Heathrow Airport:Pledges for local residents

Airport makes pledges to local residents as expansion decision looms

In his keynote address at the 2016 Responsible Business Summit, Heathrow CEO, John Holland-Kaye, announced five new pledges to the airport’s local residents promising to deliver economic benefits for them with expansion and being a better neighbour with or without expansion.

The pledges come as local resident group Chiswick Against the Third Runway (CHATR), continue their fight against Heathrow expansion plans (see page 4).

The five pledges are designed to highlight work already underway and also point to the airport’s ambitions in the future if it is allowed to expand.

What Heathrow say its five pledges are:

1. Help our communities prosper by providing up to 40,000 jobs, training opportunities and careers to benefit local families with expansion.

Through the current work of the Heathrow Academy, which last year helped over 500 local unemployed people secure employment at the airport; and in the future, through our Skills Taskforce, we will address our local skills shortage, and ensure that we provide careers, not just jobs.

2. Be a good neighbour meeting tough environmental and noise limits and air quality rules, enforced by new independent regulators.

By building on our record in finding

new technologies to reduce the impact of our operations, like using steeper approaches, and banning the noisiest classification of aircraft, which has contributing to a 14% reduction in areas affected by noise (as measured using 55LDen) over the last 9 years. We will continue our investments in tools to reduce emissions in aircraft at the gates and while they are taxiing, and in electric vehicles and chargers.

3. Tackle local traffic congestion by investing in local transport projects that put Heathrow at the centre of a new integrated bus and rail transport system.

Expanding on the schemes we already fund, including 24 hour bus services recently established for communities west to the airport and hosting the largest single-site car sharing scheme in the world.

4. Work together with local businesses, helping them make best use of the national asset on their doorstep and investing in the local economy.

Learning from the success of our annual Heathrow Business Summits, which provide opportunities for local SMEs to meet with our Tier one suppliers, we will build regional procurement hubs to ensure the benefits of Heathrow expansion are felt locally.

5. Build a lasting legacy for future generations, in partnership with local schools, colleges and universities.

Expanding our current STEM skills

programmes for local primary and secondary schools and ensuring these programmes also tackle issues around social mobility and diversity for local youth.

Heathrow CEO, John Holland- Kaye, said:

“If we are all to benefit from a stronger UK economy, Heathrow expansion is the right choice. But to expand, we need our local people to trust us to deliver the promises we

make. We are already taking steps to deliver these pledges and we are happy to be held to them. They point to a more ambitious vision for the airport – one which sees Heathrow as a better neighbour at the centre of thriving West London and Thames Valley.”

Hamish Pringle of CHATR said, “These pledges aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. The litany of Heathrow’s broken promises over the period 1993 – 2015 runs to ten pages of A4 paper: http://www.colnbrookcommunityassociation.org.uk/broken-promises-over-t h e - e x p a n s i o n - o f - h e a t h r o w -airport-1993-2015/ Why should anyone believe what they say now in their desperate bonus-driven attempt to win a 3rd runway from which their foreign owners will profit while polluting us?”

Last month, Heathrow cleared the way for the Government to support its expansion proposal by meeting and, in most cases, exceeding the conditions set out in the Airports Commission’s recommendations for Heathrow expansion.

A British citizen who US prosecutors said plotted to carry out a suicide bomb attack at Heathrow Airport has been jailed for 40 years in the US.

Minh Quang Pham, 33, was sentenced in New York for supporting the terror group al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in 2011.

In January, Pham admitted three counts of terrorist-related activity based on his support for the group.

He denied he intended to carry out his plot and no attack ever occurred.

Pham, a former Vietnamese national who had lived in London, was first arrested in the UK in June 2012 and was extradited to the US in February 2015.

Scotland Yard said its counter-terrorism command provided key evidence that helped shape the case against Pham, also known as Amin, which led to his prosecution.

He pleaded guilty to one count of providing material support to AQAP, one count of conspiring to receive military training from AQAP and one count of possessing and using a machine gun in furtherance

and well-attended festivals, attracting a stellar line-up of adult and children’s authors. This year’s programme is no exception; more than 50 writers will be speaking on a wide range of topics, including fiction, history, politics, food, crime, memoir, and biography. The programme runs over five days at venues including Chiswick Library, The Tabard Theatre and the beautiful setting of Chiswick House and Gardens, where Queen Victoria held a Royal Garden Party in the 1870s with her son, the Prince of Wales. That will be the venue for the opening event with Daisy Goodwin and AN Wilson on the evening of Thursday September 15th. This year’s programme is the first to be compiled by Chiswick’s new author programme director, Jo James. She said: “I’m really excited about this year’s line up so far; we’ve got a wonderful mix of best-selling authors and fresh talent , plus lots of fun, family events.” Now in its eighth year, the Chiswick Book Festival is a non-profit making community event. It has raised over £50,000 for St Michael & All Angels Church, which hosts the Festival, and its chosen

The Festival has paid for the recording of more than half a dozen Talking Books, including Parade’s End by Ford Maddox Ford and others by previous CBF speakers Claire Tomalin, Rosamund Lupton and Andy McNab. The most recent are Mary Berry’s Absolute Favourites, Helen Keller’s The Story of My Life, and Widows, by Lynda La Plante.•InterAct Stroke Support: the Festival has helped to fund its work at Charing Cross Hospital, where professional actors read to stroke patients, contributing some two months of reading each year. •Doorstep Library, which brings books and the magic of reading directly to the homes of children in some of London’s most disadvantaged areas. Its work improves not just reading skills, but confidence, academic performance and long-term employment prospects. The on-site Festival bookshop will be run by Waterstones Chiswick.

of crimes of violence.

Prosecutors said Pham was directed by al-Qaeda leader Anwar Al-Awlaki to detonate explosives in Heathrow’s

arrivals area after spending several months in Yemen being trained by him.

District Judge Alison Nathan said Pham deserved an “exceptionally severe sentence” after he became a trusted asset for the terror group.

Pham had worked as a graphic artist on the group’s magazine, Inspire, that was said to be used by the Boston marathon bombers to learn how to make bombs.

During the hearing Pham said he had made a “terrible mistake” that he regretted and sent a letter to the judge to say he renounced all acts of terrorism and extremist ideology.

Minh Quang Pham was arrested at Heathrow in July 2011

The word ‘existential’ is not used lightly. Bedford Park and many other neighbouring communities face a threat to the quality of life it has known and enjoyed for decades. If the Government decides in favour of a 3rd runway at Heathrow, then there will be noisy

polluting motorways in the skies right above us.The Government is under enormous pressure to make a decision between the three options on the table: a 3rd runway at Heathrow, an elongated North runway as proposed by Heathrow Hub, or a second runway at Gatwick. If recent press reports are to be believed the verdict could be delivered soon after the EU Referendum on 23rd June.

