Learn and live in central Tokyo
Access
If you are planning on studying abroad, make sure to add Tokyo to your list.
You can enjoy the food, sight-seeing, and Japanese- yet international culture.
Also, there are many exchange students from all over the world studying in Tokyo.
Your stay in Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, could make your student life much more exciting and meaningful.
Students in the Faculty of Economics study at two
campuses in the greater Tokyo area; the Mita Campus and
the Hiyoshi Campus. It only takes 17 minutes to get to the
Mita Campus from Tokyo Station, and Hiyoshi Campus is
about 35 minutes away from the Mita Campus. Tokyo
Metro or JR Line, and city buses are available for
transportation.
Although it is said that commodity prices in Japan are unusually high, students can find ways to keep
their costs down, for example by taking advantage of the university’s facilities. There are several
cafeterias on the Hiyoshi and Mita campuses, which provide delicious and reasonable dishes. If you are
looking for a place to stay, don’t forget to check out the Keio University dormitories.
4 big city comparison
Despite the alleged high level of Tokyo’s commodity prices, compared to three major cities (New York, London, and
Singapore), Tokyo is quite a reasonable place for study abroad. There are numerous discount shops in Tokyo,
offering foods and daily necessities at low prices compared to supermarkets.

Lead the world in a new direc tion as a leader of tomorrow
Programme in Economics for Alliances, Research and Leadership(PEARL) is an
all-English four-year programme for studying economics in English offered by the
Faculty of Economics at Keio University. PEARL’s academic year starts in
September, and is designed to foster the global leaders of tomorrow.
The applicants’ academic ability is evaluated using internationally recognised tests
and qualifications including standard test scores (International Baccalaureate, SAT,
or ACT), and TOEFL iBT and/or IELTS scores regardless of an applicant’s native
language. There is no written entrance exam and no interview. Students who
satisfy the graduation requirements will be awarded a bachelor’s degree.
Environment to develop future generations of global leaders
Upon high school completion, Sciences Po –
Keio DD stood out most, as it was a rare
opportunity for students to get acquainted to
two disparate experiences in the East and West.
The best thing that happened in course of 4
years was learning how to un-learn the things I
have learnt in the past, and also giving up many
presumptions the society has drilled into me
back at home. Meeting and interacting with the
diverse student population in Sciences Po made
me realize the vast possibilities life offers and
rendered me culture awareness.

Class of AY 2017, Keio-Sciences Po Double Degree Programme
Jenell Yan Shan Lau
Overall, in four years in the double degree programme, I
was able to discover many topics, gain a theoretical
background in Economics and understand what I
aspire to personally and professionally.
The most rewarding experience was to meet people
from all over the world with so diverse backgrounds
and aspirations, both in Sciences Po and Keio. It was
also amazing to be a regular student in a Japanese
university, as it is a rare experience. This way, I was able
to meet regular Japanese students and have a deeper
cultural experience than if I had only been part of an
exchange program for a very limited amount of time.
An enriching human and academic experience

I wanted to study abroad outside Singapore, as I
was interested in broadening my perspectives. The
Double Degree Programme indeed offers a unique
exposure, and I am glad that I was able to benefit
from this opportunity.
The entire experience was rewarding! But I would
say that the best part was my fellow students in
the programme: the small-size of the class and the
fact that you’re spending approximately 4 years
together with them means that you would definitely
build long-lasting relationships with them that will
endure even after graduation.
Approach the programme with an open mind !
An academically and culturally rewarding experience

Keio students study three years at Keio, then two years at
a partner university abroad. When students meet all the
graduation requirements of both universities, they will be
awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Keio at the
end of their fourth year, and a master’s degree at the end
of their fifth year in the programme from the partner
university.
The Faculty of Economics puts effort into providing
student exchange programmes. Students in the
Faculty of Economics can choose a region, a
university and duration from a variety of options.
Credits earned at the host university abroad may be
counted towards credits at Keio, which allows
students studying abroad to graduate in four years.
Five Year Bachelor/Master’s Programme
Student Exchange Programme(Faculty-wide)
Students from both universities taking part in this programme will study together
at two campuses in two different countries and will be awarded two Bachelor of
Arts degrees upon satisfying the graduation requirements of both institutions.

The Faculty of Economics at Keio is one of Japan’s leading
economics departments, and traces its history back to 1890,
when Keio became the first Japanese institute of higher learning
to establish a department dedicated for the theoretical and
empirical investigation of economic issues. Since then, the study
of economics has been pursued here in a liberal, open-minded
atmosphere, with the faculty committed to education and
research of the highest caliber. Keio Economics alumni hold
positions of leadership in politics, business, and academia,
heading or serving on the boards of hundreds of publicly listed
companies, and many alumni are active at the highest levels of
public service and government.
Since its foundation Keio University has stressed the importance of
economics as a discipline indispensable for understanding modern
society. Indeed, Keio is renowned for its economics education among
others and continues to train people to be global leaders in various fields.
Keio’s founder Yukichi Fukuzawa was extremely interested in economic
science, with his firm conviction that economic phenomena played
significant roles in social change. The Faculty of Economics at Keio has
inherited his belief that a deep understanding of the economy contributes
to the independence of individuals and the nation.
Learning economics in the present age of rapid globalization directly links
with forging an ability to think about society from an international
perspective. To facilitate this ability, the Faculty of Economics aims to
teach students how to transmit their ideas and debate on the global stage
armed with a comprehensive knowledge of economics through
faculty-based student exchange programs, double degree programs with
Sciences Po (France) and Bocconi University (Italy), and the PEARL
Programme, a four-year integrated degree program in English.
Additionally, our curriculum centers around seminars and is supported by
the pillars of small-group research projects and the PCP programme in
English for third- and fourth-year students.
We look forward to meeting you at our faculty on Keio’s Hiyoshi and Mita
Campuses.
