Tobacco is still the leading cause of preventable death in the US and in Colorado
• In Colorado, nearly 4,390 deaths each year due to tobacco use.*
• Smoking causes more deaths than HIV, illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders COMBINED.†

• CDPHE has a contract with FDA Center for Tobacco Products
• Enforce the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act
• CDPHE subcontracts with 6 local health agencies to conduct compliance checks (Denver, Jefferson, El Paso, Pueblo, Weld & Mesa)
• To date conducted approximately 6,500 inspections
• Average violation rate of 10.5%