This means that these 50th anniversary Green Days on Saturday and Sunday 11th and 12th June, could be the last ones at which the local community can voice its opposition and influence the Government’s decision.

On its 50th birthday, the Bedford Park Festival faces an existential threat. Heathrow Airport, having just celebrated its 70th on 31st May, could be celebrating again soon if it’s awarded the right to build a 3rd runway.

to sign ‘protest postcards’. These will be delivered to the Prime Minister and demonstrate the strength of feeling locally. Even though the signatories may only receive a ‘form letter’ from the Department for Transport in acknowledgment, we know that every personal protest counts. We believe there are seven hurdles which Heathrow can never jump in attempting to win their 3rd runway and we must hold the Government to account if Heathrow bluff, bluster, and attempt to bend the rules.

Each of these hurdles has been explored in detail in previous articles for The Chiswick Herald. For those interested in understanding how profound the impact of a 3rd runway at Heathrow would be, these articles can be found at http://chiswickherald.co.uk/chiswick-herald-159.htmPlease come to Green Days this Saturday and Sunday 11th and 12th June to celebrate the Bedford Park Festival’s really happy 50th birthday http://www.bedfordparkfestival.org/s/10/green-days. Local council first in London to halt use of potentially harmful sprays

Street drinkers reminded about controlled drinking zones

Brentford man guilty of aggravated burglary linked to Tooting murderTwo men have been convicted for their roles in a violent burglary that led to the death of 75-year-old Peter Lee in Tooting last year.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is the first council in London to halt the use of potentially harmful sprays in parks and open spaces. The borough is pioneering trials of chemical-free weed killers. The scrapping of controversial glyphosate-based weedkillers, which were used by council contractors, is a key part of H&F’s ambition to protect residents’ health and become the greenest local authority in the country. The World Health Organisation recently branded a glyphosate-based weedkiller “probably carcinogenic to humans”, while environmental campaigners have been calling for an end to their use due to their impact on

As the summer approaches, street drinkers are being warned that their booze could be confiscated if they are found to be causing a nuisance. In 2013, Hounslow Council asked residents whether they wanted the borough to be designated as a controlled drinking zone (CDZ). A CDZ is designed to tackle anti-social behaviour arising from public drinking, particularly when it is causing a nuisance or annoyance to others. When the council asked residents for their views on the CDZ, an overwhelming 91 per cent of respondents supported this action, with 90 per cent also saying they had witnessed alcohol-related

Jason Lewin, 34 (16.12.81) of Glenthorpe Road, Morden and his half brother Stewart Palmer, 29 (20.09.86) of Kew Bridge Road, Brentford were found guilty on Wednesday, 8 June, of aggravated burglary with intent to cause GBH following a trial at the Old Bailey. The court heard how a third brother, Jonathan Palmer, had driven the car that struck and killed Mr Lee. anti-social behaviour which ranged from intimidating behaviour, littering, noise and public urination. A CDZ allows police officers and police community support officers (PCSOs) to ask people to stop drinking and hand over their alcohol. Refusal can lead to a fine of up to £500 or, in extreme cases, face arrest. Hounslow’s CDZ covers the whole borough and includes all public spaces, town centres and parks. Councillor Sue Sampson, Hounslow’s Cabinet Member for Community Protection, Hounslow Council, said: “The CDZ isn’t an outright ban on drinking in public but

This means looking for alternatives that protect the environment, do not put our residents in danger, but also allow us to carry on tackling the scourge of Japanese knotweed that can blight communities.”Campaign organisation, Pesticide Action Network helps local authorities make the change to chemical-free herbicides.PAN UK Director, Keith Tyrell, said: “We warmly welcome H&F’s decisive

This summer we’re taking a tougher approach to ensure that people don’t feel harassed or intimidated by unacceptable alcohol-induced behaviour. “Our message is simple; if you do drink in public, do so responsibly or face the consequences.” Council-funded police officers will be patrolling known public drinking

The council has instructed them to stop using these herbicides.

Sergeant Neil Witcombe, from London Borough of Hounslow police team, said: “Summer is a wonderful time for people to come together and spend time outdoors. “Often this involves people having a drink. All we ask is that people stay safe and have fun. If you’re approached by police officers or PCSOs about your drinking it is because we feel this might not be the case. “We hope people understand that we are not doing it to ruin your day but need to ensure that everyone stays safe and enjoys themselves.”

Man pleads guilty to Heathrow car scamA man who ran an airport parking business has pleaded guilty to a scam where he used his customer’s vehicles for personal use.

Dedicated volunteers who have worked for three decades to save and protect Gunnersbury Triangle, a London Wildlife Trust nature reserve in Chiswick, scooped a top prize at the London RE:LEAF Tree and Woodland Awards on Thursday 26th May.

The Gunnersbury Triangle Steering Group consists of several volunteers who have played a critical role in the Chiswick nature reserve’s management since 1985, when the Trust took on its management. Four of these volunteers were part of the landmark campaign that led to a planning inquiry decision in 1983, preventing the highly biodiverse 2.5ha birch/willow woodland being built on. In Thursday’s ceremony at London City Hall the steering

Gunnersbury Triangle volunteers – including the long-standing Margaret Berger, Jan Hewlett, Peter Leon and Anne Mayo, as well as Christine Leon, Andy Brown, Emma Robertshaw and Ian Alexander – carry out wide-ranging activities such as site management, organising open days, species surveys, biodiversity monitoring, and supporting Trust staff on educational work and fundraising. Gordon Scorer, chief executive of London Wildlife Trust, said: “The group’s long-standing dedication to

the Triangle is remarkable and they fully deserve this award. By ensuring the reserve remains a local community asset, playing an important role in the narrative of London’s nature conservation history, the volunteers should be applauded. It is clear that without their energy and passion Gunnersbury Triangle wouldn’t be here today.” The London Tree and Woodland Awards have been held since 2008 with the aim of celebrating work which protects, improves and expands the capital’s tree and woodland cover; inspires others to manage their trees and woodlands; and raises the profile of London’s woodlands.

Singh was subsequently charged with the offences. On Thursday, 26 May, he pleaded guilty to all the offences at Ealing Magistrates’ court and was sentenced to six weeks suspended for a year, a five-year disqualification from driving and ordered to pay £350 costs and an £80 victim surcharge. Major airlines, business groups and MPs back Heathrow 3rd Runway, say campaign groupNEW CONCERNS THAT A 2ND RUNWAY AT GATWICK RISKS BECOMING A ‘WHITE ELEPHANT’- The majority of major airlines would prefer to see Heathrow expanded rather than Gatwick according to a new campaign launched in Westminster in late May by Back Heathrow.

