4.2. Computerization of administration and library:

Computerization of administration:

The administrative office uses an ERP package, College Management System for

automating admission process. Tally ERP is used for managing accounting and record

keeping. Sensys application is used for payroll generation. College Management

System has enabled the automation of Faculty Feedback. Apart from this, Electronic

token System is used by the College office to avoid long queues during admission.

The number of CCTV cameras on the campus has been scaled up from 33 to 43 to

ensure overall surveillance and enhance security.

Computerization of Library:

The College Library continues to use “SLIM 21” software for carrying out library

functions like acquisition, circulation, cataloging and serial control. The College

Library continues to use OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) facility which

helps in providing quick information and other services to the students and staff, has

reduced the waiting time as well as has led to easy data documentation. The Library

continues to subscribe to two e-databases like ProQuest, NLIST.

Criterion – V

5. Student Support and Progression

5.1. Contribution of IQAC in enhancing awareness about Student Support Services:

The IQAC suggested the use of digital platform including WhatsApp, for sharing

important notices with students, which has been implemented.

The College continues with the following practices which have been suggested by

IQAC:

Notices are sent to the classrooms to convey information,

Students are encouraged to check the website which is updated regularly (website

is currently under reconstruction),

For every programme and committees separate notice boards are maintained and

notices are displayed on the respective boards.

Student support services are mentioned in the prospectus.

Major changes are also incorporated in the prospectus.

Orientation sessions for the learners of the First Year of UG Programmes and

their parents are arranged for creating awareness.

The Annual College Magazine, “T-Tarang” is also used to provide information

about the activities conducted and achievements.

5.2. Efforts made by the institution for tracking the progression:

The College uses the following ways for tracking learner’s progression to higher

education:

Number of graduating students of the College who take admission to the post

graduate programmes offered by the College

WhatsApp groups that are formed are continued to get information about students’

progression after their graduation.

Number of students getting placements through the placement cell of the College

Number of transcripts or transfer certificates applied for by the graduates.

The alumni association maintains database of students who register with the

College

However, it is a challenge to keep track of all the graduating students over the years.

1. Students will benefit from sexual harassment/ cyber-crime workshop.

2. Many girls are being forced into marriage or forced to give up education due to their

orthodox families. These girls will benefit if the college could support them in securing

their education.

3. Anti-bullying workshop will be beneficial as many new bullying cases have come up.

4. Many students have come this term, rise seen in male numbers as well. This term has

seen rise in parent sessions as well. Parents are open to suggestions and apply them

effectively.

5. College will benefit with parent workshops as well.

6. Many kids are clueless about career, Counselor suggests doing internship or part-time to

increase real life knowledge.

Remarks of the Counselor:

The career counseling experience of this year was very enriching at Tolani College. It gave a

sense of satisfaction to guide about 163 students in 9 months. This year BAF, TYBCOM and

SYJC students showed good interest in taking career guidance.3 Ex-student came for the

career guidance session and 3 parents with their children visited for career guidance and one

9th standard student was referred by the principal for career guidance.

Below are a few observations-

➢ Students are enthusiastic about their careers.

➢ They are keen on knowing offbeat options too.

➢ Many students have started doing part time jobs for experience and exposure, this

reflected on their confidence.

➢ Teaching, Banking, Finance and Advertising are the most commonly sorted options.

➢ Many students were keen on doing part time jobs specially those studying B.COM.

➢ Many students who were doing CA with B.Com felt clueless when they failed in CPT.

➢ Due to exam, very less students came in the month of Nov’17.

ANNEXURE 9: BEST PRACTICES

Best Practice No. 1:

1. Title: Intercollegiate Workshop –Eureka

2. Goal: The aim of the workshop is to:

a. create a platform for students to interact with senior faculty members of the

respective courses and more importantly, the subject experts.

b. give an opportunity to faculty member for discussions related to the

curriculum and suggest changes in the syllabi

c. orient students from the University examinations point of view.

3. Challenges:

● Locational disadvantage of the College

● Minor challenges like mutually convenient date for the faculty members from

other colleges and the College

4. Practice:

● E-Banner and E-content is sent to all the colleges through e-mail and WhatsApp.

● Senior faculty members are invited as subject experts for guiding the students.

● Feedback is taken from the students and faculty members to understand the

effectiveness of the workshop.

5. Constraints/Limitation

● Time constraints

6. Evidence of Success

● The feedback obtained from the learners indicates that the workshop is useful for

preparation of examinations.

● Faculty members get an opportunity to network and share their inputs

7. Problems encountered

● Considering the main objective of the workshop, it is usually organised at the end

of the term. This is a major challenge as during this period faculty members are

involved in many other activities and examination related work.

Best Practice No.2:

1. Title: Involving students in research undertaken by faculty members

2. Goal: To develop research bent of mind among learners and create interest in

research.
