The patient was admitted in critical condition In the morning, Oct 9 th , 2014, 8:40 am, patient H.H.T( born in 1958, resident of Hoc Mon Province, HCMC) was admitted in critical condition. He had been suffering from chronic back pain for years and receiving treatments at various hospitals but the condition remained unchanged and worsened in time. After the admission, the medical team at Tam Tri Sai Gon General Hospital dedicated their time to examine the patient’s condition and later on he was diagnosed with disc herniation (L4/L5). The patient then underwent a surgery. Dr. Nguyen Tai Chanh – General Manager of Tam Tri Sai Gon General Hospital said: “Spinal Disc Herniation is a medical condition in which there is a tear in the outer, fibrous ring of an intervertebral disc allows the soft, central portion to bulge out. The pain shall subside when the patient is lying on his/her side and increase when he/she is coughing, defecating or pressing the joint. If the condition is severe, the pain may spread to the bottom and thighs, thus may even lead to paralysis. The causes of disc herniation include various external risk factors like occupational hazards, excessive use of the back muscles, trauma etc. The picture illustrates that the patient is in critical condition.” 1