Pro-expansion group Back Heathrow claims that a new runway at Gatwick risks becoming a white elephant as major airlines want to use an expanded Heathrow but are prevented from doing so as it is already operating at full capacity, unlike Gatwick.

The campaign, aiming to highlight the risks of expanding Gatwick, was launched in Westminster as a giant inflatable white elephant emblazoned with ‘Gatwick 2nd Runway’ passed in front of the Houses of Parliament, Downing St and toured London before ending the day at City Hall.

BAR UK, a trade organisation representing over 70 scheduled airlines operating in the UK, stated that: “The majority of BAR UK airlines have maintained their view that expansion at the UK’s existing hub airport, Heathrow, provides the most compelling solution [to a lack of aviation capacity].”

Back Heathrow Campaign Director Rob Gray said: “We desperately need a new runway in the UK where there is demand and where major airlines would use it – so why would you risk building a

“Heathrow is the clear and unanimous choice of the independent Airports Commission while MPs, airlines and major UK business groups all prefer Heathrow expansion over Gatwick. A meeting of creditors and shareholders will be held at 12 noon this Friday, on May

27, at the office of Bhardwaj Insolvency Practitioners, 47-49 Green Lane, Northwood, Middlesex, HA6 3AE, when a full statement of the company’s affairs will be given and a liquidator nominated.

Ashok Bhardwaj told ATG he currently understood the debts to be in the region of £81,000 with the large majority of creditors thought to be commercial creditors rather than consignors.

Under new ownership, High Road will continue to function as before in west London. Even throughout its recent financial upheavals, sales have been held at the saleroom every Tuesday in 2016.

Staff from High Road’s defunct Twickenham branch (closed in April) will relocate to west London.

The former directors of High Road Auctions Ltd are listed as Robert James McCarthy, Noormahomed Omar Jhaveri and Christopher Blackie although the majority of the shares were held by Terranova Investments. Terranova is now listed as dissolved.

Hounslow Council supported local businesses and the community at the EatChiswick Festival which ended on Wednesday 8 June. The festival proved to be a huge success hosting an array of food at various street markets with tasting events and stalls, including kids’ cake decorating and a tasting masterclass.

Over 80 local businesses took

part to showcase their wares what they are all about, with talks, walks and tours of the area.

Hounslow Council sponsored the Business to Business Social at the event, which took place on the last day of the event, which was aimed at the food and hospitality business, where advice was given in that field on retaining customers, social media and

blogging.

Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “It’s important we can support our local businesses and events like these can encourage the growth of those businesses in our borough”.

Council installs Europe’s largest solar PV array using battery storage Councillors welcome H&F’s new youth mayor team

Fullers owned pub win west London CAMRA awardHounslow Council is leading

the way in saving energy costs and being one of the greenest boroughs, by putting into place the largest solar panel installation using battery storage in Europe.

Supported by the Mayor of London’s RE:FIT programme, the council has installed over 6,000 solar panels on the rooftop of the Western International Market [WIM], and is the first authority to adopt battery storage to maximise power use on site and minimise export to the national grid.

With a total of 6,069 panels, the £2m investment by the council will generate approximately half of the market site’s required electricity (3.5MW), the equivalent of powering 1,750 homes.

The project at the site, which is owned by the council in Hayes Road, Southall, is set to save the council £143,000 in energy costs per year in the first year of operation, with the FIT tariff included, it will be better off by £247,000 and will cut emissions by more than 780 tonnes per year.

The WIM site is west London’s largest wholesale market for fresh produce and flowers and serves over 80 wholesalers and buyers from across the capital.

Council, said: “We are very proud to be leading the way in sustaining energy and costs for businesses and residents. This project demonstrates Hounslow Council’s aspirations to convert Western International Market to a carbon-zero site.

“From the very beginning, this project has been about reducing our carbon footprint and making savings and investments for the future.

“Not only can we expect to see immediate savings on our electricity bills, but we are expecting to see a return on this investment within 7 years.”

To get the project up and running has seen years of hard work from the council in partnership with several key leading energy businesses including, Imtech, Revolution Energy, LG Solar, SolarEdge and Tesvolt

Bob Mills, UK Senior Solar Sales Manager, LG Solar, said: “This project will deliver significant cost savings to the borough not to mention the benefits for the wider community.

“This is our [LG’s] biggest solar panel installation in Europe. It sets the wheels in motion for further investment and research into battery storage which is set to revolutionise the solar industry.”

The success of the installation follows the Council’s RE:FIT project – a multi-authority collaboration led by the West London Alliance – being awarded Best European Energy Service Project at the 2015 European Energy Service Awards.

Councillor Amrit Mann, Deputy Leader, Hounslow Council, said: “I visited Western International Market [WIM] and saw for myself the new solar panels on the rooftop of the wholesale market building, the largest such scheme put up by a local authority.

“The fact we are also the first council to adopt battery

storage there to maximise the power used on site is also a great achievement. This new and extremely exciting system is generating around half of the site’s required electricity and the £2m scheme will ultimately lead to enormous savings in electricity from now and into the future for our borough, reducing our carbon

footprint and making us more environmental-friendly than ever before.

“For our residents across the borough, this is something we can look to increase where possible to make savings, reap the benefits of such a system for all and become more energy efficient. It is was really interesting to hear

Fuller, Smith & Turner P.L.C., the London brewer and premium pub company, is delighted to announce that The Harp [47 Chandos Place, London WC2N 4HS] has been named Pub of the Year by West London CAMRA.

Raising the bar for premium pubs, The Harp saw off tough competition from its competitors. CAMRA judges each pub in the competition on a variety of criteria such as atmosphere, level of service, value for money and community focus, with extra weighting given to the quality of their real ale.

Sara Bird, Manager of The Harp, said: “I’m so proud to receive this – especially as The Harp has such a tradition for fantastic cask ale, having won the CAMRA National Award on a previous occasion. When Fuller’s bought The Harp in 2014, there was a lot of concern that things would change – so winning this award is genuine recognition that we’ve kept to our word and maintained The Harp’s tradition of serving fantastic cask ale from a wide range of breweries.

“I’ve got my sights set on the National Award now. That really would be the icing on the cake – or rather a wonderful head on a superb pint of cask beer.”

Chiswick School pupils take on the Heathrow Secondary School Challenge

76,000 employees come from.

In its seventh year the challenge taught year 8 pupils about coding as part of the Government’s STEM programme which aims to get more young people to take up science, technology, engineering and maths. It was based on the 21 driverless ‘pods’ that are used to transport passengers from business car parks to Terminal 5. Working in teams,

the pupils built their own pods out of Lego, and then programmed them to travel a set route. The challenge finished with a pod race off between teams at the end.

