We spent our days here stocking up, repairing, shopping and preparing to haul out again. The pistol club had a sausage sizzle/raffle to fundraise for Variety with a $1,000 pearl up for grabs. Tania was saying all day that the pearl was hers. Well it certainly was she won it, Torah and Breanne were devastated. We did manage to sneak out to Gantheame Pt one afternoon for a swim. It was so beautiful seeing the racehorses run up and down in the water.

Episode 8

Day 122 to 124 – Sunday 26 July to Tuesday 28 July 2015

Travel: Banana Well to Broome (120km)

Today we went to Broome for three nights and we did some jobs. That night we went to crab

racing and I came third place.

And mum would like to add..... Back to Broome and somewhere different and cheaper. We stayed at the pistol club. It took a bit of getting used to the gun shots in the back ground - but it was a bit awesome. The people here were great, and we had the company of the Corkills and Gav and Julie. The money we saved, we splurged and went out for dinner at the seafood restaurant at the wharf (yummy – chilli prawns again). We also went to the crab races at Divers (and met up with Lou/Milton and the girls). You had to buy raffle ticket to enter the draw to get one of the 8 crabs that raced. When the race started we all went ballistic, Torah’s crab was so close to winning ($150), and but pipped at the finish line and came 3rd. What a great night. We spent our days here stocking up, repairing, shopping and preparing to haul out again. The pistol club had a sausage sizzle/raffle to fundraise for Variety with a $1,000 pearl up for grabs. Day 125 – Wednesday 29 July 2015

Travel: Broome to Pt Smith (140km)

We went to Port Smith and it was ok.

And mum would like to add.....We stopped at Port Smith for a looksy. It was a lovely caravan park, nice people, the beach was ok (they raved about it though) and the lagoon had potential. Been there, done that – wont do it again. The bugs there were nasty though, only 15 bites but they kept me up at night. Day 126 to 129 – Thursday 30 July 2015 to Sunday 2 August 2015

Travel: Pt Smith to Anna Plains Station (115km)

We stayed at Anna Plains Station and we went to the beach and found some

amazing shells while my dad was fishing. They also have a camel and thousands

of cows. Then we went for a muster and we helped.

And mum would like to add.....Wow, what an amazing place. I feel so very very lucky to have experienced Anna Plains Station. It is a working cattle station with about 25,000 cattle. There are only 12 sites and it isn’t advertised – word of mouth only – Thanks Lou/Milton. Our site overlooked the paddocks, with amazing sunsets, a camel (chewey) that would round up the cows. Each morning the procession of bulls would arrive and leave each evening. There were also 2 horses, Leo and Stevie, that Torah would hand feed each day. There was a small drive to the beach, which is part of 80 mile beach, and the shells here were absolutely amazing. Steve did a bit of fishing and Torah and I collected and played with shells. The beach was lovely and went for miles (*80), but no swimming, the sharks are everywhere – we even found a dehydrated shark in the sand. We talked our way into joining a couple (that knew the owner) into tagging along to watch the cattle drafting. It was amazing to see the jillaroos and jackaroos in action. Later that afternoon, they walked the cows and calves backed to their paddock – which was just stunning to watch (no photos allowed), and next thing we hear the owner on the UHF radio say, you are more than welcome to help keep these cows in line “Dont be shy”. So now we are part of the crew heading the cows back to the paddock. Steve’s car was the only patrol amongst the Toyota’s. I was squealing with delight – I couldn’t believe we were actually herding/mustering cattle in Steve’s car. It was an amazing once on a lifetime experience. There were also trucks/helicopters coming and going so something was always happening. The next day we watched some cows being pregnancy tested – Torah was fascinated – for a little while. There was also a hot tub there, made from an artesian bore – but it smelt quite metallic. We were also very fortunate that we were allowed to use the staff swimming pool. Then one night the owner put a BBQ at the staff kitchen (BYO) but it was great to mingle with everyone.

Day 130 to 132 – Saturday 3 August 2015 to Wednesday 5 August 2015

Travel: Anna Plains to Cape Keroudren (230 km)

Today we went to Cape Keraudren, it was beautiful and we saw turtles.

And mum would like to add.....What a lovely spot. At high tide the inlet was so blue and stunning with the rocks and mangroves. On low tide it vast mudflats. There was abundant animal life, with turtles galore – but no fish for Steve. On low tide we walked )or rather slid) across the mud flats to a lagoon and saw about 9 sea turtles – Steve even managed to rescue a stranded one. I would definitely recommend this place.

Day 133 to 139 – Thursday 6 August 2015 to Wednesday 12 August 2015

Travel: Cape Keroudren to Pardoo Station (57 km)

Today on our holiday we were fishing and I caught a 65 cm Queenie and I went swimming nearly

everyday. That night we ordered some chips and ate my Queenie. That station was called

Pardoo Station. We stayed there for 1 week.

And mum would like to add..... Pardoo station was nice (just nice, not spectacular). We had only planned on staying a few nights, but stuck around because you get comfy and lazy, the people were very nice, Torah was happy (there was a pool), and Gav and Julie were coming. So a few days turned into a week. We spent the mornings fishing, and the arvos by the pool. The fishing wasn’t too bad – very stoked for Torah, yes she caught a 65 cm Queenie with help from mum and dad – but it was hers. So the competition was on. Steve had yet to catch a fish bigger than Torah’s.

