At our school there are equal opportunities for students of different races, colours, religions and

with different educational needs. Escola Básica 2,3 da Lousã is an “Inclusive School”,

as since 1988 it has been working on a global project to integrate all the children with special needs. This year 75 students with special needs attend our school. There are also some foreign

students.

The Project “Pintar um Sorriso” (“To draw a Smile”) aims at helping foreign students and

pupils with learning difficulties. Foreign students attend sessions with teachers, so

that they improve their communicative skills in Portuguese.

They participate in several extra curricular activities together with

other students, in order to promote cultural diversity.

In the evening there are also some workshops addressed to

their parents.

There is a special course at our school, addressed to older students who are not motivated to attend the national curriculum lessons. It is a pre-professional

course on ironwork for 7th grade students.

At our school there is also a special program for students with autism spectrum disorders, based on the TEACCH model (Treatment and Education of Autistic and related

Communication-handicapped Children).

“Structured Teaching” methods are used by special education teachers, in order to enable these students to function as meaningfully and as independently as possible at school and in their community. This program is also supported by partnerships with local institutions.

We are in Class 9th A and we have been working on an eTwinning project called “Welcome to Europe” with Szkoła Podstawowa nr 9 Szkoła Podstawowa nr 9 (Dzierżoniów, Poland)(Dzierżoniów, Poland) together with other partner schools from The

United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, Romania and Lithuania. This is a great opportunity for us to know more about

these countries and cultures, to cooperate with students from other European schools and to improve our ICT skills. We can learn

together, according to the motto of the European Union “United in Diversity”.

Our class

On November 16th we celebrated “Tolerance Day” at our school. Students have made some works at the

extracurricular workshops, monitored by Ana Ribeiro.

At E.B. 2,3 da Lousã there was also an activity called

“Say NO to Bullying at School”
