APPRENTICESHIP
Apprenticeship training combines on-the-job experience with related classroom instruction.
Apprentices MUST be registered with the US Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship,
and with the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Registering for adult
education programs DOES NOT automatically enroll anyone as an apprentice. Employers
(sponsors) must contact the Apprenticeship Coordinator to facilitate the registration process. The
Apprenticeship Coordinator is located at the Medford Campus (for Burlington County
employers). For more information call (609) 654-0200 ext. 486.
BCIT/BCC DUAL REGISTRATION
Burlington County Institute of Technology and Burlington County College have established dual
registration for many programs offered at BCIT. Students should register with BCC at the
beginning of the semester after receiving course confirmation letters from BCIT. Students
should send BCC registrations directly to BCC with appropriate fees--$150.00 per three credit
course. At the conclusion of the academic year, BCIT will send grades to BCC. For more
information about BCC, contact John Polomano at (609) 894-9311 x1260.

BCIT REGISTRATION INFORMATION
There are two ways to register for a course:
Complete a registration form and mail it in with payment to: BCIT Adult Education, 695
Woodlane Road, Westampton, NJ 08060.
IN PERSON
Come to the Medford or Westampton Campus, fill out a registration form, and submit it
with payment for the course.
Absences
Students must have a minimum attendance of 85%. Some programs have more stringent
attendance requirements because of federal and/or state regulations governing licensure.
Students must adhere to these requirements.
There are no excused absences for Adult Education Programs.
Administration
The administration reserves the right to withdraw any course which has insufficient
registration, and to change the schedule when circumstances warrant a change.
Admission Requirements
All students applying for admission to Adult Education Programs must be 18 years of
age.
In-school, high school students with senior standing, and 18 years of age who are
enrolled in a sending district school or BCIT, may be in an Adult Education Program
with written permission from the principal or superintendent from the school in which
they are enrolled. This written permission must be submitted at the time of registration.
All students must pay registration and tuition fees.
Students applying for State Licensing programs, which have high school diploma or
equivalent as a requirement, must provide a copy of this documentation.
Cancellation Policy
All courses are subject to cancellation where registration is insufficient. A 100% refund
will be made for classes cancelled by Burlington County Institute of Technology.
Certificate Programs
Students must maintain a 70% (2.0) grade average or they may be placed on academic
probation, subject to recommendation for dismissal.
Certificates
Completion certificates are issued upon successful completion of the semester and a
minimum attendance of 85%. Some programs have more stringent attendance
requirements because of federal and/or state regulations governing licensure. Students
must adhere to these requirements.
Class Visitations
Prospective students may monitor one class session, tuition free. Arrangements must be
made in advance through the Adult Education Office.
Computer Flash Drives/Memory Devices

Memory devices sold to students will be retained by the instructor until the end of the
semester. Students are not permitted to bring memory devices of any kind to class. This
policy is in place to reduce the possibility of spreading computer viruses.
Course Cost
Prices for each course are listed. Cost includes applicable text, kits, supplies, etc., except
where noted otherwise. Prices are subject to change.
Course Notifications/Cancellations
Class confirmation letters will be acknowledged by mail, one week prior to the beginning
of the semester.
Burlington County Institute of Technology reserves the right to cancel or discontinue any
scheduled courses at its discretion.
The decision to cancel any course, due to lack of enrollment, will be made at the
beginning of each semester. Students will be notified promptly of course cancellations
and will be entitled to a full refund.
Criminal History/Background Check
There are courses that may require a criminal history/background check for a New Jersey
state certification/license.
Drop Class Policy
The Burlington County Institute of Technology-Adult Division permits a student to drop
a class after enrolling in the class, and at least 24 hours prior to the first class session with
the exception of Practical Nursing, Certified Nurse Aide, Certified Homemaker/Home
Health Aide, and CDL. Withdrawals made less than 60 days prior to the start date of
Practical Nursing are not eligible for reimbursement of acceptance fees. Withdrawals for
Certified Nurse Aide or Certified Homemaker/Home Health Aide must be made at least
14 days prior to the start date of class to be eligible for a refund. Withdrawals made for
CDL must be made at least 7 days prior to the start date of class to be eligible for a
refund. A full refund minus the $25.00 registration fee will be made to the student
provided the student adheres to these guidelines. A student is not eligible for a refund
after this time period has elapsed. No refund requests will be honored beginning 24
hours prior to the first class.
In the event a student drops or fails a course for any reason, including attendance, and the
student wants to take the same course again, the student must submit a new
application/registration to re-enroll in the course/program and pay all tuition/fees.
Emergency School Closing
Each class will organize a telephone chain to be used if an emergency closing is
necessary. The Adult Education Emergency Call Number is 2674, which will be
broadcast if school is closed due to inclement weather.
Parking
Students are to park in the student parking lots. No parking is permitted along driveways.
Refund Policy
Refund requests must be received in writing and will be honored up to 24 hours prior to
the first class session with the exception of Practical Nursing, Certified Nurse Aide,
Certified Homemaker/Home Health Aide, and CDL. Withdrawals made less than 60
days prior to the start date of Practical Nursing are not eligible for reimbursement of
acceptance fees. Withdrawals for Certified Nurse Aide or Certified Homemaker/Home
Health Aide must be made at least 14 days prior to the start date of class to be eligible for

