that the child will have to be excused from further Recreation Department programs.

WRESTLING FEE: $45*This 4-week program will be offered for boys in grades K–8and takes place on Sundays beginning January 8 will meetfrom 4:30 -5:30 pm. These intro classes consist of corestrengthening and stretching as a warm-up, sport wrestlingskills and lots of wrestling for strength and endurance. Pool AfterSchool Club mem-bers will be met at Alden School by a PWP staff member at 2pmand walked over to the Pool, where kids will have a chance tohave a snack and change for their pool time. From 2:30-3:30 thestudents will have both structured and play time in the pool.Pickup by their parent/guardian will be at 3:30pm at the poollobby. Students will need to bring: bathing suit, towel, and sup-ply their own snack. (Parents will need to provide the Alden SchoolOffice with an Alden Dismissal Form giving their child permission towalk with PWP staff from Alden to the Pool.) Middle & High School Programs (grades 6-12)GuardStart (grades 6-8, 3 parts)— GuardStart will studentsthe opportunity to improve their decision-making skills, developas leaders, and learn some of the basics of Red Cross Life-guarding. Parts 1 & 3 (fall & spring) will cover leadership anddecision making, swimming skills, and basics of water rescue.Part 2 (winter) will cover CPR and First Aid skills. Pre-requisitefor parts 1 & 3: Must be able to swim front crawl for 25 yards, treadwater for 1 minute, and swim 10' under water. Cost is $180/session.Monday, 3:15-5:00 pm (fall, winter & spring)
Babysitter’s Training — This Red Cross course gives youthages 11-15 the knowledge and confidence to care for infants andschool-age children. Combining video, activities, hands-on skillstraining and discussion for a complete learning experience,Babysitter’s Training teaches youth how to: respond to emer-gencies and illnesses with first aid, rescue breathing, CPR andother appropriate care; make decisions under pressure; commu-nicate with parents to learn household rules; recognize safetyand hygiene issues; manage young children; feed, diaper and carefor infants; start their own babysitting business. This is an 8hour course. Cost is $95, includes all materials.Wednesday, 3:15-4:30 pm

Water Safety Instructor— Certification courseto be a Red Cross Swim Instructor; participantsmust be at least 16 years of age by the comple-tion of the course, demonstrate all six swimmingstrokes at a Level 4 competency or better, and beable to float for 1 minute. Students will learnteaching skills as well as the basics of how toteach swimming and water safety skills to allages. This is a 30 hour course. Lifeguard Training— Certification course to bea Red Cross Lifeguard; participants must be atleast 15 years of age by the completion of thecourse, be able to swim 300 yards continuouslyusing front crawl and breaststroke, and retrieve a10lb. brick from a depth of 10 feet. Upon suc-cessful completion, students will possess Life-guard, First Aid and CPR with AED certi-fications. This is a 30 hour course. CPR with AED Training — This course com-bines discussion, video and hands-on trainingusing real-life rescue scenarios to reinforce deci-sion-making skills. Course covers how to respondto breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults,children and infants. There is no minimum age,but student must be able to understand all the ma-terial and pass both written and practical exams.Upon successful completion, students will be cer-tified in CPR with AED. Aquacise—Get in shape while in the pool! Theinstructor will guide the class through exerciseroutines that will stretch you out and help tonethose muscles.
