Important!

Toad includes significant enhancements to Automation that affect attributes in the actual automation script. If you open an automation script from a previous version, such as Toad for Data Analysts 2.6, a message informs you that the script will be upgraded so it will work in the current version of Toad.

Caution: If you upgrade this script, it will no longer be compatible with previous versions of Toad. However, a backup copy of your script will be saved in the Automation\BAK folder in the Application Data Directory under Help | About.

Script Settings

• You can now select whether the entire script stops or continues if an error occurs in any activity.

• You can set whether the script and all its activities use relative or absolute paths. This is useful if you want to share your automation scripts with colleagues, want to place them on a shared network folder, or use them with version control.

Toad for Data Analysts 2.7 8 New in This Release

You can also embed the actual SQL if you select SQL files in the Embed Input Files field. This also makes it easier to share the script with colleagues.

Database Activities

• For the Select to File, Execute Script, and Select to Editor with Results database activities, you can now manually enter SQL

• Import and Export activities no longer require a connection.

• You can now export to an existing Excel Macro Enabled File (.xlsm) using the Export Activity.

Toad for Data Analysts 2.7 9 New in This Release

If macros are enabled, you can select which ones to execute before and after the export.

In this example, the Excel file looks as follows:

• If Verbose logging is selected in Script Settings, you can now view the progress of the import or export in real-time in the Output window.

Toad for Data Analysts 2.7 10 New in This Release

File Activities

• A new Run Automation Script activity lets you run another automation script (.tas file) in your current automation script.

• You can now use a wildcard to select multiple files in the same directory to copy (Copy File) or delete (Delete File).

• You can now add multiple items to the Find and Replace activity.

Toad for Data Analysts 2.7 11 New in This Release

• You can use HTML as the body of your email when using the Send Email activity. To do so, use the Toad Report activity and select HTML as the output format type. You can then select that HTML file as the body for the email.

• If you have an Import Wizard activity, and specify a file to save unimported rows to a discard file on the Save Settings as Template page, you can add the results of the discard file as an attachment to the Send Email activity.

• The FTP activity includes the following enhancements:

• You can use conditions to check if the local or remote directory or file exists. If you set a condition, the FTP activity only runs if the conditions you specify are met. For example, you would select RemoteFileExists if a vendor places a file on the FTP site each week that contains a mailing list that you need to import into a table, and create a report from.

Toad for Data Analysts 2.7 12 New in This Release

• You can select whether to download, upload, or move files based on a date or file name in the options page that opens from the Options field.

System Activities

• A new Pause activity stops an activity for a set number of seconds before continuing. This is useful if you are using parallel activities and need to wait a few seconds for the results of one branch to for a record to populate while the other branch is waiting for record to export data.

• You can now add multiple variables to the Set Variable activity.

Toad for Data Analysts 2.7 13 New in This Release

If you do not want to enter a value in this window, you can also enter a SQL statement to use as the variable. If you enter a statement, the value from the first row and column returned in the query is used as the variable value. This is useful if you need a variable with a date.

• The Run Program activity includes the following enhancements:

• Applications are now opened as minimimized.

• The Arguments field now supports variables.

Note: You must enclose variables with a # sign (for example, #sleep#).

• The Arguments field also supports running macros in Access databases. If you want to run a macro in Access, enter databasename /x macroname in this field. For example, if you have a macro that beeps when run in your Northwind database, you would enter Northwind 2007.accdb /x beep.

General

• When executing a query in the Editor or Query Builder, you can now pin a result set tab so it is not overwritten by a subsequent query. This is helpful when there are a few lookups that you want to remain active.

• The Pivot & Chart tab in the Editor and Query Builder now uses data from the result set that was last executed.

• (ODBC) Multiple named parameters are now supported.

• (Oracle) If a database error occurs when executing a query, you can now click a link in the error message dialog to view more information.

Query Builder

• When specifying date ranges in a Where condition, the following enhancements are available:

o You can now modify a pre-defined calendar, including quarters, periods, etc., or can create a custom calendar.

Toad for Data Analysts 2.7 16 New in This Release

o You can click the date range link in the Query tab of the Query Builder to open a window that displays the actual syntax, and copy that syntax to use in other queries.

• You can now add a Group By clause to all selected columns in each table/view, by right-clicking the Diagram pane and selecting Add Group By. An indicator displays to the right of each selected column.

• (Oracle, SQL Server, and DB2) After executing a query using the Create Table As Statement option, the new table now displays in the Object Explorer.

Editor

• Toad has implemented a large script mode to improve performance when opening files larger than 2 MB. By default, when you open a large file, some features such as word wrap, syntax highlighting, and the Code Navigator are disabled in the Editor. When a large script loads, a message indicates that you are in large script mode in the right margin of the Editor. You can disable large script mode by clearing the option in Tools | Options | Editor | General.

Toad for Data Analysts 2.7 17 New in This Release

• You can now right-click the Editor window to execute the SQL statement.

• Code Completion includes the following enhancements:

• Performance has been improved.

• You can now multi-select some objects in the code completion list. If an object can be multi-selected, a check box displays next to it. You can then select the checkbox or press CTRL+SPACE to select the object.

• For objects such as schemas and databases, you can now expand these objects to see other items that are associated with them from code completion. You can view these items by clicking the + sign or by pressing CTRL+RIGHT.

• You can use the new toolbar at the bottom of the code completion list to change the following code completion options (in order): Apply filter to editor, Include system objects, Merge secondary items.

Toad for Data Analysts 2.7 18 New in This Release

• You can use the resize grip in the lower-right corner to resize the code completion drop-down list. The new size is also remembered between Toad sessions.

• Code items no longer fetch their parameter information when the list of code completion items is generated. That information is now fetched when it is needed, which leads to greatly improved performance. We also generate more detailed comments on code completion for these, including data type, direction, and parameter comments.

• Code completion no longer includes all the prefixing elements of objects in the code completion drop-down list, which leaves more space for the relevant part of the name.

• When you select several items in a Where clause, code completion now combines them correctly into a code snippet.

• The code completion drop-down list now disappears if you click anywhere outside the drop-down control. Also, if you move the caret in the editor outside of where it could form a valid drop-down entry it also disappears (for example, if you move to the left of the insertion point).

Toad for Data Analysts 2.7 19 New in This Release

• Code completion now indicates which columns are primary keys.

• Columns now display for table valued functions.

• Parameter hints now display when inserting code through code completion.

The parameter hint contains a description of the parameters with the parameter currently being edited displaying in bold. Below that is a description of the code if it exists, and on the last line a description of the currently focused parameter displays.

• Code Complete now recognizes UNICODE data types for INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE expansions.

• You can now select a date using a calendar in the Bind Variables window.

• The bind variable window now uses the value from the last time you executed the statement.

• Group execute includes the following enhancements:

• Faster completion because execution is now performed in parallel.

Toad for Data Analysts 2.7 20 New in This Release

• You can now run group execute against individual databases.

• Any snippets saved to the Shared Snippets Folder specified in Tools | Options | Environment | Network Share are now automatically loaded in the window to improve collaboration.