The interactive sessions were joined by 141 colleagues from Heathrow who were able to share their knowledge and experience.

Heathrow Chief Information Officer, Stuart Birrell, said: “Investing in key skills such as coding through schemes like our Secondary School Challenge is important to us and the schools we work with. It was great to see such enthusiasm from the pupils to learn new skills as they got to grips with this year’s challenge. Hopefully some of these young people will be inspired to become our engineers of the future.”

Energy efficiency grants available to small businesses

Wheelie bin collections roll out for the first time Council announce new mayor and other appointments for 2016/17

Fly tippers to face £400 fines

Council grants of up to £5,000 could be available to Ealing’s small and medium sized businesses in a bid to help them become more energy efficient.

Through Ealing Council’s smart business grant, small businesses can get both advice and funding to help reduce costs, increase efficiency and be greener.

It all starts with a free survey designed help identify ways to reduce the business costs of things like heating, water and waste by making efficiency measures and smarter procurement choices.

All types of small businesses can apply and benefit from the smart business grant. So far business as diverse as staircase manufacturers and fish and chip shops have successfully applied. The council has identified that businesses operating in retail, wholesale, manufacturing, distribution and hospitality have potentially the most to benefit from the grant.

Once a series of efficiency measures have been identified, a support package

Most households are moving to a new alternate weekly collection with black rubbish bins collected one week and blue recycling bins the next. Food waste will continue to be collected every week using the small green bins.

Councillor Bell, leader of Ealing Council, and Councillor Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure, were in Hanwell first thing to see for themselves how the new collections were working.

Councillor Mahfouz said: “This is the first morning of an entirely new system and I can already see the difference the new bins are going to make. I’m sure that residents will notice and appreciate the improvement as well. It’s much quicker for crews to collect household waste using the wheelie bins and the change to alternate weekly collection means fewer trucks on the road and less congestion.

“The new service will make it much easier for local people to do the right thing and recycle more and I am especially encouraging people to recycle all of their food waste every week using their small green bins. Disposing of food waste properly will help to keep black wheelies cleaner and it has a huge benefit to the environment.”

Councillor Ajmer Grewal, ward member for Hounslow Central, has been elected Mayor of Hounslow for the municipal year 2016/17.Councillor Daanish Saeed, ward member for Cranford is the new Deputy Mayor

The appointments were made at the annual meeting of the council on Tuesday.

Cllr Grewal is looking forward to meeting as many people as possible across the borough, bringing communities together and highlighting a “vibrant” Hounslow.

Speaking after her election to the office of Mayor for the next 12 months, Cllr Grewal said: “I am extremely

Hounslow Council’s war against ‘enviro crime’ is stepping up a gear following the introduction of £400 fines for anyone caught fly tipping. Fly tipping, more commonly known as dumping, involves illegally leaving items such as white goods, such as fridge/freezers, household furniture or rubble on public or private land. Previously, councils had to resort to costly and often lengthy court action to prosecute those caught in the act. The new powers, introduced this month by the government, will allow council’s to hand out on-the-spot fixed penalty notices of £400 to businesses and individuals. Councillor Sue Sampson, Cabinet Member for Community Protection, Hounslow’s cabinet member

of up to 50% of project costs may be made available, with the remainder match-funded by the business. The minimum grant awarded will be £1,000 and the maximum £5,000. The money is typically used to fund heating, equipment and machinery upgrades, or improvements to fabric, insulation or lighting. These measures can lead to significant cost savings for small business as well as making them more environmentally friendly.

Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council, said: “By reducing their energy consumption businesses are not only reducing their costs, they’re reducing their impact on the environment. That’s good for their reputation and it’s good for our borough, making it cleaner and healthier place for us all to live and work.”

Small business owners interested in Ealing Council’s smart business grant can check their eligibility and find out more about the scheme by emailing [email protected] or visiting the council’s website: www.ealing.gov.uk

Councillor Bell said: “This is one of the biggest changes introduced in the borough in recent years, affecting nearly every household, and I would like to say thank you to all of our residents for their patience and cooperation over the last few months.

“Collection crews are working hard to make sure that the transition to the new system goes as smoothly as

privileged to be elected Mayor of Hounslow and can’t wait to meet all our wonderful communities we have here.

“I am looking forward to visiting many places, helping and supporting those causes and events that mean so much to all our residents. I am honoured to be Mayor and I hope to use my position to make sure that everyone knows about the places and people that make up our fantastic borough.”

As Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Grewal’s chosen charities for the year are Alzheimers Society and Hounslow Association for the Blind.

Cllr Saeed is also looking forward to taking up her

for Hounslow Council, said: “Dumping rubbish is enviro crime and inexcusable. It makes our borough look like a public tip, can cause an obstruction on the streets and is costly to remove. “These on-the-spot fines will hit fly tippers where it hurts – in the pocket. Our enforcement team have been told to take a no-holds-barred approach to dealing with this issue. They will be actively seeking to identify those who have fly tipped and issue fines where there is evidence to do so. “Let this action be a warning to those considering to dump rubbish on our streets; we are watching you, you will be caught and you will be fined.” The council’s enforcement team have been visiting businesses to ensure they have valid commercial waste agreements in place for the

ceremonial role in Hounslow.

Also at the annual meeting was the cabinet make-up for 2015/16.

There were no new members appointed to the Cabinet, just changes to portfolios for some councillors.

Councillor Sue Sampson is now Cabinet Member for Community Protection and Councillor Richard Foote is responsible for Communities.

Councillor Ed Mayne is now Cabinet Member for Corporate Performance and Customer Care, with Councillor Corinna Smart taking up Public Health and Leisure.

For a full list of the cabinet for 2016/17 visit www.hounslow.gov.uk

Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “We have made a changes to the areas that Cabinet Members will pick up and I believe we have a very strong cabinet, the right people in the right places to ensure we deliver on our manifesto of commitments on which we were re-elected on, in 2014.

“We are determined to do this despite the severe cuts by central government which affect these services.”

disposal of their rubbish. Those who fail to provide this legal paperwork will see themselves fined £400 if they are caught dumping their rubbish. The £400 fine is discounted to £250 if payment is made within ten days. The £80 fixed penalty notices for grime crime, including littering and feeding birds still apply, with a reduced fee of £65 for early payment. In the most serious circumstances, the council will continue to take legal action against fly tippers through the courts.

POLITICS: RUTH CADBURY MP. POLITICS&LOCAL ISSUES.

What has the EU ever done for Hounslow?