a refund. Withdrawals made for CDL must be made at least 7 days prior to the start date
of class to be eligible for a refund.
A $25.00 registration fee will be deducted from all refund requests.
No refund requests will be honored that are made less than 24 hours before the start of
the first class session.
Senior Citizens
Senior citizens (over 50) are entitled to a $10.00 discount on tuition for a class that costs
at least $250.00. The student must register in-person for this discount.
Sequential Module/Semester Program Enrollment
Students enrolled in a multiple semester/module program must meet all requirements in
their current semester/module to enroll in the subsequent semester/module.
Any student registered for an advanced semester/module who has not met all the
requirements of the current semester/module course will receive a refund of tuition paid
for the advanced semester/module minus the $25.00 registration fee, as the student cannot
advance to the next semester/module without successfully completing the current
semester/module. Students should be aware of current program standing before enrolling
in an advanced semester/module.
Smoking
No smoking is permitted at any time on school grounds.
Supplies
Students may be required to purchase supplies in selected programs.
Textbooks
Textbooks are included in most programs except where noted. Textbooks, kits, supplies,
etc. are non-refundable.
Third Party Registration
Any agency that desires to register a student should have all required paper work to the
Adult Education Division nine (9) working days before the date of the final registration.
Failure to submit all pertinent paperwork will result in relinquishing the seat to the public
for admission/registration.
Tuition
The entire tuition must be paid at the time of registration. You can pay by cash, check,
money order, or charge (VISA or MASTERCARD). There is a $50.00 charge for checks
issued to Burlington County Institute of Technology that are returned due to insufficient
funds.
Veterans
All certificate programs are approved by the Department of Military and Veteran’s
Affairs.

BCIT offers a wide range of customized training opportunities for employers in Burlington
County. Our training programs are competitive in pricing and are developed to meet the specific
needs of the employer. BCIT works closely with employers, union representatives, and other
concerned parties interested and dedicated to the development of a well-trained workforce. All
areas of training in this brochure are available as customized training at either the employer’s
location or at a BCIT campus. Additional programs may also be developed and customized to

BCIT CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
HEATING, VENTILATION, AIR CONDITIONING, AND REFRIGERATION
This program will cover the operation of air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration systems.
The theory of operation, installation, and troubleshooting techniques will be stressed. Computer
simulators, DDC operating systems, and actual components will be taught along with good
safety practices. Legislation was signed into law on December 20, 2007 that established a State
Board of Examiners of Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R)
Contractors. BCIT curriculum follows the new mandates under recent legislation requiring

This program provides high tech training in the automotive field. Auto Technology I includes
fundamentals, steering and suspension, and braking systems (disc, drum, and ABS). This course
is recommended for those persons wanting to attain ASE certification in A-4 Steering and
Suspension, and A-5 Brakes. Auto Technology II includes power trains and drivelines,
electricity, and ignition. This course is recommended for those persons wanting to attain ASE
certification in A-3 Manual Drive Trains and Axles and A-6 Electrical/Electronic Systems.

COSMETOLOGY
This program covers all of the areas required by the State Board of Cosmetology to meet the
state of NJ requirements for licensure. Students are required to complete a minimum of 1,000
hours of instruction and must attain competencies in each of the following areas: State Laws and
regulations, Sanitation and Sterilization, Skin Care and Shaving, Hair and Scalp Treatments,
Shampooing, Hair Shaping, Hairstyling, Hair Coloring, Chemical Curl Reformation, Manicuring
and Pedicuring, Related Sciences, Professional Ethics, Shop/Salon Management, and State Board
Exam Prep. This licensed program has state mandated attendance requirements.
Prerequisites include a high school diploma or GED for state licensing examination. Day
program is ten (10) months in duration. Upon successful attainment of cosmetology
license, students are eligible for an additional 13 credits at BCC.

CULINARY ARTS
This program provides an overview of the commercial foods industry covering positions and job
skills from basic kitchen helpers to working chefs. Areas of instruction include sanitation, safety,
usage and care of equipment and utensils, basic food preparation, purchasing, and management.
The “SERV-SAFE” curriculum will prepare students to take the “SERV-SAFE” certification
examination. Students must purchase a uniform.

