AtC2Church,weuseafour-foldapproachtospiritualgrowthcalledSOAP.ItstandsforScripture,Observation,ApplicationandPrayer.ScholarstakingpartintheministryofCCAwillbegivenmanyopportunitiestostudyandmemorizeBiblicalscriptures,expounduponthem,andbeprovidedwaystoapplythemintheireverydaylives.FamilieswithscholarsenrolledintheministryofCCAareencouragedtodothesameonadailybasis. ScripturalStudy Frompersonalgrowthtoolsandintentionalenvironmentstoschool-wideinitiativesandexperiences,achild’sfaithjourneycanbestrengthenedbyrelationships,deepenedbystudyandrootedinpersonaldisciplines.Tothatend,scholarswillhavemanyopportunitiestostudythescripture,whichwillaugmenttheirunderstandingofGod’swordinadditiontoCCA’suseofcurriculumbasedonaChristianworldview.Parentsarealsoencouragedtohelptheirchild(ren)exploreGod’swordathome. CoreandAdditionalAcademicProgramming CCAoffersinstructioninBible,languagearts(reading,handwriting,grammar,spellingandhandwriting),math,science,andsocialstudieswiththeirclassroomteacher.Otherteachersprovideinstruction/supportinart,library,music,physicaleducation,Spanish,andtechnology. GradingScale A+ 100% A 99-96% A- 95-93% B+ 92-91% B 90-86% B- 85-84% C+ 83-82% C 81-75% C- 74-72% D+ 71-70% D 69-63% D- 62-60% F 59-0% SpecialConsiderations StudentswithspecialeducationalneedswillneedtomeetwithadministrationtoseeifCCAisabletomeettheneedsofyourstudent.StudentswithacurrentIEPor504willdiscusstheaccommodationsneededtoseeiftheycanbemetatCCA.Wemustalwayslookattheneedsofthestudentfirst;ifCCAisunabletomeetthoseneedswewillguideyoutowardstherightprogramoutsideofCCAthatcanmeetthoseneeds. Athletics,AcademicEligibility AnystudentwhowishestoparticipateinanysportsatCCAmusthaveanannualsportsphysicalandmedicalinsuranceonfileintheschoolofficebeforehe/shemayparticipate.ActivityanduniformfeesarechargedtoSmartTuitionforthosewhoparticipate. AcademicEligibility Inordertoparticipateinschool-sponsoredathletics,studentsmustkeepatleastaC–average,usingaweightedaverage,forallclassesanddemonstratesatisfactoryconduct.IfastudenthasbelowaC–averageatgradingtime(mid-quarterorquarter)thestudentwillnotbeallowedtocompeteinCCAathletics,althoughtheywillbeallowedtocontinuetopracticewiththeteam.Ifanineligiblestudentshouldfailtoraisetheirgradeaveragebythenextgradingtime,theywillnotbeallowedtoevenpracticewiththeteam.AcademicineligibilitymayalsobeginwhenCCAstaffrequestsandtheadministrationapprovesthatastudentberestrictedduringaquarterofstudy.

8 DeterminingtheEndofIneligibility WhenastudentisdeterminedtobeineligibleduetohavingbelowaC–averageatagradingtime,thestudent’sgradeswillbeexaminedattheendofeachweekandanewweightedaveragewillbecalculated. StudentAssessments TheStanfordAchievementTest(SAT)isusedtomeasureeachstudent’sacademicperformancelevelin1st—8thgrade.TheOtis-LennonSchoolAbilityTest(OLSAT)isalsousedingrades2,4,and6.ThetestsareusuallyadministeredeachyearinearlyApril.Approximatelyfivecalendardaysaresetasidetoadministerthetests.Studentsandfamilieswillreceiveacopyoftheachievementtestscoresattheendoftheschoolyear. PreschoolProgram ThepreschoolprogramofCCAprovidesastafftostudentratioof1:8 Attendance Thestaffismindfuloftheparent-childbondofearlychildhoodandhasacasual,yetplanned,atmospheretostarteachday.Thepreschoolisopenfrom7:00a.m.until5:30p.m.everydaythatschoolisinsession.Weaskthatstudentsarriveby8:00a.m.sincethatisthetimethemorestructuredlearningactivitiesbegin.Thedayconcludesat12:00P.m.forhalf-daystudentsandat3:00p.m.forfull-daystudents.SeethesectiononExtendedCareinthisbookforinformationaboutafter-schoolcareoptionsforhalf-daystudentsandthosestayingpastthe3:00schoolday. Attendanceisexpectedofchildrenforeachdaytheyareenrolled.Ifachildisabsent,aphonecalltotheschoolofficeismosthelpful.Messagesforteachersorchildrenwillbepromptlyhandledthroughtheschooloffice. Calendar ThepreschoolacademicyearisconsistentwiththeelementaryandsecondaryscheduleofChristianChapelAcademyandispublishedasaseparatedocument.Pleaseconsultitforthefirstandlastdaysofschool,aswellasvacationperiodsandotherimportantevents. ConferencesandObservations Parentsmaycometothepreschooltoobservetheirchildatanytime.Theofficehasone-wayglassiftheparentdoesnotwishtobeseenbythechild.Teacherswillusuallynotbeabletodiscussthechild'sprogressunlessanappointmenthasbeenscheduledinadvance;beforeandafterthepreschoolhoursareusuallythebesttimes.Pleasephonetheschoolofficeat573-874-2325toarrangeaconferenceatamutuallyconvenienttime. ProgressEvaluation Progressevaluationswillbedoneduringtheschoolyeartoinformtheparentofthechild'sprogress.Ifyouwishtodiscussyourchild'sprogress,pleasecontacttheteacher.

