Consolidated Dispatch Update
Dyer Police Department Awarded Federal Grant
Dyer PD is scheduled to move its dispatch operations into the Lake County Consolidated Dispatch
Center during the week of October 21st. Once Dyer PD dispatchers are relocated to the Consolidated
Dispatch Center located in Crown Point there will be minor changes to the way Police/Fire/Ambulance
requests are handled. As always, if you have a need for Police/Fire/Ambulance 911 will always be the
fastest and best way to request it. If you have questions, need copies of a report, or any other situa-
tion that does not require a Police/Fire/Ambulance unit to respond please call the non-emergency
phone number for Dyer Police 219-865-1163. Once consolidation has occurred the Dyer Police Clerk/
Records Division will be open Mon-Fri 8:30am – 6:30pm and is located inside the Police Station at
2150 Hart Street. The Police Department lobby will be open 24 hours 7 days a week, and will be
equipped with an emergency call phone that will allow direct access to a Police/Fire/Ambulance. If
you have any questions or concerns please contact 219-865-1163.

Dyer Police Department was recently awarded a federal grant for $125,000 to assist with the hiring of
a new officer. The additional hire will allow the Dyer Police Department to expand Community Policing
initiatives within the town. The Dyer Police Department will
enhance current programs such as SRO (School Resource
Officer), DARE, STARR Program (anti-bullying education),
and Bike Patrol. Dyer PD will also begin new initiates for a
Senior Outreach program. This program will give seniors a
Police Department contact officer that they can call on

Fall Leaf Pick Up
Leaf pickup has been scheduled to begin October 12th and run through November 23rd. For your
planning purposes, the town has been divided into five areas with five different leaf pickup dates for
each area. The map showing these five areas and the scheduled dates can be found on our website,
www.townofdyer.com on the home page. A copy of this map and schedule will also be available at the
Dyer Town Hall.
Please note that there may be delays with these dates due to bad weather and the volume of leaves.
The Department of Public Works asks that you please place the leaves in your parkway, being careful
to keep them off the street and sidewalks and away from fire hydrants and storm water drains. Be
sure that only leaves are placed in the leaf pile as anything else may cause harm to the leaf vacuum
or the operators of the machine.
Leaf pickup is a seasonal service. DPW will be preparing for the plowing season and will not be pick-
ing up leaves after November 23rd. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please call Public
Works at 865-4222.
Halloween Safety Tips from the Dyer Police Department Children should trick-or-treat during day-
light hours.
Children should never be allowed to go
out alone on Halloween.

ined before eating.
Advise children that they should never
enter strangers’ homes.

Instruct children not to stray from their
group.
Adult escorts should carry flashlights.
Don’t leave your home unattended on Halloween

Public Works would
like to remind you that
this is the time of the
year to check your
mailbox for
cracked/rotting posts,
secure doors that will
stay latched, and
make sure the box is
in a vertical/upright
position. Your mailbox
should be structurally
sound to withstand the
snow discharge from
the plows. If your mail-
box is in unstable con-
dition and is knocked
down from the snow,
the Town of Dyer will
not repair/replace
your mailbox. Thank
you for your coopera-
tion. If you have any
questions, please call
the Public Works De-
partment at 865-
4222.

Operation S.O.S. is an organization that was born
out of a desire to rally around our service members.
Their primary mission is to show support and grati-
tude to our troops for their devoted service to our
country.
With the holiday season fast approaching, they are
asking for your support to assist them in sending
care packages to our troops overseas. Even though they send packages throughout the
year, Christmas is the one time where they strive to go the extra mile. To date they have
sent over 5,000 packages to our service members.
At this time they are asking for a donation of products (see list below) or a monetary
donation to aid in sending 600 care packages this year. Donations need to be in by
October 30th. The assembling of packages will be held at Wicker Park Social Center in
Highland on November 22th from 11:30am to 4:00pm. Their goal is to ship the packag-
es on November 24th and 25th to insure delivery before Christmas. Operation S.O.S. is
a 501C3 organization, therefore all donations are tax deductible.
