Ni-MH Products
Strong current to drive power tools, vacuum cleaners, electric bikes and other applications that need the ability to generate significant power
TMK’s high current charge Ni-MH batteries have very low degradation, with less than 5% after 100 full charge/discharge cycles.
The Company’s batteries can store and provide power in a wide temperature range (-58F to +176F) and are a reliable energy resource for solar lighting and field-UPS
systems (uninterruptible power supply) TMK’s batteries have a slow discharge rate, retaining over 90% of their full capacity
after 28 days, making them ideal for field UPS systems with minimum maintenance
High Current Charge Ni-MH
-
Ni-MH batteries are widely used in:
• Household appliances, vacuums
• Power tools
• Cordless phones
• Digital cameras
• Electric toys
• Medical devices
Ni-MH Battery Applications and Advantages
Advantages of Ni-MH Batteries:
• Capacity: 2-3x higher than Ni-Cd
• Longer shelf-life than Li-on and Ni-Cd
• Less harmful than Ni-Cd
• Higher shelf-life than Li-on
• Less expensive to produce
• Advantage in high current drain applications

Manufacturing Capacity
Current 100,000 square-foot Ni-MH battery manufacturing facility located in Shenzhen, China
Monthly output 1,500,000 pieces and current maximum capacity of 200,000 cells per day; expanding to 400,000 cells per day
TMK plans to install new Ni-MH manufacturing lines on unused space in Shenzhen manufacturing facility
New line estimated installation costs –
$ 2 million/line
New line estimated revenues –
$ 20 million/line 2011
Shenzhen provides access to a large pool of technically skilled manufacturing employees
530 total employees of which 20+ personnel are in R&D and 30+ personnel are in marketing
-
Quality Assurance/Quality Control
TMK is positioned as a quality leader
Power performance is a critical component of consumer product end-user satisfaction
Capacity decline, working temperature range, output performance and safety of a rechargeable battery system is impacted by one single battery cell, not the entire battery set, therefore, each cell’s performance and consistency is critical
TMK has rigorous quality assurance and control procedures that dictate a series of multi-hour, extensive tests on every cell produced prior to being built into a rechargeable battery system
These procedures result in superior performance relative to competitors in terms of failure and return-rate
TMK’s performance is similar to Japanese manufacturers (“Gold Standard”) with a Chinese manufacturing cost structure
The Company has successfully obtained all of its ISO, UL, SGS and other licenses
-
Global Ni-MH industry revenue reached $5 billion in 2009.
• China domestic Ni-MH industry revenue reached $3 billion USD in 2009 and has grown 36% for the past three years
• Other Key Markets include US and Europe which are growing at 10% annually
Rechargeable Battery Market
-
Traditional Businesses – Household appliances, small power tools, medical devices and toys will continue to grow with domestic and international demand for new product.
Power Tools Conversion – Historically, rechargeable power tools used Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries, but Ni-Cd has been phased out in Europe and other locations due to toxicity. Ni-Cd batteries are being replaced by Ni-MH. The addressable market is 5x the size of the TMK’s traditional market.

Industry Overview – Competition
Company Main products (Ni-MH
battery) Comparative Advantage
BYD AAA、AA、A、SC、C、D
Products of BYD include high discharge rate dynamic batteries. BYD has strong financial resources, large capacity, and strong raw materials pricing strategy. The inventory turnover ratio of BYD is also higher than TMK. However, the consistency of BYD's Ni-MH is lower than TMK's, and its products have higher return rates than TMK's. Overall quality control is weaker than TMK.
GP AAA、AA、A、SC、C、D
GP has a long history and strong financial resources, and is mainly dedicated to the consumer single-cell Ni-MH market. Its AA and AAA products has some advantages over TMK and some middle and high-end products compete against TMK.
Shenzhen Grepow
Battery Co., Ltd.
AA,AAA,SC,C,D Shenzhen Grepow has good cost control in AA, AAA and standard single-cell Ni-MH batteries segments. They target consumer batteries and lack experience in production of dynamic batteries to compete with TMK.
Hunan Corun Power Co., Ltd.
AAA、AA、A、SC、C、D、F Hunan Corun produces from nickel, one of raw materials in Ni-MH batteries. However, the weak quality control of the company results the inferior quality of its products.
Huanyu AAA、AA、A、SC、C、D
Huanyu has a long production history and its main products are standard
single cell Ni-MH batteries targeting the low-end market. Huanyu competes
with TMK in the low-end market and the quality of its products are inferior to
TMK's.
TMK Competitive Advantage
-
New Battery Types
Growth Through Expansion of Portfolio of Product Offerings
Lithium-ion Battery: TMK has identified a number of potential opportunities to expand into the Lithium-ion space
Ms. Linda Liu, TMK CEO, has ten years of experience in the lithium-ion space and holds a patent (obtained in China and pending in US) for the application of lithium phosphate batteries in large-scale, back-up power supplies.
Hybrid Battery: as part of its long-term strategy, TMK plans to leverage its expertise in Ni-MH batteries into the nascent hybrid battery market
TMK has received a letter of intent from two Chinese automotive manufacturers for a hybrid battery
TMK is in the initial study phase of the hybrid battery market. Additional research and development will be required to establish new QA/QC standards for these batteries
-
Advantages of Li-on Batteries:
Lighter: Li-on battery weighs less than other rechargeable battery options
Lower Discharge Rate: Loses only about 5% of its charge per month vs. 20% for regular discharge Ni-MH
No Memory Effect: Li-on battery does not have to be completely discharged before recharging
Application: frequently used in PDAs, laptops, cell phones and other applications
Li-on Batteries sensitive to high temperatures however, which can increase degradation.
Newer technologies, such as lithium-phosphate, are beginning to expand lithium applications from high energy (cell phones, laptops, etc) to high power (appliances, tools, etc).
Lithium Ion (Li-on) Batteries
-
Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Market
Numerous hybrid developments on the horizon: FAW and Dongfeng recently developed a hybrid
bus line
Chang’an developed CM9 sample and starting mass production
Shanghai Volkswagen launch of Touran hybrid
Shanghai GM signed a clean and efficient energy-saving and environmental protection automobile project contract with GM
Chery to launch BSG/ISG's hybrid cars, and prepare for mass production
HEV market worldwide growth 32% in 2005/06
More than 530,000 HEV cars sold in 2007
China plans to sell 1,000,000 new-generation clean energy cars (HEV) in 2011
China is expected to produce over 30M electric
bikes in 2010, up from 8M in 2007. China HEV battery market estimated to reach
$5.8 billion in 2011
As hybrid and electric vehicles (HEV) become more popular, HEV expected to comprise over 50% of Ni-MH battery market in 2015
