BOARD OF DIRECTORS

EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT STAFF

It is amazing how quickly a year goes by! The 125th year of

Town & Country Club has been a great one, with many

significant accomplishments including: the fantastic changes

occurring on our golf course, the renovation of the bathrooms in

the Clubhouse, and the rejuvenation of our caddie program. In addition, we

continue to maintain a strong membership and we are in solid financial shape which

sets us up well for the future.

All of this could not have been done without the efforts of many people. I want to

thank our outgoing Board members: Jack Grace, Dick Berens and past president

Jim Moar for their years of dedicated service to our Club. I would also like to thank

the rest of the Board of Directors who contribute a lot of their personal time for the

betterment of our Club. I also want to thank our fine staff (led by our General

Manager, Vince Tracy), who continually provide us with a great experience each

and every visit. Finally, I want to thank all of the members of T&C for your ongoing

support of our Club. T&C is a special place and I’m convinced that one of the

reasons why T&C continues to be a healthy and vibrant Club is because our

members and staff truly care about our Club and its future.

I look forward to seeing everyone at our 126th Annual Meeting on December 13th

and I wish you all the best this Holiday Season and the New Year!

MEMBER FOOD ALLERGY LIST Do you or someone in your family have a food allergy? We not only want to serve you better, but we want to serve you period! This year we worked hard to bring the awareness of food allergies to our staff and even bought food allergy

bracelets your children can wear to help alert staff. We now would like to compile a comprehensive list of everyone who suffers from a food allergy and of course what foods they are allergic to. This list will be kept at the Front Desk and in the Kitchen. If you would like to be included on the list, please email me at [email protected] or Mike Ostlund at [email protected]. ANNUAL DINNER You will be wowed at this year’s 126

th Annual Meeting and Dinner Dance. You

never know if you might even see F. Scott Fitzgerald himself. Reservations are filling up quickly, so please make your reservation today! Remember, due to space constraints, we are restricted to tables of 10. If you are attending another elegant soirée that evening, please make plans to join us for desserts and dancing after 9:00pm. ANNUAL CLOSEDOWN Mark your calendars for the 2014 annual closedown. The Club will close on Monday, February 17

th and reopen Tuesday, March 4

th. Our annual Pirates,

Princesses & Superheroes family event on March 11th is a great way to welcome

back families to the Club! During closedown, we plan to perform our usual painting and deep cleaning, along with installing our new computer software.

General Manager

Vincent J.C. Tracy, CCM, CCE

The gates to the course have been locked, snow is in the air and the Holiday Season is right around the corner…. welcome to winter. Now is a great time to remind everyone about the Club’s award winning wine program. Wine list markup is minimal on some of the greatest vintages from some of the world’s finest wineries.

Case in Point…the annual Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of the Year list was recently released. Of this year’s Top 100 wines, Town & Country Club offers 12 (of the top 100) including three selections in the top 10:

#3 Domaine Serene, Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir #4 Hewitt Cabernet Sauvignon #9 Lewis Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Other selections include: #12 Turley Dusi Vineyard Zinfandel, #17 Alexana (by Revana) Pinot Noir, #31 Patz & Hall Hyde Vineyard Pinot Noir, #49 Failla Chardonnay, #64 Rodney Strong Rockaway Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, #72 Shafer Relentless, #83 Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, #87 Grahams 20 Year Old Tawny Port and #97 Louis Roederer Brut Champagne. Don’t forget that on Wednesday and Friday evenings bottles on our Wines By The Glass list are offered at ½ price. So next time you're enjoying one of our seasonal menu offerings, don’t hesitate to ask for the wine list or a recommendation from our staff. Make sure to pay close attention to January’s Newsletter as we will again be offering the member wine sale to help clear out the cellar! Stay tuned…

Cheers and I will see you around the Club.

A Wonderful time of year for Club Review

This is a great time of year to take note of all your clubs and address any issues which may have been a problem this past season. It's very possible that you can improve your game without even swinging your clubs.

Callaway, TaylorMade, Titleist, Odyssey and Scotty Cameron all design and manufacture great clubs. The R&D is top notch and the manufacturing processes they utilize are extensive. In the end, these clubs all look fantastic and can perform at exceptional levels. In order for that to happen though, subtle improvements are often helpful.

For instance, putters can be shortened or extended, as can drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons and wedges. Loft and lie angle can be adjusted in putters, irons and wedges. Woods and hybrids can be repainted and/or touched up to improve their look. Shafts can be changed in any club. The grips can be replaced no matter the club. Also, it may be helpful just to find out the exact specifications (length, flex, weight, swing weight, loft, lie) of your clubs to make sure they are complimentary to each other.

