Cement Industry in Chile demandsmore than 300.000 tons of fossil
fuels and millions tons of virgin rawmaterials per year.
Each ton of cement produced, generates up to 1 ton of CO2.

� Nov 2008: The Government of Chile informs the Secretariat of the Basel Convention of its plan to develop draft technical guidelines on the co-processing of hazardous waste in cement kilns, based on the technical guidelines on incineration on land (D10).
� Dec 2008: The Secretariat replies welcoming the initiative and making suggestions on the process for this work.

� Draft Technical Guidelines developmentbased on BAT and LCA approach.
� Presentation and discussion at OpenEnded Working Group (OEGW) BaselConvention EGW (Geneva, May 2010)
