Third Sunday of Lent March 24, 2019

From the Pastor

Dcn. Abel CortesDcn. Larry LucidoDcn. Bob Marrinan

Dcn. Brian MitchellDcn. Peter Raad

My Dear Parishioners,

On this Third Sunday of Lent, as we continue to keep the perspective of our

journey toward our heavenly home, we are reminded not to put off till tomorrow

what is important today. The parable of the fig tree reminds us that God is

patient with us, but that we must not loiter concerning our conversion. We are

to continually work out our salvation, approaching God each day as He calls us to

Him. Today, Holy Mother the Church solemnly celebrates the Scrutinies with those

in Christian Initiation who seek entry into the Church. The Scrutinies are “rites

for self-searching and repentance” that help to “heal all that is weak, defective, or

sinful in the hearts of the elect,” as well as “to bring out, then strengthen all that is

upright, strong, and good.” (from Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults). We could

all use a little “scrutiny” in our own lives in order to guard against temptation and

get out from under the power of evil that oftentimes has a subtle hold on us.

Prayer, fasting and almsgiving help in this effort. But let us not stop there! If we

find something wrong, let us choose something right and get back on track! Let us

choose Christ who is the source of that “living water” that leads to eternal life. And

then, let us share this discovery in faith with one another.

Sincerely yours in Christ,Fr. Guadagnoli

Guadagnoli
