One of the most important events in Pakistan is Eid-Ul-Fitr or Eid-Al-Fitr. The three day celebration has no exact date, as it is to signify the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan (this year it was in September). ‘Fitr’ means to break and it symbolises the breaking of the fasting period and of all evil habits. Eid-Ul-Fitr is celebrated by nearly all Muslims in many ways. To begin, Muslim families donate money to the poor so they can join in and have a good meal on the day. The appreciated donation is known as “Sabagah Al-Fitr” (charity of fast-breaking). On the actual day of Eid, men wake up early and head to a mosque or outdoor area, where they pray Eid namaz (Eid prayer) and listen to a speech made by a religious leader. This prayer is special however, it still counts as one of the five prayers a Muslim does per day. After the prayers, people meet cousins, contact distant relatives, give gifts (especially to children) and eat delicious and authentic foods. Most Islamic countries have a three day public holiday for the event.

Find out about the most important festival/event/holiday in your chosen country. In which

month does it occur? How do people celebrate it? Why is it an

important occasion

The Task

his childhood and life in the unique country of Pakistan.

For my first question, how long did you live in Pakistan for?

Where exactly did you live? If you lived in multiple places the place you lived in for the longest.

What was it like there?

Were there any special events that take place in Sukker?

Are any other areas in Pakistan that you lived in?

What were some of the most significant differences between your home town and this area?

For the next few questions I am going to ask you to compare Australia and Pakistan in a certain area and I will ask you for your comments on it.

If you had to compare Australia to Pakistan culturally, what comments would you have to make?

What if I asked you to compare the weather in Australia to the weather in Pakistan?

How about the difference in the people around you in Pakistan and Australia?

Generally what would you say if you had to compare Pakistan to Australia?

What are some of your best memories in Pakistan or some of your most cherished moments there?

What are some of your least favourite memories or things you may not have enjoyed so much that happened in Pakistan?

Do you have any final comments about Pakistan and what it was like living there?

Ok, well I’d just like to thank you for your time and, for helping to create an image of Pakistan in listeners heads via this interview.