9 PreschoolDisciplinePolicy Parents,bringchildrenupwiththelovingdisciplinetheLordhimselfapproves.Ephesians6:4 ThegoalofCCA’sdisciplinepolicyistoprovidelovingdisciplinebasedonatotalunderstandingoftheyoungchild.Inordertomaintainthebestatmospherefordiscipline,thepreschoolwill:

● Establisharoutinesoeachchildwillknowwhattoexpect. ● Provideconsistencyintheconsequencesofmisbehavior. ● Establishclearlydefinedlimitsofbehavior.

Formostchildren,asimplereminderofappropriatebehaviorisallthatwillberequired.Ontheoccasionswhenareminderisnotenough,thechildwillbegivenabrief"timeout".Achildwillonlyberemovedfromtheclassroom,shouldhe/shecontinuetodisturb,deliberatelydisobey,orshowaggressivebehavior.Theparentswillalwaysbenotifiedifthisactionisnecessary. V. PersonalResponsibility CodeofConduct Inorderforourstudentstoreachthegoalofself-discipline,theymustknowwhatisexpectedfromthem.Atthebeginningoftheschoolyear,thestudentswillbegivenabrief,butthorough,summaryofwhatisexpectedofthemfromboththeprincipalandtheirclassroomteacher(s).Theseexpectationsarebuiltaroundthefollowingprinciples:

● ShowproperrespectforGodatalltimes ● Begoodstewardsofpropertyandfacilities ● Bekindandrespectfultoothersatalltimes ● Practicesafetyatalltimes

ConflictResolution ItisthecommitmentofCCAtofunctionasaChristiancommunity.Therearetimeswhenconcernsandconflictarise,inspiteofsincereattemptstoavoidmisunderstandingsandproblemswithintheschool.Itisthepolicyoftheschooltoapproachtheseproblemsthroughtheapplicationofwhatisoftencalledthe‘Matthew18Principle.’TheseinstructionsfromtheLordJesusarefoundinMatthew18:15-17.Weunderstandthemtomeanthefollowing:Ifaconflictdevelopsbetweenmembersofourschoolfamily(whetherstudents,stafforparents/guardians),thefirststepisforthetwopeopledirectlyinvolvedtomeettogether.Thegoalofthismeetingistoresolvetheproblemandrebuildtherelationshipthroughanimprovedunderstandingoftheissues,asearchforalternativesolutionsandforgivenessforaconflict.Theschool’sleadershipisconvinced,bybiblicalstandardandbypractice,thatthisisthebestandmosteffectivewaytosolveaproblem.Ifrepeatedattemptsatresolutiononapersonallevelarenotsuccessful,thentheissueshouldbetakentothenextlevelofsupervision.Whenstudentsareinvolved,helpshouldbesoughtfromateacher.Ifitisaparent-teacherissue,thenitshouldbebroughttotheprincipal.Inallcases,aconcentratedeffortismadebyallstaffmemberstofirstaskifthepeoplemostdirectlyinvolvedhavetalkedthroughtheissues.Ifthishasnottakenplace,theindividualwillbereferredbacktothepersondirectlyinvolved.

