ODDI , Building on mer success With Property Ladder back, we get the particulars on its host - and new mum - Sarah Beeny ~ ropertyLadder, the show that Ifollows the ups and downs of amateur developers, has been a huge success for Channel 4 and recently returned for its fourth series. Much of its success is down to the no-nonsense Sarah Beeny,who gives advice based on her own experiences as a successful property developer. Sarah, 32, recently became the proud mother of son Billy.She is married to artist Graham Swift and they split their time between homes in London and Yorkshire. Whendid your interestin propertystart? Probably from when I was a child, my father was an architect, plus my brother and I would makecamps- that might have a little to do with it. But, seriously, I always had to go and survey sites with my dad and hold the tape measure - I even had my own hammer so I could get really involved! Wouldyou consider yourself the pin-up of the property world? . Veil,it's very flattering. It's quite nice 'vorking in a male world because men are great! I think I possibly get away with a bit more, being female. 00 you prefer working with men? .fy mother died when I was quite oung, so I've always been used to being around men. But when Billywas born found myself thinking about my mum ::lOrethan ever. HOWdid your pregnancy affect work? . had a really trouble-free pregnancy, just a bit of tiredness, and I was working until six days before Billy arrived. " ~ " but it's business, isn't it? I mean people are more to the point when they are talking about work. I meet people and they say, 'Gosh, you're not as scary as I thoughtyou'd be.' Are you a fan of property shows? Do you know what, I have to say, I really don't watch too much telly and I don't really watch property shows. I've caught little snippets - it would be rude not to, really. I think Grand Designs [Channel 4] is interesting. How has life changed with your new-found fame? Not a lot actually. I'd say I've been spotted about 30 or 40 times. I don't think people really recognise me. You've got to be at least A, B or C list to be recognised. When you're down at M or N like I am, then I don't think that many people recognise you. What would you do if you had to change career? I really love what I do, and it's not really work - it's a bit like having a hobby. But if I had to change, I'd like to take over a farm, with an organic shop and a safari park. In fact, Jimmy's Farm [the BBC2 series about novice pig farmer Jimmy Doherty] was fantastic, really compulsive viewing. Maybe that's something I could do in the future. ~ \
