Of course nothing brings real life perspective like experience, and the businesses of Tisdale who have supported our Work Experience program have done just that. Limited in trade expertise, facility, etc ..., support from our business community provides our students with learning experiences that would not otherwise be possible. T.M.S.S June 2018 Newsletter Principal’s Message

As we approach the end of May and

the imminent conclusion of the 2017-18

school year, I wanted to take the

opportunity to thank our community of

Tisdale for their contribution and

commitment to the enhancement of

learning for students at TMSS. First, I would

like to extend a thank-you to all those

people who have graciously devoted their

time as guest speakers in our classrooms.

Such experiences bring real life perspective

and outlook that enriches and brings

curricula to life. Of course nothing brings

real life perspective like experience, and the

businesses of Tisdale who have supported

our Work Experience program have done

just that. Limited in trade expertise, facility,

etc ..., support from our business

community provides our students with

learning experiences that would not

otherwise be possible. Lastly, I wanted to

extend my deepest appreciation to our

School Community Council members. Your

willingness to take on the responsibility that

comes with such positions is admirable unto

itself, but the manner in which you embrace

it goes well beyond expectations. I have

thoroughly enjoyed working with each and

every one of you and look forward to much

of the same in 2018-19.

Shout outs

Grade 6- Abby Mooney deserves a big shout-out this month. She definitely has grit, and

doesn’t let challenges stand in her way. She is continually trying to improve any task that

comes her way. She is developing resilience, and through self-discipline, improving so many

skills in all areas of her learning. She treats all learning activities as very important and is

such a pleasure to be around! Keep workin’ hard, Abby!

Grade 7- Mrs. MacFadden would like to make a shout out to Drayden Adams for the month of May.

Drayden has been working really hard in ELA to use his class time to his advantage. He is coming to

class prepared and has been completing his assignments. Great job Drayden! Keep it up!

Grade 8- The Gr. 8 student of the month is Benson Paguia. Benson is a dedicated student

who tries his hardest and consistently hands in top quality work. He always has a smile on

his face and displays kindness towards his peers daily. He is always polite and respectful to

his teachers, which certainly does not go unnoticed. Way to go Benson - your personality

and determination are admirable!

Grade 9- Dagny Keen is a friendly and outgoing student who always has a smile and warm

hello to greet you. She has a great imagination and works hard to do her best in her classes.

You can usually spot Dagny giving it her all during lunch hour activities in the gym or

outside. Dagny is one that will try her best in all she does and when she doesn't feel like she

did her best she will try again to improve. She enjoys spending time with her family and she

loves country music. Dagny is compassionate, responsible and a pleasure to work with in

class.

Grade 10- Heather Cresswell is this month’s grade ten Student of the Month. Heather is a

very conscientious, diligent worker in class. She asks great questions that shows how

insightful her thinking is. Need to borrow some notes? Heather’s will be organized, neat

and easy to follow. She always works well with any partner she’s assigned and she stays on

task. When she’s not busy doing school work, she’s dancing at the Tisdale Dance Center.

She represents TMSS well both in and out of school.

Grade 11- Parker Fofonoff – Parker is ready to try any new activity and puts forth 100%

effort in every task. He perseveres through challenging performance tasks. He challenges

himself by trying new activities and being persistent with working on his skills. He is always

School in the Bush

On Friday, May 4th, TMSS grade seven students had the opportunity to visit the Kinistin Educational

Centre. TMSS and KEC students learned about and experienced a variety of outdoor life skills

together. Some of the stations included plucking a duck, filet, batter and fry a fish, snare fishing,

skinning a rabbit, making rabbit stew, and making bannock. All of these were cooked over an open

fire. Most students were excited to be able to participate hands on, others were content just

standing back to observe. Some memorable moments from the day include: discovering a whole egg

inside one of the ducks, and a baby fish that wasn’t quite digested yet in one of the fish we filleted.

The TMSS students enjoyed making connections and forming new relationships with all the staff and

students from Kinistin. We at TMSS are grateful for all organizers and volunteers who made the day a

success.

WHAT IS BAND CAMP?

A great way to receive excellent musical instruction in a

fun-filled week! The Saskatchewan Band Association

offers comprehensive instruction for woodwind, brass and

percussion students who have one or more years of

playing experience. Band Camps are hosted in Regina,

Saskatoon and Yorkton as week-long day camps. Kenosee

Lake Junior Camp is offered as a week-long full residential

camp at Clearview Camp in beautiful Kenosee Lake

Provincial Park.

What participants experience at SBA Band Camps

SBA Band camps provide an incredible mix of private

lessons, sectional instruction, master classes, theory, ear

and rhythm training along with full band, staff

performances and even some recreational activities to add

some extra fun to the week. Participants experience a

week filled with making new friends, specialized band

instruction and fun that they won't soon forget!

On the first morning of camp participants are assigned to a

band that corresponds to their musical experience and

performance ability. SBA Band Camps focus on improving

performance skills that relate directly to the positive

experiences of playing in a large ensemble. Throughout

the week participant's schedules vary to accommodate the

wide range of activities the camp offers. Of course, to

showcase the hard work of the campers, each camp wraps

up with an exciting public concert.

Emergency Evacuation Drill TMSS will be participating in an Emergency Evacuation Drill on Thursday, May 31 at approximately 2:45pm. Students and staff will be evacuated to the Tisdale Civic Centre where attendance protocols will be reviewed. Once we are satisfied that all students understand how the drill works, we will return to TMSS in time for school dismissal. At the time of the drill, you will receive an emergency drill notification. You will not need to

come to attend to your child. Thank you.