Ruth urges Government to keep the ban on bee harming pesticides

Vote leave the European Union on June 23rd 2016 – A letter to fellow residents of Chiswick

I’M NOT TALKING TUMMY BUTTONS.......

In a couple of weeks time, we will all have the opportunity to vote in a referendum that will completely redefine Britain’s position in the world. While many people have already decided, there are still a large number who simply do not know how they will vote on the 23rd June. The debate often looks at the national picture, but I want to look at how membership of the European Union benefits us locally. Hounslow Council has secured funding from the European Social Fund for the extension of Skills Escalator which upskills those in low paid employment, helping local people progress in their careers. We also benefit from European Union green transport projects, which have been running for over a year in the

Ruth Cadbury MP has added their name to a growing list of MPs who are opposed to lifting of the ban on bee harming pesticides. Neonicotinoids have been restricted across Europe since 2013 due to mounting evidence that they pose a risk to bees. Bees are responsible for pollinating two thirds of the food we eat. But the National Farmers Union (NFU) has applied to the government to lift the ban in some parts of the country. Ministers are currently considering their application.Ruth Cadbury MP took the pledge to oppose the lifting of the ban at a Parliamentary event held last week, organised by 38 Degrees and Friends of the Earth. MPs heard new evidence from scientists and from a Lincolnshire farmer who had stopped using these pesticides before the ban. Speaking after the event, Ruth Cadbury MP said:‘I have received a huge amount of correspondence from constituents who are concerned about declining bee numbers and the risk this poses to our food chain. The message has been clear, we must keep the ban on bee harming pesticides. I have listened to concerns and I am opposed to any plan to lift the ban’Amy Lockwood, Campaign Manager at 38 Degrees, said: “38 Degrees members have come together - in our hundreds of thousands - to send a clear message to the government: the British people don’t want the ban on bee killing pesticides to be lifted.”Sandra Bell, The Bee Cause campaigner at Friends of the Earth, said:“Bees are essential for pollinating our crops - we can’t afford to gamble with their future. The Government must keep these dangerous pesticides out of our fields.”

borough. In addition to these projects, the EU has given support for further skills projects and mental health services in the area and have co-financed projects that run regionally that benefit residents here. As well as the direct benefits to the area from EU funded projects, local businesses have firmly said that Britain’s membership of the EU is beneficial to their busines and thus their ability to grow and employ. This is not just from smaller businesses such as Fashionizer, but global organisations like GSK who are adamant that Britain should remain a member of the European Union. On June 23rd we have a really important decision to make. Listen to the local businesses who contribute to our thriving area of London, see the impact that EU funded projects are making in our communities and vote Remain on the 23rd June.

Dear SirI am voting to leave the EU. My decision is not based on the wants of Cameron, Farage, Putin, Johnson, Osborne, Gove, Merkel, Obama, Corbyn etc etc blah, blah, blah and certainly not about using the analogy of a night club to describe the upcoming referendum, but simply my own reasons for voting for the UK to leave the EU. If you agree great, if you don’t I will always respect your choice. After all, we live in a democracy.

The EU is not undemocratic, it is ANTI-DEMOCRATIC. To ‘UN’ something you need to have whatever you are ‘UN-ING’, existing in the first place - The EU was not created to allow the mechanism of self determination of member states.

To a certain degree, I do champion its original core principles and it has had an undeniably incredible, positive impact on poorer member states, undoubtedly enhancing life for many, and to some extent helped break down confrontation between nations and ethnic groups on the continent.

It is important for us to acknowledge immigration at sustainable levels, the rights of foreign workers and the right of fellow humans to seek refuge within our borders from conflict zones around the world.

I adhere to the beliefs of sovereignty, right to self security/defence and above all democracy and self determination.

Yes, our politicians have a lot to answer to/for, but we elect them and we can remove them via the democratic process. OK, there is a lot we can argue about but, fundamentally, our country, THE UNITED KINGDOM, allows free men and women to elect those a voting man or woman believes can best represent them, or at least put faith in the elected to do what they profess they will at a political level, locally, nationally and internationally.

Are you aware of the plans if we stay in? The Treaty of Lisbon, a treaty supposedly drawn up to ‘shake up’ EU protocol, led to member states losing their right to Veto. There is call for another treaty to reform the Lisbon Treaty and a few other treaties are in the pipeline to cancel out or amend existing treaties - what a treat.

The European super army - would you be happy with our forces being deployed at a moment’s notice by an unelected High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy from Berlin?

Leaving will secure a democratic process remains in place. There will of course be implications, but trade will continue. Switzerland trades 40% more with the EU than the UK at present thanks to bilateral trade agreements that ensure a win/win situation. Fishing quotas will be restored, farming will take a hit from grants and subsidies but this can be met with UK grant and subsidies from saving made by leaving.

Anyway, I can go on, but here’s a few questions....

1) Can you name your MEP?

2) How many presidents does the EU have (I’ll give you a clue - there should be only one and by definition is an ELECTED head of a nation, institution, business etc) and can you name them?

3) How much to the single EURO do we pay in £’s (a sort of ‘reclaimation’ tax) for each so called ‘grant’ given to the UK by the EU?

4) What are the clauses in the recent trade treaty the present uS President has signed with the EU that directly affect the UK?

5) Can a UK Law Lord be overruled by an EU bureaucrat?

6) How many EU ‘civil servants’ earn more than the UK Prime Minister?

7) How many elected decision makers (not MEP’s) are in the EU?

8) How many UK MEP’s have successfully instigated new policy that has benefited the UK at local level and, for that matter, nationally?

9) How many objections raised by the UK to implemented EU policy have been successful in the last 18 months?

10) Will you be allowed to vote on EU policy that will affect the uK, locally, nationally and internationally if we stay in the EU?

12) Are you aware of Bilateral trade and financial agreements and Treaties that are in place and will continue to exist if we leave the EU?

11) Who is this?:

If you can’t answer these, I’d recommend VOTE LEAVE as you may not have much interest in the EU.Thom Williams, W4.

On Tuesday 7th June, Pernod Ricard staff at its UK headquarters in Chiswick will be rolling up their sleeves and gearing up for a day of volunteering, supporting seven local community partners in a diverse range of activities. This is part of the company’s sixth annual Responsib’All Day, where all 18,000 Pernod Ricard employees across the world have taken time out of their day jobs to focus on giving back to communities local to their offices. This year employees will participate in volunteering that spreads conviviality; bringing good company and creating social spaces for those who need them most. Employees will, amongst other projects, be gardening and painting at Mencap, the leading UK charity for those with a learning disability as well as organising tea parties at two local care homes, St Vincent’s House and Elgin Close, to celebrate the Queen’s recent 90th birthday and help to combat isolation for residents. More teams of dedicated staff will be working with local art therapy charity, Friends of Cathja, to revamp their Brentford shop and community space; others will be getting their hands dirty with gardening at Hestia the Heronway Community Allotment, Hounslow.