The high tech world of golf clubs provides us all with excellent options for clubs. It's up to us to make sure they perform at their best by making subtle modifications when necessary. Be sure to talk to the great staff in the Golf Shop with any questions. We'll make sure your club(s) are ready for your next round and/or trip out of town.

Happy Holidays to one and all! I hope it is a safe and happy season for all of you this year. Thanksgiving was a great success again and thank you to all who shared their family gathering with us this year. Holiday To-Go orders were vigorous for Thanksgiving and I would like to encourage you to take advantage of this service for your Christmas gatherings. Order Forms are available online, at the Front Desk or in your November statement. Simply mail, fax, or phone in your order and we’ll handle the rest.

At this time of year, the Clubhouse is very busy with multiple catering events almost daily; however, please continue to enjoy the dining facilities, as we enjoy catering to our members the most. We have some great specials and events planned throughout December and I look forward to seeing you around the Club. I will continue my local vendor spotlight this month with Chieftain Wild Rice. They supply our gourmet rice blends and of course, wild rice as well. I have used this company for at least fifteen years and many of you have enjoyed their products on our menus. I have included an excerpt from their website to further explain their services.

Since 1957, Chieftain® Wild Rice has provided a distinctive, high quality wild rice to our customers. What began as a small operation out of a garage has flourished into one of the leading wild rice producers in the industry today! Contributing to Chieftain’s® success is that we grow, harvest, process and distribute our wild rice. This gives us complete control of the process and assures the quality of our products. Additionally, we are able to use environmentally friendly practices and strive towards sustainable farming. Our wild rice is grown on a family farm in Aitkin, Minnesota. Headquarters are based in Spooner, Wisconsin. We rotate crops in the fields to increase soil fertility. Rice stalks from previous harvests are plowed back into the ground to help as a natural fertilizer. The wild rice crop is ready for harvest each year around Labor Day. After curing, the rice is processed in small batches. Dry Roasting is a centuries old processing method that produces a rich, distinct flavor. Instead of parboiling the rice, which adds moisture and can result in a musty flavor, Dry Roasting reduces the water left in the kernel. As a result, from our farm to your kitchen, you are guaranteed a natural, flavorful wild rice. At our headquarters in Spooner, Wisconsin, our wild rice is blended and packaged. With approximately 20 employees; Chieftain® prides itself in offering a work environment that supports flexible schedules for families with children or oth-er outside interests.

Any given morning, you can find her answering phones, greeting guests, tracking reservations, and keeping things running smoothly around the Club. Judy is the go-to person when Members, guests, and coworkers need answers. If she doesn’t know, she will find someone who does!

Memory from the first day of work: On her first day, Judy remembers feeling an instant sense of belonging at T&C. It never felt like a new job, it felt like home.

Fondest T&C memory: Judy’s fondest memory is seeing Susan Johnson walk through the front door for the first time on her new prosthetic legs. Also, seeing members, coworkers, Susan’s family and friends come together to help during a difficult time makes Judy proud to be part of this community. This generosity and spirit of support is what T&C is all about. Plans to retire?: No plans to retire yet. In fact, Judy plans to keep on working until she can’t hear anymore! Best part about working at T&C: Judy’s favorite thing about working at T&C is that it’s a family. It’s a good feeling to know that everyone always has her back. As we celebrate our 125th Anniversary of Town & Country Club, we hope you will enjoy as we share a bit of T&C Club history in each issue of our newsletters throughout 2013. We also encourage you to leisurely review and admire our unique and storied history as illustrated throughout the walls and trophy cases in the Clubhouse.

Derived from the St. Paul Winter Carnival civic leaders longing for social festivities to last year-round, proudly known as the Birthplace of Minnesota Golf; today, Town & Country Club stands strong, thriving as a national leader in the private club industry. On February 13th, 2013, members of Town & Country Club gathered to celebrate the 125th anniversary of our special club, and the celebrations continued throughout this past year. Perhaps the most significant reflection of 125 years of success, is the commitment to continuously enhance the Club’s amenities, including the Bunker Project. A capital improvement project that will forever change the original golf course of Minnesota for the better; to be the best. Hole-by-hole, members have witnessed these historic changes on their beloved course, which will continue into 2014 and provide a lasting impression for many years to come.
