Etch
Etch is a digitally manufactured collection inspired by the logic of pure mathematics. It includes a series of different sized lights, a shade, tower and candle holder.
Made by employing an industrial process used to produce electronic products, such as circuit boards. The detailed designs are first photo-etched on to brass sheets. Then all unexposed areas are dissolved with acid, creating intricate patterns cut into the metal.

Bulb
Bulb is a reaction to the phasing-out of the incandescent bulb and the unattractive aesthetic of most CFL replacements. It is a dimmable CFL light bulb that can be used without shade.
The shape and metallic finish of Bulb are designed to control the light source. This results in a satisfyingly bright beam in the reflector version, and an upward luminosity in the crown version. The quick-start T5 bulb is unique to Tom Dixon and features a standard thread that can be used with almost any light fitting.

Hard wearing combined with
real comfort
Cast
Cast is a simple construction. The cast iron legs are bolted to the seat and back, which are made from slabs of thick foam.
All parts fit into the seat, allowing it to be shipped in a small package. The cast iron gives this chair an unapologetic attitude of no-nonsense industrial chic.

Indestructible mechanical practicality
Roll
Roll Table p. 91
Roll is a series of hard-wearing tables specifically constructed to ease the workers’ burden. The rolling wheel on the cast iron base enables lone waiting staff to reconfigure tables with minimal assistance.
The robust bumper edge trim, extruded in rubber, allows tables to be grouped together and to withstand tough contract environments and the hard knocks of life.

Scoop
Scoop is designed to envelop the sitter in a comfortable shell and can be used as a dining or side chair. The seat is fully upholstered in black woven wool and sculpted with generous proportions to deliver maximum comfort.
The fluid form of Scoop is achieved by applying the upholstery to an injection moulded foam frame. A choice of copper or black wooden legs provide stable support.

Step is a series of concentric spot shades made from solid copper. The stepped form casts unusual shadows on to the surface below. Each shade is hand spun and highly polished to give a warm and burnished light.
The exterior and interior of both the designs are lacquered to prevent oxidisation and the exterior has a gloss white finish.

Flash is a series of three minimally designed occasional tables with a soft gunmetal mirrored surface.
The robust steel base and stem are brass plated to provide an unusual combination of ornate glamour and basic practicality.

Orb
Orb is an evolution of the classic glass light shade. It emits a filtered white light giving a flattering and atmospheric luminosity.
Made from three layers of cased opaque glass, instead of the typical single layer, Orb gives a higher quality light diffusion. The glowing sphere is complemented by a brass-anodised aluminium fitting in a satin finish.

Majestically oversized
knobs
Knobs
A series of unusually generous knobs, useful as wall-mounted clothes-hooks, towel pegs or decoration. The extra thick, vividly coloured Pressed Glass Knobs are manufactured in industrial plants more commonly used to make products such as headlamps or glass insulators.
The carved Marble Knobs use chunks of a Rajastani stone called Forest Brown Marble. The two-tone Aluminium Knobs have a brass-lacquered interior and black powder-coated exterior.

Wingback
Wingback Chair p. 129
Inspired by the 18th-century Wingback, the Wingback chair is handcrafted in Britain using techniques practised for over 250 years. It is a fully upholstered lounge chair with curved sides and a distinctive cantilevered back. Kiln-dried beech or birch is used to build the custom-made frames.
The timber is bored, dowelled and glued to give a super strong framework. Boar bristle is used as the primary stuffing. This cushions the coil springs and provides weight absorption. A cotton mixture is then layered on top to provide thick padding and comfort.

The mysterious lighting object

Void references the Olympic medals with three metallic finishes: brass, copper and polished stainless steel. Inspired by vacuum flasks, these mysterious lighting objects conceal a powerful halogen bulb that concentrates the light to create a soft directional beam.
Solid metal sheets are pressed, spun and braised to form a double-wall shade. They are hand polished to create a mirrored surface which is then lacquered to maintain a high gloss finish.

The Peg Chair owes something to Japanese architecture with its quietly pared down form. It pays homage to Rietveld with its distinct graphic silhouette and supremely functional shape.
This lightweight café chair has been designed for domestic and contract use. A robust stacking chair, made from turned wood, it comes in a variety of colour finishes, including signature Fluoro.

