WP3 – BSR as a transport gateway area

• WP3 seminar on 1-2 February 2010 (Stockholm)

• Produced task 3.1 report (Yury A. Shcherbanin, EATU Center Consult, Moscow) for infrastructure investments in Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, China and Iran

• Procured consulting company for Task 3.3 (Tetraplan A/S, Copenhagen) to deliver transport scenarios for 2030 and lead the foresight process

• Launched foresight debates (Malmö, 16-17 March; Vilnius, 30 March; St.Petersburg, 29 April); two others rescheduled (Stockholm to 18 May and Bodö to 31 May)

• Detailed work plan till May 2011

• Cost sharing agreement in signing

Task 4.3 – Transport sustainability and green corridors

• Working group established with the first meeting held (15 December 2009, Gdansk)

• Draft of inception report on implications of the EU transport policy on the development of sustainable transport in the BSR in progress

• Signed written agreement between the Swedish Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications, TransBaltic, EWTC II and Scandria on joint green transport activities in the signing process

• TransBaltic as one of the officially acclaimed project in the EU green corridor policy area

Task 5.1 – Dry port development

• Overview of existing dry port initiatives (incl. North Sea projects) towards a benchmarking report

• Dry port seminar (Falköping, 14-15 April 2010), attended by container transport industry and port operators, to discuss implementation approach to dry ports in the project partner areas

• Start-up of dry port case studies (Lahti Region, Hamburg area, Västerbotten, Warmia-Mazury)

Task 5.2 – Empty container management

• Holland Container Innovations (HCI - a start-up company from Delft University of Technology) chosen as partner to put the foldable container into practice

• Literature review on empty container management

• Roll-up on foldable containers produced to promote the issue at various events

• Invitation process to invite relevant stakeholders in demo activities (leaflet developed)

Task 5.3 – Deployment of ICT toolbox

• Strict cooperation established with Task 5.5 (back-to-back meetings)

• Gathering of market data relating to transport services in selected corridors (Poland-Scandinavia and Poland-port of Hamburg

• Evaluation of existing ICT tools for delivery planning to recommend future possible improvements

• Analysis of freight decisions criteria taken into account by the stakeholders in their modal choices

Task 5.4 – Competence Management System in harbour

logistics

• Arranged workshop to discuss transfer, utilisation and adjustment of CMS between Hamburg and Estonian ports (28-29 January 2010, Tallinn)

• MACO presentation on competence profiles during EU Maritime Day in Tallinn on 20 May 2010

• Second workshop scheduled for 21 May 2010

• Web-based standardised platform for harbour logistics training soon to be tested by stakeholders

Task 5.5 – Rail transport solutions for N-S and E-W flows

• Strict cooperation established with Task 5.3 back-to-back meetings)

• Ongoing study of previous activities and reports about rail freight transport in the BSR

• Interviews with relevant stakeholders under preparation

• Intermediate report with preliminary conclusions on possibilities to increase competitiveness of rail freight transport to be presented by the end of milestone 2