Pernod Ricard employees will also be rejuvenating the outside space at Hounslow Foodbox centre. Denis O’Flynn, Managing Director, Pernod Ricard UK, said, “Our staff are motivated and inspired by the challenge of Responsib’All Day and I’m proud of them for getting stuck in and having such a positive impact.”O’Flynn added: “We are delighted to continue our support for the local community. Developing our relationships with both local and national charities is one of the real benefits of this initiative. Last year’s Responsib’ALL Day, working with Foodbox, led to an ongoing volunteering programme with the organisation, where we have donated over 30 days of working time to the charity and we will be looking for other local partners we could support on an ongoing basis, not just for one day.” Pernod Ricard’s Chairman and CEO, Alexandre Ricard, said, “At Pernod Ricard, we define ourselves as “Créateurs de convivialité”. However, there is no convivialité without reaching out to others. While our society is crossing more and more rough patches, it is vital to foster discussions and meetings but also encourage the sharing of different ideas within our

communities. That’s why, to mark this 6th Responsib’All Day, our 18,500 employees are going to devote an entire day to supporting these local communities”.

Allowances for Hammersmith & Fulham councillors have been frozen for the second year running. The decision to freeze payments for all councillors follows the unprecedented 10 per cent cut to cabinet members’ allowances – which saw the first-ever reduction in members’ allowances at H&F Council. The pay cut and subsequent allowances freeze is central to the council’s commitment to protecting frontline services for local residents, by stripping out wastefulness, bringing an end to unnecessary roles and inflated salaries at the Town Hall. This has seen over £600,000 cut from the cost of senior management over the last two years. The 10 per cent cut and subsequent allowances

Truth, justice – and ACCOUNTABILTY?by Reverend Martine Oborne

Accountability has a dull ring to it.

The word conjures up images of ledgers and double entry book keeping. But this was the word that I travelled home with, after watching the play Chilcot at the Battersea Arts Centre last Saturday.

The play is heavy, as you would expect, but ex-tremely helpful in highlighting the key questions that we hope the Chilcot Inquiry will answer.

But the question that I came way with, that trou-bled me most, was - Would anyone ultimatelty be held accountable for what happened? For all the deaths that were the direct consequence of our intervention in Iraq in 2003?

Would those who have lied, deceived, been neg-ligent ever be held to account?

The Chilcot Inquiry is due to be published on 6 July. It is expected to comprise 2.6 million words – that’s over four times as long as War and Peace. But, sadly, it is expected to speak far less truth about war and peace than Tolstoy’s epic novel.

The inquiry is highly likely to criticise Tony Blair, amongst others, for his actions. But is criticism enough? Especially if there is a strong case that invading Iraq without a second UN res-olution was illegal.

Don’t people need to be held to account?

Won’t the families of soldiers who died, the families of those who have died in subsequent terrorist attacks and the families of Iraqis who have died continue to demand truth, justice and accountability.

Break the speed limit in this country and you will be held to account. Quite rightly. In doing this, you may cause the loss of innocent life.

Break international law and wage a war on falsi-fied evidence and ignore the advice of MI5 that your actions will increase the risk of terrorism – and you may be criticised. But you are other-wise let off scot free.

It took 27 years for the families of those killed at Hillsborough in 1989 to get justice and to hold

David Duckenfield and South Yorkshire Police to account – not only for mistakes made on the day but also for the subsequent cover up.

Families of those killed in the 1974 IRA Bir-mingham pub bombings have recently succeeded in getting an inquest re-opened after 42 years into who was really to account for what happened.

Hopefully, if Chilcot does not result in full ac-countability, the families of those who have died will fight on. And maybe in 2030 (after 27 years) or 2045 (after 42 years) we will see not only truth and justice but also accountability.

There’s a story in the Bible about the two sons of Adam – Cain and Abel. Cain gets jealous of Abel and kills him and then he tries to get away with it. But God meets with him and says that Abel’s blood is crying out to him from the ground. Cry-ing out for truth, justice and accountability.

Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have died, 179 British soldiers died and more people have died as the result of subsequent terrorist attacks. The blood of all these men and women cries out from the ground.

Not for vengeance – but for accountability.

Celebrating 50 years of Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Chiswick’s Bedford Park Festival

Bedford Park Society announces new Chair

The London premiere of the play Walter & Lenny later this month – in the beautiful Arts and Crafts church of St Michael & All Angels, Bedford Park – will celebrate two remarkable collaborations between the church and the arts in the 1960s.

“I have always been most eager to do anything I possibly can to foster the ancient links between the church and the arts. Before I came to Chichester, I got Henry Moore to carve a Madonna and Child and Benjamin Britten to write a cantata. I am most eager to carry on this work…” Letter to Leonard Bernstein from Water Hussey, Dean of Chichester Cathedral, December 1963 - - -- Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms was commissioned by the Dean of Chichester Cathedral, Walter Hussey, for its 1965 music festival.

- Chiswick’s Bedford Park Festival was conceived in 1966 by the vicar of St Michael & All Angels, Jack Jenner, and revived art, architecture, drama, music and poetry in the world’s first garden suburb.

Walter & Lenny is devised and performed by the actor Peter

The Bedford Park Society has elected Helen Jameson as Chair in succession to Peter Eversden, who has stepped down after 19 years’ sterling work for the conservation area.

Awarded the MBE in the New Years honours list for 35 years of service to community engagement in planning for London, Peter has worked tirelessly to keep Bedford Park safe for future generations.

Helen has lived in Bedford Park for 26 years, and been a committee member since 1998. She has been very active on traffic and transport issues, particularly the campaign against Heathrow’s third runway. In 2014 she negotiated the listing of the Tabard as an Asset of Community Value, and was part of the group which organised last year’s commemoration of Jonathan T Carr, founder of Bedford Park.

Helen was also on the working group which developed the concept for Society’s new sub-committee structure, which is designed to enable more people to become actively involved in the work of the Society, and she chairs the Infrastructure sub-committee.

Commenting on her new role, Helen says: “Bedford Park is such a lovely

McEnery and produced and directed by Julia St John. It will be performed at 7.30pm on Sunday June 12th and Monday June 13th in St Michael & All Angels Church, close to Turnham Green tube station. Tickets are on sale at www.bedfordparkfestival.org price £15.