This nationally recognized course and its subsequent certification will enable the student to begin
or further a career in the food service industry. The course stresses the importance of safe and
sanitary receiving and storage, preparation, and service practices in a food service establishment.
Upon completion of the course all students will take the National Restaurant Association’s
(NRA) ServSafe Examination. This 90-question test must be passed with a grade of 75% or
better for the student to be awarded a five year ServSafe Certificate.

DENTAL ASSISTING
The Dental Assisting program consists of a strong blend of didactic and clinical based instruction
in a state-of-the-art facility in combination with an extramural clinical experience with some of
the area’s finest dental professionals. This is a ten-month program fully accredited by the
Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association (ADA) recognized by
the Council on Accreditation and by the United States Department of Education. The 1,080
hours include didactic and clinical hours. Upon successful completion of course work and
examinations, this program will qualify the students to earn the following credentials:
New Jersey Dental Radiology License
Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), a national credential sponsored by the Dental Assisting
National Board (DANB) including Infection Control Exam (ICE), Radiation Health and
Safety Exam (RHS), and General Chairside Exam (GC)

Students must present documentation of a high school diploma or equivalent, physical

DENTAL RADIOLOGY
This Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners approved course will prepare working dental
assistants to take quality x-rays. Areas covered include the history and development of x-ray, its
nature and properties, effects of radiation exposure, x-ray film and its processing, correcting
faulty radiographs, intraoral and extraoral radiology, and patient management, with an emphasis
on radiation hygiene and protection and OSHA standards. Practical experience will be given in
intraoral and extraoral radiology techniques. Students must be employed in a dental office,
have good moral character, and have a high school diploma or equivalent to enroll in this
program. This course requires a special application. Course will consist of 25 hours
didactic and 20 hours lab. Clinical hours will be completed at dental office where student
is employed.

DIESEL TECHNOLOGY
This program provides entry level training. Students learn by servicing and repairing diesel
engines used in today’s fleet operations. The first semester areas of instruction include safety,
tools, preventative maintenance inspection, electrical components, truck axle/drive shaft,
wheels/tires, and truck brake systems. During the second semester commercial wiring, related
technology, technical math, and motor controls will be covered.

This program provides a comprehensive understanding of basic electrical principles and
concepts, along with technical skills. The first semester areas of instruction include residential
wiring, commercial wiring, and troubleshooting. The second semester includes instruction in
commercial wiring, related technology, technical math, and motor controls. The National
Electrical Code and Ohm’s Law is stressed throughout the program.

HEALTH OCCUPATIONS
The following certification programs are offered within the Health Occupations field: Practical
Nursing, Nurse Aide (CNA), Home Health Aide, Pharmacy Technician, and Medical Assistant.
PRACTICAL NURSING
Practical nursing consists of classroom, laboratory, clinical conference, and clinical practice.
Approximately fifty percent of the hours will be devoted to classroom theory and laboratory.
Approximately fifty percent of the hours will be dedicated to clinical experience and clinical
conference. Areas of instruction include Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Nutrition,
Personal and Professional Relations, Growth and Development, Fundamentals of Nursing,
Medical-Surgical Nursing, Maternal-Child Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, and Geriatric Nursing.
Upon completion of this program, the graduate will be qualified to take the NCLEX-PN State
Board exam for licensure. All applicants must successfully pass an entrance test and be
interviewed prior to acceptance into this program. Applicants are required to pay an
additional non-refundable $100.00 fee for the entrance exam. This program also requires a

Students will be introduced to the therapeutic sensory applications of aromatherapy. Emphasis
will be placed on developing a respectful appreciation and understanding of the nature of
therapeutic oils and how the student can utilize these in their personal life. A $20.00 materials
fee will be charged for the use of essential oils, containers, and base products which students will
use to make their products. Students will be making products such as aromatic powder,
body/linen mists, massage lotion, bath salts, etc.

This beginning course introduces the basic concepts of Yoga. Topics covered include postures
and breathing practices and deep relaxation useful in daily life for reducing stress and creating a

This course will cover the history and basic principles of the science and art of classical
homeopathy which is a natural method of healing using the principle of “like cures like”. Some
thirty remedies will be discussed for first aid and acute conditions. Emphasis will be on

This course is taught by a certified Interior Designer. Students will take a room in their home and
create a new space. Topics covered include principles and elements of design; measuring space;
creating a floor plan with efficient traffic flow; selecting furniture, finishes, and colors;
specifying and placing light fixtures; placing electric and phone lines; creating a budget; drawing
wall elevations; creating a 3-D model, organizing a presentation board, and presenting a project
in a studio atmosphere.