10 AttendancePolicy Regularattendanceandpromptarrivalatscheduledclassesareessentialforsatisfactoryachievementandprogressinschool.Regularattendanceatschoolisthejointresponsibilityofparentsandstudents.Studentswhoareabsentfromschoolmusthaveaparentcallbefore9:00a.m.andstatethereasonfortheabsence.Ifwedonothearfromyou,wemaycallhometoensureyourchild'ssafety. Becauseregularandconsistentattendanceatschoolissuchanimportantfactorinstudents’academicsuccess,astudent’sfailuretosatisfyCCA’sattendancerequirementof90%mayresultinthedenialofre-enrollment.Thisrequirementallowsforamaximumofnineabsencesineachsemester. Tardiness Whenastudentmissesthebeginningofclass,itdisruptsthelearningprocessofboththestudentandothers.Eachstudentisexpectedtobeintheclassroomby8:00A.M.Morningworkiscruciallearningtimethatlaysasolidfoundationandsetstheeducationaltonefortheday.Tardinesswillbekeptonrecordineachclassthroughoutthesemester. Tardinessinexcessof6occurrencespersemesterwillresultinaBEFOREschooldetention.Eachsubsequenttardywillresultindisciplinaryactionofbeforeschooldetention.StudentswillreporttoExtendedCareby7:15amthedayfollowingthenoticefromtheschoolandwillbechargedExtendedCarerates. Absences Absencesarebrokendownintotwocategories,excusedandunexcused.Absenceisexcusedifitoccursforoneofthefollowingreasons:

● Illness ● Deathintheimmediatefamily ● Doctorordentalappointmentswhennecessary ● Animportantreasonnotmentioned,butapprovedbytheCCAPrincipal

Foreachoccurrenceofabsenteeism,thestudentmustbringinawrittenexcusethatissignedbytheparentorguardianifitistobeanexcusedabsence.TheparentisresponsibletoensuretheexcuseisprovidedtotheCCAPrincipal.Aphysician’snotemayberequiredifthestudentisabsentlongerthanthree(3)days. Thestudentisresponsibleforallmissedwork.Adeadlinefor“make-up”workwillbeestablishedwiththeteacher,andiftheworkishandedinonorbeforethedeadline,thestudentwillreceivefullcreditwhentheabsenteeismwasexcused.However,iftheworkisturnedinlate,thestudentwillnotreceivefullcredit. ExcusedAbsences Excusedabsencesincludethefollowing:personalillness;deathorseriousillnessintheimmediatefamily;medicalappointments;school-sponsoredactivities;pre-approvedfamilyorchurchtrips;andabsencesduetoweatherorroadconditionsthatmaketravelunsafeordangerous;andothercircumstancesorsituationsdeterminedappropriatebytheCCAPrincipal. Althoughaparenthastherighttokeepastudenthomefromschool,theschoolalsohastherightnottoexcuserequeststhatdonotfallwithintheseabovecategories.Studentsareexpectedtobein

11 schoolonthedayfollowinganathleticevent,socialevent,fieldtrip,andanyotheractivityunlessexcusedbytheadministration. Forexcusedabsencesofvariouslengths,studentshaveoneday,perdayabsent,tomakeupacademicwork. UnexcusedAbsences Unexcusedabsencesinclude,butarenotlimitedto,thefollowing:oversleeping;schoolwork(projects,testpreparation);shopping;errands;familydayswithoutadvancenoticeprovidedtotheschool;and,othersituationsasdeemedappropriatebytheCCAPrincipal. Lackofparticipation,bynotattendingaschooleventsuchasaretreatorserviceproject,willbeconsideredasanunexcusedabsence,unlessparentsofferrationalethatisconsistentwiththeabovereasonsforanexcusedabsence. ● FSAhoursarenottransferrabletootherfamilies,butextendedfamilymembersmayserveyourfamily’srequiredhours.Forexample,agrandparentwhowantstoservemaydoso,andthosehourswillcounttowardthefamily’sten(10)hourrequirement.

● Childrenareencouragedtoserveasappropriatetotheirageanddevelopment.However,theirservicehourswillnotsubstituteforthefamily’sten(10)hours.

● Ourgoalistobeasflexibleaswecanwithopportunitiestoserve.Wewillhaveopportunitiesnotonlyduringtheregularschoolday,butalsointheevenings,andonsomeweekendstoaccommodateavarietyofschedules.

