  • Below is a Quick Guide showing and describing common settings to build a Survey Configuration in MAGNET Field data collection software to support usinga Topcon HiPer SR receiver as a rover within a surrounding Real Time GNSS Network.

    From the main menu, go to Configure >> Survey. Within the "GPS+ Configuration" section, tap the triple dot button to see a listing of existing configurations.

  • Tap the existing My Network RTK survey configuration template. Tap the Add button to have MAGNET Field software reference the settings within thistemplate and provide a cloned copy for you to customize.

    MAGNET Field Survey ConfigurationIt is common to customize the Configuration name from the template default. Change the configuration name from My RTK Copy to perhaps HiPer SRNetwork RTK for intuitive recall later. To support using a Topcon HiPer SR receiver within a hosting Real Time GNSS Network, ensure to declare aConfiguration Type of Network RTK (shown above).

  • Configure Rover ReceiverTo support using a Topcon HiPer SR receiver within a hosting Real Time GNSS Network, declare that Rover Manufacturer is Topcon.Checking the Post Processing box will result in MAGNET Field software presenting options to begin logging raw static file(s) in your Topcon HiPer SRreceiver during you survey. User preference and project specific.Within the "Configure: Rover Receiver" screen, choices are to connect to the HiPer SR receiver via a wireless Bluetooth (default) method or using a SerialCable (backup method).The "Receiver Model" corresponds to be HiPer SR.Elevation Mask defines a minimum angle above the horizon in degrees. From this minimum angle, the software will track and use all satellites above andreject any below this customizable horizon. By default, the software's Elevation Mask is set to be 13 degrees.Protocol. To supporting gaining access by sending User Name and Password credentials to the hosting Real Time GNSS Network server, declare a protocolof NTRIP (Networked Transport of RTCM via Internet Protocol).The "Antenna Type" field is automatically set to be HiPer SR to support the previous "Receiver Model" choice.Antenna Height. By default the initial rover antenna height of 2.000 meters (6.652 feet) is commonly set here within the software's global SurveyConfiguration. This rover antenna height can be changed during the survey at any time.

    Configure Modem ConnectionDesigned for smaller site surveys, the Topcon HiPer SR does not have an internal modem. Instead, the Topcon HiPer SR receiver uses an impressive andsimple LongLINK connection method during Real Time Kinematic (RTK) sessions.

  • However, since will will need an active internet connection to support working with a Topcon HiPer SR receiver inside of a hosting Real Time GNSS Network,we will select the remaining Modem Connect option of using the internal 3.5G celluar modem within the Controller (the Topcon Tesla field controller itself).

    Just add a SIM card and go!The Topcon Tesla field controller is available with an internal 3.5G GSM modem. It is common then, prior to working with MAGNET Field data collectionsoftware, to remove a battery from the Tesla field controller, insert a SIM card for the local cellular network, and task the Tesla's operating system toautomatically configure for you.With the internal SIM card automatically configured and actively on the internet, then launch MAGNET Field data collection software. Here in the software'sSurvey Configuration, we will declare that MAGNET Field will use an Existing Network Connection .

    192.168.1.1:8008After inputting an IP Address and Port Number, it is common to declare a recognizable name for easy recall later. With both IP Address, Port Number, andName input, tap the Add New button to have it added to your Address List.

    Configure NTRIP Login InformationYour NTRIP user identification and password are issued to you from your Real Time GNSS Network manager. Here, you can add what your NTRIPcredentials are for automatic login into your network.

    Split into two screens to support two buttons. Here within the "Configure Topo Survey" screen, users can customize the single button behavior when collectingtopo measurements.

  • settings declared here within the Survey Configuration will dictate how single tapping the buttons during data collection will behave.Settings can of course be changed from shot to shot later. However, it is common to use the default settings shown and customize to your field project'sneeds.

    Configure: Automatic Topographic SurveyWithin this settings screen, users can declare how often or at what customized distance a field measurement will automatically be recorded. Show above arecommon settings (within the global Survey Configuration) that can be changed at anytime later.

    Configure: Stakeout SettingsWithin the next screen, users can specify a Horizontal Distance Tolerance from which MAGNET Field software will graphically "zoom in". At this customizableradius, the software will center the "target" that you are being navigated to and then plot your relative position in real time. It is common to declare aHorizontal Distance Tolerance of 0.05 meter (or perhaps 0.2 foot) .The Reference Direction will provide an orientation for guidance instructions during stakeout (navigation) routines. It is common to declare an initial stakeoutreference direction of North where the top of your field controller is expected to be oriented in a "northerly" direction in order for resulting navigationinstructions to make sense. This setting too can be changed later from stakeout session to stakeout session.

    Configure: Stakeout SettingsIf the field project requires you to not only stakeout / be navigated to design points but to also set monumentation and take a measurement over the stakeoutpoint, then within the Configure: Stakeout Settings screen you can declare how this stored point will be collected.Exact same options from Survey Topo screen are available using two buttons of Precise and Quick single button behavior. Shown above are commonly usedsettings.

  • Configure: Stake and Store SettingsA continuation from previous screen, here you can specify behavior after a calculated or design point is navigated to (stakeout), set, and stored. For example,with the commonly used settings shown above, this will result in the suffix of, "_stk" automatically added to the point name of the Design Point beingnavigated to.An additional descriptive Note will also be added containing the actual Design Point that was being navigated to.

    Configure: Advanced SettingsSatellite System - specify whether GPS only or GPS + GLONASS satellites will be tracked and used within the rover receiver.RTK Position - two modes available: Extrapolation (default) or Matched Epoch (optional). Using the default RTK Position method of Extrapolation,MAGNET Field software will have the rover receiver "extrapolate" the base station's carrier phase measurements when computing current RTK positions.Track L2C Satellites - if supported within Option Authorization Files (OAF's) programmed into both the base (reference station) and the rover receiver,available L2C signals will be included into the rover's solution type. This option is checked on by default.Multipath Reduction - checking this option on will have the receiver's firmware look for, identify, and reject signals that took "multiple paths" to arrive at therover receiver's antenna (checked on by default).Cooperative Tracking - turned on, this option will result in the rover receiver actively tracking the satellites up above. Rather than just "listen" and hope tocatch a signal, this option will cause the receiver to anticipate where satellites "wil be" and reaquire after signal is lost. Due to dynamic job sites, network, etc.this option is checked off by default.Canopy Environment - used when the rover receiver is tasked with measuring within a "signal hostile" environment. Meaning, checking this option will havethe firmware within the rover receiver slow down and not accept any cycle slips (signal breaks) while computing it's position. Again, this advanced option willslow the rover down in it's attempts to solve ambiguities and achieve a Fixed solution type.Base Station Make - Common to set to "Automatic Detection". This will result in the manufacturer name of the hosting reference station being displayedwithin MAGNET Field data collection software.
