Google Earth is a tool that is widely used by millions of people in the world. It comes very handy if you want to visit places you probably never could in real life. Also, unsurprisingly, there are places that cannot be seen, that is the countries and the officials do not wish to be viewed by any peeking eye on the web. Some reasons for blocking the view of the places are pretty obvious to see. However, there are places for which reasons are unintelligible. Some conspicuously hidden places have been found and visited by Internet users, but they reported there was absolutely nothing to see there.Volkel Air Base, The NetherlandsThough official story is that is an ordinary base, many people think that this place is hiding a more sinister purpose. This base is shown as a pixelated space on screen. And the reason why that is so is that it has 22 US B61 thermonuclear bombs stored in its bunkers including a worrying nuclear device four times as powerful as the bombs used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Wikileaks has published a leaked file that confirmed the presence of nuclear warheads at the base in 2010, but it was never officially confirmed.Babylon, IraqGoogle Earth has completely transformed this ancient city on its map, making it into farmland when in reality this place has a lot of history written in it. The reason for this is unknown, but it is known that Saddam Hussein spent millions rebuilding it in order to strengthen Iraqi nationalism. By appealing to Iraqs glorious and rich history, he had hoped to stay at the top for a long time. He even personally inscribed messages into some of the 60 million bricks used in the rebuilding of Babylon, his beloved city.Severnaya ZemlyaSevernaya Zemlya is located in the Russian Arctic region. It is a large archipelago with an area of 14,000 square kilometers that is completely uninhabited. The area is blocked by crudely drawn white lines and is partly covered by a massive grey bar. Google is not among the first companies and people to leave the islands of the maps as despite being clearly visible from the European mainland its presence wasnt formally recorded until the early 20th century. So maybe it is a Russian nuclear bomb testing site, or maybe something else, we can only guess about the islands true nature.Baker Lake, NU, the Inuit nation in northern CanadaBaker Lake or Qamani'tuaq "where the river widens", "big lake joined by a river at both ends", is a small village in the Kivalliq Region, in Nunavut on mainland Canada. There is much hype surrounding this place. Some believe that the place is a secret site for HAARP system, others that it is something much more sinister. A man who identifies himself as "Dr. Boylan" believes that the blacked out area that is shown or rather hidden in the area and those found in several other locations are blocking the locations of extraterrestrial beacons. Or maybe the Inuit nation just did not want to be seen.North KoreaThis hermit country has been a subject of so many intrigues and speculations in the last couple of decades. One of the reasons it was not shown on Google Earth is the lack of maps, that is to say all the maps were outdated. Until a few years ago, the only marker was for the capital, Pyongyang the entire country existed in images but without highway markers or any other identifying details. Nowadays, however, a few people managed to give a detailed map of North Korea, making it once again a part of the world, at least on the map.Google Earth is a very powerful tool that allows us to visit places we probably couldnt. But it is not all seeing as some places are not shown. Usually there is an important reason why. But sometimes the reason is unknown and that gives place to speculations, including various conspiracy theories etc. Still, it is pretty accurate in what it does show, so it provides the best service it possibly can.
