Remarks of the Counselor:
The career counseling experience of this year was very enriching at Tolani College. It gave a
sense of satisfaction to guide about 163 students in 9 months. This year BAF, TYBCOM and
SYJC students showed good interest in taking career guidance.3 Ex-student came for the
career guidance session and 3 parents with their children visited for career guidance and one
9th standard student was referred by the principal for career guidance.
Below are a few observations-
➢ Students are enthusiastic about their careers.
➢ They are keen on knowing offbeat options too.
➢ Many students have started doing part time jobs for experience and exposure, this
reflected on their confidence.
➢ Teaching, Banking, Finance and Advertising are the most commonly sorted options.
➢ Many students were keen on doing part time jobs specially those studying B.COM.
➢ Many students who were doing CA with B.Com felt clueless when they failed in CPT.
➢ Due to exam, very less students came in the month of Nov’17.

ANNEXURE 9: BEST PRACTICES
Best Practice No. 1:

a. create a platform for students to interact with senior faculty members of the
respective courses and more importantly, the subject experts.
b. give an opportunity to faculty member for discussions related to the
curriculum and suggest changes in the syllabi
c. orient students from the University examinations point of view.
3. Challenges:
● Locational disadvantage of the College
● Minor challenges like mutually convenient date for the faculty members from
other colleges and the College
4. Practice:
● E-Banner and E-content is sent to all the colleges through e-mail and WhatsApp.
● Senior faculty members are invited as subject experts for guiding the students.
● Feedback is taken from the students and faculty members to understand the
effectiveness of the workshop.
5. Constraints/Limitation
● Time constraints
6. Evidence of Success
● The feedback obtained from the learners indicates that the workshop is useful for
preparation of examinations.
● Faculty members get an opportunity to network and share their inputs
7. Problems encountered
● Considering the main objective of the workshop, it is usually organised at the end
of the term. This is a major challenge as during this period faculty members are
involved in many other activities and examination related work.
Best Practice No.2:
1. Title: Involving students in research undertaken by faculty members
2. Goal: To develop research bent of mind among learners and create interest in
research.
128
3. Challenges:
● Most of the learners lack understanding of research
● Training learners for primary data collection
4. Practice:
● The faculty members identify learners who are interested in assisting them in
conducting research
● The faculty members train the learners for proper administration of the
questionnaire among the respondents
● The learners also assist in tabulation of data and preparation of charts
5. Constraints/ Limitation:
● As of now, learners’ involvement is restricted to assistance in collection of data
and tabulation.
● The data collection needs to be timed during vacation
6. Evidence of Success:
● Learners successfully completed the survey. These learners have developed an
inclination towards research and proactively participate in research convention
like Avishkar.
7. Problems encountered:
● Respondents were not very forthcoming and serious when approached by
learners.