Peg Coat Stand is a totem that has circular discs instead of traditional hooks. There are eight discs in four different sizes which are fitted to the stand using wooden dowels.
The giant discs combat the issue of larger items such as overcoats and motorcycle helmets. The product is flat-packed allowing the customer to arrange the discs in any configuration they wish.

Jack

Jack, an award-winning symbol of its age, was created in 1994. Inspired by 1970s pop, it was designed to explore the use of plastic and prove that industrial manufacture is still possible in the UK.
Produced from polyethylene, Jack uses the industrial process of air rotation moulding, a technique more commonly associated with the manufacture of traffic cones or toys. Plastic polyethylene pellets are added into a five-part tool, rotated and heated to high temperatures to create a plastic wall of even thickness.

Offcut Stool – Natural p. 103
The Offcut Bench and Stool are constructed from waste generated by standard methods of wooden furniture manufacture. The rounded top makes clever use of these curved and irregular pieces of discarded wood (waney edges) creating a new product from what was considered rubbish.
Further design innovations include the use of wooden pegs as fixings, a method of construction that enables rapid assembly without the need for glue or screws. The Offcut Bench and Stool are flat-packed, making them easy to distribute, completing their credentials as entirely functional and supremely utilitarian products.

These Pressed Glass Lights are made in industrial plants more commonly used to manufacture architectural products including car head lamps or glass insulators. The Pressed Glass collection is created through a process not often associated with contemporary design.
The collection is made from compressing molten glass into a hollow core mould which is then annealed in a kiln to create a robust object. The production process does not allow for intervention and creates small variations such as tiny air bubbles within the finished product.

Rock makes use of one of the most primitive materials, the result of millions of years of geological compression. Made from Forest Brown Indian marble sourced from specialist quarries in Rajasthan, Rock’s infinite pattern variations expose the individual markings that make each piece unique.
Marble is a metamorphic rock formed when limestone is subjected to tremendous pressure over a long period of time. Its longevity, strength and durability make it one of art and design’s most important materials.

Copper is a rarely used material in lighting and furniture. One of the very first metals to be worked by man, copper naturally occurs as an uncompounded mineral.
Copper Shade is created by employing a technically advanced process of vacuum metallisation. A thin layer of pure metal is exploded on to the internal surface of a polycarbonate globe using an electrical charge. The result is a highly reflective surface.

The Screw Table is inspired by the function of a sculptor’s stand, the height of the base can be raised or lowered to suit individual situations and unusual chair heights.
Designed to be especially sturdy and resilient, the base is made from sand-cast iron completed by a solid marble top.

The Spot Tables have a heavyweight base that references the robust components used to build the bridges and engines of the Victorian Era. The surface of the Spot Tables is created by spraying particles of glass on to a cast iron surface and then firing the product at very high temperatures to create a vitreous enamel finish.
This finish is typically associated with science labs and cooking equipment. The result is an indestructible surface with an extraordinary depth of colour. The Lean Table Light Red is formed from sand-cast iron and finished with a vibrant glossy powder coat.

The Mirror Ball is inspired by the space helmet. The reflective mirrored surface takes on the characteristics of its surrounding area, the ultimate simplicity of its form has guaranteed this product super status.
The Mirror Ball is created by employing the technically advanced process of vacuum metallisation. A thin layer of pure metal is exploded on to the internal surface of a poly-carbonate globe using an electrical charge.

Inspired by the sculptural simplicity of brass cooking pots and traditional water vessels, the Beat Lights are made from hand-beaten brass by skilled craftsmen. The warm, golden appearance makes brass a much appreciated material in art as well as in decorative design.
The malleable qualities of brass allowed it to be worked by spinning and hand-beating to create a striking form with a tactile surface. A lacquer is applied to the interior surface and a black patina to the exterior to finish the product.

Slab is a collection of tables, chairs, stools and benches crafted from specially crowned solid oak. The range is chara-cterised by a deeply brushed and heavily lacquered surface.
Each component part is cut with a custom-made profiler to give the distinct Slab outline edge. The Bar Stool incorporates a lacquered cast iron ring to reinforce the base and add an industrial feel.