Day 140 – Thursday 13 August 2015

Travel: Pardoo Station to Port Hedland (120 km)

On our holiday we went to Port Hedland and did lots of shopping. Then we went to see the

massive ships get loaded ready to go overseas. Then went to a park and I went on this big tyre

swing. That night we went out for dinner and I had chicken snitzel, my mum had a pasta, and my

dad had a big chicken parma.

And mum would like to add..... Our stocks of everything were depleted. We basically spent the day shopping and running around. Not much to do in Port Hedland, but the Port was mesmerising to watch.

Day 141 to 143 – Friday 14 August 2015 to Sunday 16 August 2015

Travel: Port Hedland to Karajini National Park (345 km)

Today we went to Karajini, it had lots of gorges. One had a handrail and a spiderwalk, they

were very long walks and the water was cold. Karajini was good fun but it was exhausting.

And mum would like to add..... Love Love Love Karajini. We had high expectations as we loved it last night, but this time we really experienced it. We had 2 massive days with Gav and Julie. Day 1:

Day 144 – Monday 17 August 2015

Travel: Karajini National Park to Millstream Chichester National Park (276 km)

Today we swam in DeepReach Pool and it was cool, then we went to Python Pool and it was green

and slimy. Then we went to a homestead and it had old stuff.

And mum would like to add..... Glad we went to Milstream, good to tick it off, it was nice, but in

no hurry to go back. Steve and Torah had a swim at DeepReach pool, but the mozzies were

atrocious The camping facilities were pretty nice and the homestead was lovely. The drive out to

Python Pool was very scenic, and python pool itself was nice (pretty green – almost slimy), but

pretty – Torah and I braved this one for a quick swim. We had also bumped into Janet and John

(friends from the road) that we have now bumped into about 3-4 times.

Day 145 to 146 – Tuesday 18 August to Wednesday 19 August 2015

Travel: Millstream Chichester National Park to Point Samson (110 km)

On our holiday we went to Cossack an old town and the place we stayed at in Pt Samson had

water slides and piles of Iron Ore.

And mum would like to add.... Pt Samson was very pretty, It was a 1 day stop over for us, but we

met a lovely family from Melbourne, and you wouldn’t believe it – he is a foreman from a massive

commercial plumbing company in Melbourne. Some things are just meant to be. We explored the

surrounds: Cossack a lovely old town, Wickham a mining town and we managed to get up pretty

close to some of the mining equipment at the port. We spent the arvo at the caravan park as

they have 3 blow up waterslides – Torah loved it.

Day 147 to 150 – Thursday 20 August to Sunday 23 August 2015

Travel: Point Samson to Barradale (403 km)

Barradale to Bullara Station (111km)

We are at Bullara Station. It has 7 sheep, 100 horses, and 10,000 cows, and every night Damper

John makes damper and it is delicious.

And mum would like to add.... Love Love Love Bullara. John and Liz the camp hosts are amazing.

Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, and everything is kept super clean and tidy. The place is

very rustic (old and run down), but everyone is so down to earth and laid back. Damper and

drinks at 5.00 every night, we made sure we were set up close to the action. Torah had full run

of the place, tending to the horses and sheep. Steve did a bit of work here – so we stayed for

free too. Janet and John turned up so it was nice to see familiar faces. There were also plenty

of kids around. We will be back – sooner than we thought though.

Day 151 to 156 – Monday 24 August to Saturday 29 August 2015

Travel: Bullara to Cape Range National Park (163 km)

We went to Cape Range National Park, it was beautiful. We saw dolphins, stingrays, sharks,

whales and crabs. It was blue clear water and we went snorkelling. It was fun.

And mum would like to add.... This would have to be one of my favourite places in Australia. We were so lucky with the weather again too. This place is renowned for being windy (Kite surfers paradise), but when we were here 8 years ago, the wind was manageable – same again this time – we are so very lucky. Still not the same without Lee/a. We spent our time lazing around on stunning beaches, snorkelling, whale/dolphin watching. We met some great families. 6 nights just wasn’t enough. Steve caught a Golden Trevally (yummy), and we even saw sharks so close to

Page 13: Torah the Explorer Season 4torahtheexplorer.weebly.com/uploads/4/9/2/2/... · Travel: Point Samson to Barradale (403 km) Barradale to Bullara Station (111km) We are at Bullara Station

shore you could reach down and touch them. Our nights were spent ghost crab hunting/catching/releasing with plenty of squeals of laughter. Snorkelling we saw amazing colourful fish, starfish, sting rays, reef sharks, turtles. All from snorkelling from the beach. The beaches are some of the best in Australia, crystal clear blue waters..... Loved it.

Day 157 to 159 – Sunday 30 August to Tuesday 1 September 2015

Travel: Cape Range National Park to Bullara (163km)

We went back to Bullara and I had lots of fun playing with my friends and playing with the

animals.

And mum would like to add.... Back to Bullara – Steve has some more plumbing to do. With lots more kids to play with and more damper to be eaten - Sorry Trav but this damper rivals your damper, we settled right back in. The lambs escaped a few times so Torah had a few extra jobs – herding the lambs, and also started cleaning the accommodation. We also got pretty friendly with the staff there, to the extent that I jumped on the back on the motor bike with one of the guys as he had found a snake. So he rode one handed (holding the python as I refused to hold it) trying to find the kids, and we also scored a big cows head skeleton with massive horns – to add to the garden in Jamieson.

Stay tuned for the next adventures......

I’m missing you all

Love Torah

XOXO
