1920-French Chemist-Rene Maurice Gattefose; coined the wordAroma therpy; Practice of using essential oils fromplants flowers, rootsseeds etc
Last 10 years witnessed Aromatherapy flourishing, main focus onstrengthening defense system, organs ant their functions

 Steam distillation
 Enfleurage Enfleurage
 Solvent extraction
 Carbon dioxide super critical extraction
Analysis of the extract Essential oils are subjected to analysis by following techniques
 Gas chromatography cum Mass spectroscopy-GC-MS
 High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
GC-MS has analytical component and detection component
HPLC has both qualitative and quantative application
Chemical composition
Chemical composition of some representative prominent essential oils :
Lavender oil:
Eucalyptus Oil:
 Rose Oil
 Rosemary Oil
 Tea Tree Oil
Mechanism of action
Mechanismof action depends on method of application
Direct absorption into body when applied to the skin

system) generates signals are transmitted to olfactory bulb direct
connected to brain, response to the signal created in the brain can be in the
