COMMUNICATINGOUR150THANNIVERSARY

The following points are given as a starting point for how you communicate about the anniversary. If you need to adapt any of these, please contact [email protected] for approval.

1. Logo and supporting statement:

If you wish to use the 150 logo but do not have room to explain it you should use the words ‘Celebrating our roots in 1865’ somewhere adjacent to the logo.

This statement should be set in our campaign font ‘Permanent Marker’. This font should only be used for this statement. This font can be downloaded for free from www.fontsquirrel.com

2. Short descriptor:

In 2015 we celebrate the history, achievements and future of Oxford Brookes University as we reach our 150th anniversary. At Brookes, our academic excellence is underpinned by a history of learning by doing. Our connections and our Oxford roots – starting out as the Oxford School of Art in 1865 – are fundamental to our students’ experiences and our successful future.

3. Long descriptor:

In 2015 we are celebrating our history, achievements and the future of Oxford Brookes University as we reach our 150th year.

Our academic excellence is underpinned by a history of learning by doing. Our connections and our Oxford roots – starting out as the Oxford School of Art in 1865 – are fundamental to our students’ experiences and our successful future.

The University takes its name from John Henry Brookes – the founding spirit of the institution. An advocate of connecting education and work, his ethos has been adopted by staff and students throughout the years and continues to underpin our vision today.

In on-going recognition of his contribution, our inspirational new building – the John Henry Brookes Building – has been named in his honour.

From borrowed rooms in the Taylor Institution in the heart of Oxford to a technology school, college, and polytechnic and then in 1992 a university, our history has been defined by our students achieving their potential and a commitment to seeing our graduates well prepared for fulfilling and valuable lives. We have more than 17,000 students, of which more than 3,000 are from outside the UK.

We’ve joined with like-minded institutions over the years, whose work with students and their communities has been characterised by a pioneering spirit.

We will continue to focus on enabling our graduates to enrich the communities they work in, all around the world. Join us in celebrating all that we have achieved.

HORIZONTAL COMPOSITIONS

STACKED COMPOSITIONS

THE150LOGO

The 150 logo is used alongside the Oxford Brookes University logo. This logo is available in four different compositions as shown.

The logo should be used in a single colour and is available in: Brookes pink, Brookes lime, Brookes charcoal, white and black. Only the white version may be used over an image, however, it must be clearly legible.

Pantone and CMYK references are given below:

Brookes pink - Pantone 226 or C2 M94 Y2 K0Brookes lime - Pantone 383 or C29 M3 Y99 K19Brookes charcoal - Pantone 432 or C69 M55 Y46 K13

This logo can be used in place of the brookes logo where the logoframe is not in use ie stationery and campaigns.

The stacked logo, where the elements are ‘stacked’ rather than side by side can also be used within our existing visual identity within a box.

THEEXCLUSIONZONEANDLEGIBILITY

You will need to make sure that clear space is left around all sides of the logo and that it is always clearly legible when placed over an image or textured background.

UPDATINGEXISTINGPRINTEDMATERIALS

Silver foil stickers can be purchased from BrookesPrint if you wish to ‘badge’ previously printed course leaflets that will be used during the two year anniversary period. Contact [email protected]

USINGTHE150BADGEONNEWMATERIALS

As an alternative to the 150 logo you can also print this sticker as a badge directly on to communications in pink, lime, charcoal or as foil block. This should be used at the supplied size of 40mm x 40mm. The badge can be placed within a coloured box on a cover, over an image and within a clear space within the logo frame. WEBSITE

The anniversary logo is to be used in the core website header between September 2014 and July 2016.

The anniversary logo is sized so that Oxford Brookes University is the same size as currently used.

The Brookes logo remains where it is now, with the ‘150’ afterwards. This allows the logo to still act as navigation back to the homepage. The 150 will be a separate link to the anniversary microsite.

This will be rolled out across Ektron sites by the creative services web team, and we will provide updated HTML for faculties to implement by September 2014 should they wish to.

The logo is to be used as supplied in the templates provided.