Manyinfractionsofanunintentionalnatureorevenvolitionalinfractionsofaminornaturecanandshouldbehandledbygentlereprimand.Onlywhensuchinfractionsbecomerepetitiveordefiantshouldtheybehandledinafirmerway. StudentsofChristianChapelAcademy(CCA)areexpectedtobehaveinamannerthatisconsistentwithChristianstandardsatalltimes,bothonandoffcampus.Itisourgoalthateachstudentwilldevelopalevelofself-disciplinethatwillallowthemtomatureandsuccessfullyattaintheirgoals. Thefollowingprovidesadditionalguidanceandconsiderations:

● Thepurposeofdisciplineistoencourageanddevelopself-discipline.Ourdesireisforallstudentstohaveaheartfordoingwhatisright.

● AsacommunityofChristians,webelieveitiseachindividual’sresponsibilitytorepresentGod,theirfamily,theirschool,andthemselvesinapositivemanner.

● AttendingCCAisaprivilege,notaright.Rulesandguidelinesaredesignedtodefinewhatisconsideredtobeproperbehavior.Astudent’shonesty,repentance,andcooperationareindicativeofthestudent’sdesiretobeatCCAandwhetherornothe/sheiswillingtotakeresponsibilityforhis/herownactions.

● Christianloveisattheheartofalldiscipline.ThechildwholearnstoobeyparentsandteachersisdevelopingalifestylethatencouragesobediencetoGod.

● Ourgoalistodevelopyoungpeopleofcharacter.Itiscriticalthatparentssupportthedisciplineeffortsoftheschoolandhelpmaintainhighstandardsofconduct24hoursaday,7daysaweek.

Itisthedesireoftheschooltodemonstratecompassionforthestudentinanygivensituationwith

ParentalCooperation:CCAdesiresfortheretobeapositiveandconstructiveworkingrelationshipbetweentheschool(administrators,teachers,andstaff)andastudent’sparent(s)/guardian.Accordingly,theschoolreservestherightnottorenewortoterminateastudent’senrollmentiftheschoolreasonablyconcludesthattheactionsofaparentorguardianmakessuchapositiveandconstructiverelationshipimpossible.ParentsareexpectedtosupporttherulesofCCA(andindividualclassroomrules/policies)andsupportCCA’senforcementofthem. School-wideExpectations:Inorderforourstudentstoreachthegoalofself-discipline,theymustknowwhatisexpectedfromthem.Atthebeginningoftheschoolyear,thestudentswillbegivenabrief,butthorough,summaryofwhatisexpectedofthemfromboththeprincipalandtheirclassroomteacher(s).Theseexpectationsarebuiltaroundthefollowingprinciples:

teacherand/ortheadministration DetentionandSuspensions Shouldmisbehaviororconductresultintheassigningofdetention,thefollowingprocedureswillbeused:

● DisciplinaryReferralorDetentionNoticewillbesenthomewiththestudentinformingtheparent/guardianofthecauses.Thenoticemustbesignedbytheparent/guardianandreturnedthenextscheduledschoolday.Detentionwillbeservedthedayfollowingtheissueofthenotice,whenthesignedformisreturnedtoschool.

● ShouldastudentneglecttoreturntheDisciplinaryReferralorDetentionNotice,ormisstheassigneddetention,theamountoftimetobeservedwilldouble.Amaximumofforty-fiveminutesperdetentionwillresultforstudentsin1stthrough8thgrade.AmaximumofthirtyminutesperdetentionwillbegivenforstudentsinK5.

RenWeb CCAutilizestheRenWeb™SchoolManagementSoftwareSystem.Thissystemallowsparentsandstudentssecureinternetaccesstoinformationassociatedwiththestudent’sclassroomactivities,aswellasattendance,dailyschedule,gradebookdetails,home-work,discipline,assignments,schooldirectory,reportcards,teacherannouncements,calendareventsandmuchmore.ParentsareexpectedtosignupforRenWebtextandemailalerts;thiswillkeepyouinformedofhappeningsatCCA. Pleasenote:Iftheparent’saccountisoutstandingforanyreason,accesstoRenWeb™isdisableduntiltheaccountisbroughtcurrent.ItisimperativethatparentsandHighSchoolstudentsnotifytheBusinessOfficeofanyemailchangesasinformationregardingdualcredits,academiccontact,scheduling,etc.issentviaemailinRenWeb.
