Toastmasters – The World Awaitsby Paul Ellis DTM

Its seems like only yesterday that I joined Toastmasters, and yet its over 25 years ago. Throughout the years, I have gainedso much from the most effective communication and leadershipprogram in the world – and had fun along the way.

Toastmasters has brought me places. I have attendedconferences and competed in competitions in Ireland, UK and theUSA. To achieve so much from my membership, to meet so manypeople, and to gain so many friends is all down to this greatorganisation that is Toastmasters.

Toastmasters also provides a challenge at every clubmeeting – to develop through speechmaking and to hone listeningskills through evaluations and topics.

The fun continues and, as I set into another year of“Toasting”, I look forward to all the new challenges Toastmasterswill bring. When you join Lucan Toastmasters, the world awaits.Follow the program and experience the trip of a lifetime.

Table Topics Session:This section of the meeting, conducted by theTable Topics Master, provides you with theopportunity to practice thinking and speakingquickly. The Topics Master announces a topicand calls on members, one at a time, to giveimpromptu 1 to 2 minute talks on the topic. Youlearn how to present your thoughts in a clear, organised manner with a minimum ofpreparation.

Being Toastmaster for the night:

The main duty of the Toastmaster is to act as agenial host and to organise and conduct theentire meeting. A different member of the clubtakes on the role at each meeting.

What is Leadership?“But just what do we mean by 'leadership?' It would appear to be the capacity to look ahead, think ahead, plan ahead, and then influenceother people to go ahead on the plan”

Ralph C. Smedley, founder Toastmasters International
