    It was the first state to join after the 13 original

    colonies More than 34,000 Vermonters fought for the Union in the

    American Civil War, Almost 15% were killed or injured,more than any other state

    The first election in which women were allowed to votewas in 1880

    The first governor was Thomas Chittenden Two US presidents were from vermont: calvin coolidge

    and chester arthur

    SPORTS IN VERMONT 1 Basketball is the most popular sport in vermont. Ohter

    popular sports are ice hockey, skiing and soccer

    basketball: Vermont catamounts

    The university of vermont or in latin universitas viridis montis (uvm) is

    in burlington, vermont. their sports teams are all called the

    catamounts. any of all the different cats are its mascot. uvm are one

    of the only two schools in vermont with such unique mascots.

    Themens basketball team beat syracuse university in the first round

    of the 2005 ncaa (national collagiate athletic association) getting

    their first win in three consecutive trips to the event.

    coached by kevin sneddon the mens were in the 2009 mens froZen four.

    THEY ALSO QUALIFIED FOR THE NCAA tournament in 1996, 1997 and 2010.

    SPORTS IN VERMONT 2Baseball:

    after the 2009 season vermonts baseball was stopped along

    with softball as part of budget cuts.

    Skiing:

    uvm has won 6 national championships (80, 89, 90, 92, 94, 2012)

    Soccer:

    the mens soccer team qualified for the ncaa 2007 tournament

    beating dartmouth in the first round of on penaltys they then

    went to the East regional final and lost 2 1 to the rutgers

    There are 66 lakes in vermont here. is half of them (on the next page)

    (in a really small font). The three largest lakes in vermont in

    order according to amount of water are lake bomoseen, seymour

    lake and Memphremagog. The deepest lake in vermont is lake

    willoughby which is has a maximum depth of 304 feet (94 metres)
