October 2010 National Chevy AssociationTM 1

Hi from Nat’l. Chevy, I hope you all had a great summer. It feels good in our area now with lower humidity, cool nights, warm days. Temperatures actually dropped to 38° the other night and even that felt good. The trees are starting to change and all the beautiful colors should be on display soon. We’re still trying to get our roof repaired after the tree damage and it looks like we should be dry real soon. The tree actually shattered some large beams, but the I beams kept more damage from occurring. I had one good thought in all this – very few leaves to clean up this year. We’re still trying to finish some new parts and it looks like it’s time for me to start on a new catalog yet again. This one won’t require as much change as the last one, which makes me happy! Thanks to those of you sending me pictures and stories. I truly appreciate it. Here’s hoping that more of you will do the same before your car is put away. There’s not much more to say. Our friend, Mick Kieffer, recently passed away. Some of you have probably seen him as “the Nerd Family” or more recently as “Barney Fife.” He traveled a lot until his health failed. We will miss him. ‘Til next time……..

Now ShowingTo the National Chevy. Assoc. Here are a couple of pictures of my ‘52 Styleline Deluxe and my ‘49 Fleetline. My ‘52 was the cover car on the Parts-Line newsletter back in 2007, I think. I can’t seem to be able to find that issue right now. I’ve got lots of parts from you folks. I hope y’all like my ‘49 Fleetline too. I have won many awards with my cars. I’m having a blast to boot!Thank you N.C.A.Sincerely,Bernie J. Camarillo

Cover Car

Dear National Chevy, In your last newsletter you requested more pictures and stories from the members. First, however, many thanks for your efforts in supplying all the parts that are needed in a restoration. Secondly, thanks to your courteous staff members for being patient with old timers who can’t hear as good as they used to. Now the story. Enclosed are pictures of my 1950 Chev that I bought in 1980 from the original owner, who couldn’t drive due to poor eyesight. I kept it as you see it until 2001 when I retired. It took me until 2008 to finish it the way I wanted. Picture 1: (cover image) is as it was when started Picture 2: is body off to make work easier Picture 3: is work in progress with the help of the overhead trolley Picture 4: the rest of the pictures are the finished product.

The car has a Chevy 283 engine and a Camaro 5-speed transmission with a 55/57 Chev rear axle set-up with a 3:08 rear end ratio. The master cylinders for the brake and clutch system are mounted on the fire wall, which makes it easier to route the exhaust system out through where they used to be. It’s been a daily driver with no troubles for the last 6,000 miles. I’ll follow up later with pictures of the “how” it went together.

Yours truly,Karl UntereinKingman, AZ

Now ShowingHi National Chevy Association, You’ve been requesting information and pictures of member’s cars so I thought I would send mine to you. The car is supposed to look the way they did it in the ‘50s. It’s nothing special, but I enjoy it. It’s a 1954 Two Ten four door. I built it on a budget, not having a lot of money to spend on it. The interior is just seat covers and carpet from a local discount store. I used insulation from a building supply to make the door panels and headliner. I got the shifter, door weather stripping, and custom tail lights from National Chevy. The paint is dark grey primer. The car is mechanically very sound. I drove it to Rebel Run in Lima, Ohio (about 250 miles) and Rock’n Race Weekend in West Salem, Ohio (about 200 miles).

Thank you,Don CutlipWilliamstown, WV