The play tells how Bernstein, the composer of West Side Story, was commissioned to compose Chichester Psalms by the Dean of Chichester Cathedral, the Very Reverend Walter Hussey. Hussey was a remarkable patron of the arts and the two men formed an extraordinary friendship, documented in The Leonard Bernstein Letters by Nigel Simeone.

Peter McEnery says: “This is the stuff of Theatre! The celebrated, world-famous musician and the largely unknown Dean of Chichester Cathedral, Walter Hussey. The former famous for composing West Side Story and On The Town, conducting Mahler, Beethoven and Mozart, the latter a patron of art who commissioned Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Marc Chagall, Benjamin Britten…and Leonard Bernstein. This was the one-man show I had been looking for.”

place to live, not only because of the historic buildings but also the sense of community. This is an exciting time of change for the Bedford Park Society, and Peter has left us a tremendous legacy on which to build. I look forward to continuing our vital role in preserving the character of Bedford Park whilst also driving forward our efforts to devote more time to broader community matters and to lobby on issues of importance to residents in a modern and responsive way. I very much look forward to working with the existing team and will be looking for ways to attract new volunteers to become involved with the Society.”

Helen praised Peter for the time and commitment he has given to Bedford Park and its community, and the many significant achievements of the Society under his leadership.A passionate advocate for Bedford Park’s historic importance, he ensured the Society’s remit encompassed all aspects of the built environment and the streetscape. He has been a strong campaigner on issues ranging from the protracted negotiations with Ealing and Hounslow on their first CPZs and appropriate traffic management within Bedford Park, to battling for appropriate street lighting. He has campaigned against the expansion of Heathrow, and the imposition

of wheelie bins in the conservation area.

A vocal advocate of green policies, he set up a survey of street trees in 2004 to encourage the planting of more.

During his chairmanship the Society organised a ground-breaking “summit”, held in 2009, to bring together elected councillors, conservation experts and borough officials to discuss the issues facing Bedford Park. He was also a strong supporter of the Society’s initiative, led by Deputy Chairman Peter Murray, to research and create log books for each listed house.

Peter Eversden has built up a formidable knowledge of planning law and an extensive network of personal contacts as Chair of the London Forum of Amenity and Civic Societies. The Society will continue to benefit from his expertise as he will now become Deputy Chairman, and continue to be actively involved with the Infrastructure sub-committee.

Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra at Chiswick House

Moving from the couch to the yoga mat

Are you a Ronnie Scott’s fan but don’t always find it easy to make it to Soho? Or maybe you do find it easy, but you’d like to catch a little Ronnie’s action in lighter and sunnier surroundings?!

Ronnies Soctt’s Jazz Orchestra has a series of Summer gigs including Chiswick House (19th June) with special guests Georgie Fame, Claire Martin and more.

Direct from the heart of Soho, Ronnie Scott’s legendary jazz club will be a highlight of Summer Sessions this year.

Established in 1959, Ronnie Scott’s has been one of London’s premium night spots for over half a century, and has played host to many greats, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Prince, Nina Simone, Wynton

Many of my patients are often already practicing

or take up “physical” activities such as Pilates, Tai Chi, Qigong or Yoga. Over the years I’ve tried yoga on a number of occasions but not been able to find one that I’ve wanted to continue. So when I heard of a form of yoga where the underlying assumption is about uncovering or more accurately rediscovering the innate expertise we have to live a healthier life, an association I make with therapy - I wanted to explore further.

Fairlie Gibson teaches this yoga in London but also runs holidays to teach this approach, she told me “the yoga holidays I offer are based upon an approach practiced and shared by Vanda Scaravelli. Vanda didn’t want to give her style a new name but it has become known as Scaravelli inspired yoga. We set the holidays in either beautiful mountainous Andalucia or on the gorgeous turquois coast on Southern Turkey. The aim of these holidays is give the participants, no matter what their experience of yoga, the chance to experience this, as yet, little known approach”.

By way of some background and before I talk more about the potential interplay and complementarity of this yoga

Marsalis and the legendary Jimi Hendrix.

For one night only, the trendiest venue in London comes to Chiswick House and Gardens. The Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra is one of the UK’s finest big bands teeming with first-call players who provide a thrilling, spirited array of swinging tunes for the evening’s guest vocalists. On the evening, the orchestra will be joined by special guest, Chiswick-born trumpeter, arranger and composer Guy Barker who has played with a who’s who of today’s musical stars including Frank Sinatra. Guest vocalists include three time UK number one jazz singer, Georgie Fame, British Jazz award winner Claire Martin OBE and soulful powerhouse Vanessa Haynes, the acclaimed lead singer for

to therapy I want to go back in history as I think it provides some basic and helpful context. The word disease has its origins in 14c. coming from Old French desaise and it was an holistic term covering the experience of both physical and emotional distress. It is simply the opposite of ease so the experience of “dis”ease. As medical science has found treatable causes for many sources of distress the word disease has become associated primarily with the physical. With “ill at ease” being used instead of disease but also having the connotation of some minor discomfort. In the same way the word patient has its origin in patience meaning someone that endures pain and suffering.

The importance of all this is recognition that the physical and emotional are in fact inseparable. If you feel “dis-ease” then do see your doctor but remember that when you reach the limits of what current medical science can provide you will need to access your own resources to treat or manage any remaining “dis-ease.”

The relationship I build with patients aims to bring a sense of safety and relaxation as we spend time together. That sense of relaxation or comfort enabling us to look again at

This incredibly unique experience is sure to be one to remember!

how life is being lived and identify misunderstandings, unhelpful thinking, unhelpful habits, automatic responses and physical actions that have become fixed when in reality in any given moment and in any situation a range of options will be available. In short our way of living or being that was helpful in the past may not be the most helpful now.

So now back to the yoga. The experience of many who have trained in yoga is the need to learn new moves, push the body, stretch to the limit in other words to add more instruction and to have to work harder – all at a time when they have been drawn to a physical activity because they want to make life better. Resulting struggles to achieve the pose, remember the sequences, to practice regularly combined with physical injury, negative thoughts and feelings can all lead to the exact opposite of what was hoped.

Scaravelli is known to have said “if you are kind to your body, it will respond in an incredible way”. My own experience of the yoga was first and foremost one of kindness, creating space, allowing, appreciating and only then to move the body in ways that are known to result in greater flexibility, strength

and sense of well being.

Fairlie told me “It’s about coming home to yourself rather than learning something new or put another way, about unlearning and then being with ourselves in a different way”. She continued “We have become so absorbed in the need to achieve. In yoga visuals of practitioners bent double in seemingly impossible stances have resulted in a lot of pressure to achieve whereas it is more about experiencing freedom

in the body. The pace of the practice is such that there is great emphasis on creating space and allowing time for the body to find its optimum”.

