Elmhurst Ballet School demonstrates the versatility of an Ash & LacyAshzip standing seam roof. The Alaska grey finish of the 0.9mmaluminium standing seam panels provides a striking contrast to thetraditional brickwork employed on the rest of the 5 acre site in Edgbaston.The separate complex blocks boast different combinations of straight andtapered Ashzip sheets, with a 'crescent' shaped roof providing thecentrepiece, with overhangs to offer shelter to side stairwells. With 'movement' as the design inspiration, the Ashzip system and integralAshgrid spacer support system, were central to providing the flexibility toachieve the desired aesthetics and high performance required.

Spectrum

With a wide range of colours and finishes available in aluminium, stainless steel and copper, an

Ashzip roof can harmonise or provide dynamic contrast with virtually any design of building or

materials. The precision ribbed appearance emphasises contours and creates an

unmistakeably contemporary effect.

Curves

True freedom comes in Ashzip's ability to curve and flow in almost any architectural formation.

Curves can be convex or concave (or wave formed by combining both in one profile sheet).

Sheets can self-curve with tighter radii that can be mechanically smooth curved at the factory

or on site.

Tapering

Radial roofs are where the Ashzip concept comes into its own. Taper roll forming is perfect for

creating roofs with an uncompromisingly modern profile. The expertise and computer modelling

Weatherproofing

Ashzip is normally produced and installed as a single unbroken sheet length and with no

penetrative fixings it is virtually impervious to leakage. The seams are closed using a zipping

machine which runs up the rib and creates a weatherproof joint with no need for sealant. This

means a virtually maintenance free, totally watertight roof.

Insulation

Ashzip's unique full height halter bracket provides a faster and more flexible system for

achieving a continual insulation of the desired thickness with U-values ranging from 0.25 to 0.16

W/m2K and higher.

Acoustics

For buildings with special acoustic requirements such as sports and leisure halls, theatres or

industrial facilities, Ash & Lacy can provide the specialised expertise and laboratory tested

systems to control the acoustics through perforation whilst still maintaining structural integrity,

air-tightness, vapour and condensation control.

The new Sports Hall at St Bede's School in Cambridge, is topped with over 1,144m2 of Ashzip in a bright metallicsilver. The Ashzip was supplied in 35m lengths which were rolled and curved onsite using Ash & Lacy's mobile roll-forming and curving technology. The standing seamroof system at St Bede's School is an example of theAshzip 400 profile, specified with full-height halters(245mm) on 'top hats' with the halters above the acoustic quilt. The use of the halters as well as aperforated structural deck has enabled the acousticrequirements of the sports hall to be met.

Achieving compliance with the new Building Regulations and Standards involves a combination

The new focal point in the development of Coca ColaChampionship team Coventry City FC. The Alan HiggsCentre - an £8 million project funded by the Higgs Charity -is a multi-purpose development on a 125 hectare site. Ash & Lacy supplied over 5,000 square metres of Ashzip400. The self-curved roof, featuring the Ashgrid spacersupport system, was manufactured on site at eaves level,with sheets produced at lengths of up to 40 metres usingAsh & Lacy's own mobile manufacturing unit.

Rollforming

Ash & Lacy offer national and international coverage for onsite installation of Ashzip utilising our

own mobile rollforming units. Alternatively sheets can be produced at our factory for transport

by road. We can advise on the most appropriate method.

Flexibility

Ash & Lacy boast proven efficiency with on-site rollforming from our mobile rollformers. Sheets

can be rolled to long continuous unbroken lengths directly onto the roof at eaves or ground level.

On-site roll-curving enables the most impressive flowing roof lines.

Refurbishment

Ashzip combined with the innovative Ashjack structural frame system is the perfect solution for

flat roof problems. The existing new Ashjack subframe is installed over the top. Any number of

designs are feasible which, combined with the standing seam roof, can transform the

aesthetics of older buildings whilst providing a permanent watertight solution.

The new state of the art Celtic FC Training Academy inLennoxtown, Scotland, features 4000m2 of Ashzip instandard mill finish Aluminium. All panels were rolled on site, approximately 56m from ridge to eaves,producing a standing seam roof with no penetrations,maximising efficiency and longevity of the development.The 50 acre site with Lennox Castle as its backdrop,forms the new landmark for Celtic FC, as a multi-millionpound world-class training facility and sports academyand the base for Celtic's complete footballing operations.

Recycling

Ashzip materials are procured from recyclable sources and therefore a fully recyclable system

at the end of the building life. There is a growing emphasis on aluminium in our core products

which, after water, is the most recycled material on the planet.

Ash & Lacy have been pioneering ecological projects utilising the properties of Ashzip. A leading

example is Adnams Brewery Distribution Centre in Southwold - perhaps the most important

environmentally sustainable warehouse in the UK. Its 6,000 square metre green roof was in

conjunction with vapour permeable blocks on the walls.
