DC LOCATOR

WHERE DO I GO?DC’s metro system can be complicated for the not everyday passenger. So why is it so hard to find your way around?

For this Tools project, I looked into the Washington DC trans-portation system to help improve the way we get from point A to point B. I developed a concept and a design that would help those using the DC metro transportation system to get around in an easier fashion.

PART 2: IDEA

IDEA

My idea is to create a system that helps those sometimes confused to where there are on the bus system, to get around without the stress. The DC Locator idea is to create a band of simple, colorful dots that light up when you approach your desti-nation. It is one line of rolling lights that indicate the upcoming stops leaving the past stops in dark. Not only will it light up, but it will also blink and call out the stop.

This new flashing light system will simplify the way we use DC’s transportation system.

INTEGRATED SYSTEM

The DC Locator, goes with you on your trav-els. Both at the bus stop and on the bus. This integrated system will guide you on your way.

The woman looks up to easily see where she is and is able to sit down and read with no worries.

PART 4: INTERFACE

INTERFACE/KISOSKThe DC locator Kisosk allows the passenger to prepare for his/her upcoming trip. The Dc Locator screen is as sim-ple as a touch. Just touch where you need to go and the screen will show you the time, when your bus arrives, and how many stops left until your destination.

The screen welcomes you and asks you to press the screen to continue.