As the week progressed I found myself feeling very at ease in positions that felt wonderfully natural only to realize I was actually adopting positions that I would have anticipated requiring a huge amount of effort. I’m not saying it is easy, its not about whether its easy or hard its more about what can

happen once you have let go of trying. Fairlie called this “effortless effort.” And I find myself concluding that the space this yoga creates and the freedom it generates to allow for change is indeed very therapeutic. This is a form of yoga I am interesting in continuing to practice.

Details of upcoming yoga holidays can be found on Fairlie’s website www.freeingthebody.com

Brave Royal Navy seamen who served in a ferocious maritime battle 100 years ago were remembered during a poignant service in West London last week.H&F Council Lead Member Representative for the Armed Forces, Cllr Alan De’Ath visited war veteran’s charity Stoll in Fulham Road on Tuesday 31 May, to mark the centenary of the Battle of Jutland. The First World War’s largest naval clash took place off the Danish coast and resulted in the loss of nearly 9,000 lives.“It is very important to take the time to remember and honour the bravery of those who lost their lives in service of their country,” said Cllr De’Ath.“It is particularly poignant to share this with the centenary of Stoll, which has worked tirelessly on the behalf of ex-service personnel to give them vital support that helps them stay independent both in the borough, and beyond. The Stoll Foundation was established in 1916 to provide comfortable and inexpensive homes for servicemen injured during the First World War. Today the charity continues to provide housing and other essential services to vulnerable and disabled veterans.“We our proud to have Stoll in the borough and will continue to work closely with them,” added Cllr De’Ath.Commemorations to mark the centenary were held throughout the country, with dignitaries from Britain and Germany joining with descendants from the original crews at St Magnus Cathedral in Orkney.

Nearly 9,000 seamen lost their lives during the Battle of JutlandThe cathedral site overlooks Scapa Flow, the harbour where the British navy were anchored during the conflict and where many of the fallen now lay buried.

Northern Ireland and QPR striker Conor Washington is hoping his team’s final group match in Euro 2016 will be a good omen.

The sides will meet in Paris on Tuesday, June 21 at the Parc des Princes in their Group C encounter, and the 24-year-old ex-postman revealed he used to relish playing on a Tuesday, rather than arriving for Saturday fixtures fatigued during his time with non-League St Ives between 2010 and 2012.

“At the time scouts were coming to watch I was praying they would come on Tuesday night because at least I would get some sleep in the afternoon,” Washington said.

“I was turning up to some Saturday FA Vase games, the biggest games of my career at the time, and I literally had to run my round. I probably shouldn’t say this but I had to bring my mate in - there was late post, it was probably delivered to the wrong address, parcels going

QPR midfielder Sandro is in talks over a move to Sporting Lisbon, Sky sources understand.

The Brazil international spent the second half of last season on loan at West Brom but failed to earn the offer of a permanent deal.

missing - just to try and get to this game.

“One of the last games of the season I turned up three minutes before kick-off, it was just carnage. Thinking back now, it’s so funny.”

Having averaged more than a goal-a-game in his 50 appearances for a club in the ninth tier, Washington then got his break with Newport.

They were promoted to the Football League in his first season, although Washington barely featured, scoring just once in the league and being left out of the squad which won the play-off final at Wembley.

“We got promoted but I hadn’t played any part in it,” Washington said.

“As much as it was great for all the lads, it was a horrible feeling. I’ve only been involved in one promotion and I didn’t feel like I’d actually contributed at all.

“I sat down with my parents

He made just five starts in six months at the Hawthorns and it is understood manager Tony Pulis has opted to explore other central midfielder options.

Sandro, 27, joined QPR from Tottenham in a £6m deal in the summer of 2014,

and just said, ‘I’m going to give it one last go. I’ve got one year left, if it doesn’t work out there’s other options I can explore - going in the airforce and things like that’.

“It was chains are off, shackles are off; I went back in pre-season and the first few sessions a few of the lads were a bit surprised that I was maybe as good as I was.

“It was really nice at that point to take all the pressure off myself and go and enjoy it.

“From where I’ve come from, it’s been a crazy ride up through the leagues.

“There might be those niggling doubts of am I good enough to play at this level? Hopefully I’ve done enough to quash those worries.

“Football’s football at any level, if you’re good enough you’ll play and have an impact. I back myself 100 per cent of the time to have an effect on the game.”

with Spurs recouping all the money they paid Brazilian side Internacional to sign him.

He had played in the Champions League under former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp, and it was Redknapp who took him to

Loftus Road before the Rs were relegated in 2015.

Sandro has made 28 appearances for the west

London club, including 11 in the Championship last season, and has 17 caps for his country.

Brentford midfielder Alan Judge warned over doping breach

Alan Judge has been found guilty of breaching the FA’s anti-doping regulations

Brentford midfielder Alan Judge has been warned over his future conduct after being found to have breached the FA’s anti-doping regulations.Judge suffers from asthma and was charged after the presence of salbutamol (gained via an asthma inhaler), above the WADA permitted threshold, was found in his system. The 27-year-old, who denied the charge, has been issued with a reprimand and will be target tested for the next two years. However, the sanction set by the FA Regulatory Commission confirmed Judge had shown “No Significant Fault or Negligence”. A Brentford statement read: “Alan Judge has been found by The FA to have committed an anti-doping violation related to his therapeutic use of an asthma inhaler and issued with a warning.“Alan has suffered from exercise-induced asthma

Lasse Vibe missed Denmark’s 4-0 win over Bulgaria this morning after he returned home early from The Danes’ Kirin Cup campaign in Japan due to an injury picked up in the warm-up before last week’s defeat to Bosnia-Herzegovina. The striker was in line to earn his 11th cap for his nation but was forced to pull out minutes before kick-off as his side let a 2-0 lead slip before losing 6-5 on penalties.

Friday’s defeat meant that Åge Hareide’s side faced Bulgaria this morning in the Third/Fourth placed Play-Off, a match they went

since he was a child and was given permission to use the inhaler.“Following a match last August, Alan’s levels of salbutamol from his inhaler use were found to be slightly above the threshold, however in mitigation, he provided a full explanation of the circumstances surrounding this.“The FA found the case proven due to the level of salbutamol but acknowledged Alan’s strong arguments in mitigation by issuing a decision which confirmed that he demonstrated “No Significant Fault or Negligence”.“The club will not be making any further comment.”Judge is currently recovering from the broken leg he suffered in April and last week posted a video on his official Twitter page showing that he was able to walk without crutches.

on to win 4-0. Former FC Midtjylland striker Morten Duncan Rasmussen opened the scoring in the first-half before Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen stole the show in the second-half with a ten minute hat-trick late on.
