9-2320-272-24-1WARNINGSUMMARYHearingprotectionisrequiredforthedriverandpassenger.Hearingprotectionisalsorequiredforallpersonnelworkinginandaroundthisvehiclewhiletheengineisrunning(AR-40-5andTBMED501).Ifrequiredtoremaininsidevehicleduringextremeheat,occupantsshouldfollowthewaterintake,work/restcycle,andotherstresspreventivemeasures(FM21-10,FieldHygieneandSanitation).IfNBCexposureissuspected,allairfiltermediashouldbehandledbypersonnelwearingprotectiveequipment.ConsultwithyourunitNBCofficerorNBCNC0forappropriatehandlingordisposalinstructions.ThisvehiclehasbeendesignedtooperatesafelyandefficientlywithinthelimitsspecifiedinthisTM.OperationbeyondtheselimitsisprohibitedbyIAWAR70-lwithoutwrittenapprovalfromthecommander,U.S.ArmyTank-automotiveandArmamentsCommand,ATTN:AMCPEO-CM-S,Warren,MI48397-5000.Neverworkunderdumpbodyunlesssafetybracesareproperlypositioned.Failuretodothiswillresultininjurytopersonnel.Duringwinchingoperation,neverstandbetweenvehicles.Assistantmustremaininsecondaryvehicletoengageservicebrakeifcablesnapsorautomaticbrakefailswhiletowingvehicle.Failuretodothismayresultininjurytopersonnel.Accidentalorintentionalintroductionofliquidcontaminantsintotheenvironmentisinviolationofstate,federal,andmilitaryregulations.RefertoArmyPOL(para.l-7)forinformationconcerningstorage,use,anddisposaloftheseliquids.Failuretodosomayresultininjuryordeath.Cleaningsolventsareflammableandtoxic.Donotusenearopenflameandalwayshaveafireextinguishernearbywhensolventsareused.Useonlyinwell-ventilatedplaces,wearprotectiveclothing,anddisposeofcleaningragsinapprovedcontainer.Failuretodothiswillresultininjurytopersonneland/ordamagetoequipment.Eyeshieldsmustbewornwhencleaningwithcompressedair.Compressedairsourcewillnotexceed30psi(207kPa).Failuretodosomayresultininjurytopersonnel.Extremecareshouldbetakenwhenremovingsurgetankfillercapiftemperaturegaugereadsabove175F(79C).Steamorhotcoolantunderpressurewillcauseinjury.Alcoholusedinthealcoholevaporatorisflammable,poisonous,andexplosive.Donotsmokewhenremovingalcoholevaporatororaddingfluid,anddonotdrinkfluid.Failuretodothiswillresultininjuryordeath.Donotperformelectricalcircuittestingfueltankwithfillcaporsendingunitremoved.Fuelmayignite,causinginjurytopersonnel.Whenperformingbatterymaintenance,ensurebatteriesareseatedandclampeddown,allrubberbootsareinstalled,clampsarewelldownonbatteryposts,andallbatterycableslieflatagainstthetopofthebatteries.Failuretodothismayresultininjurytopersonneland/ordamagetoequipment.Ensurecompanionseatbeltsarenotcaughtinsidebatterybox.Thiswillcausebeltstorotwhichmayleadtoiujuryofpersonnel.OnM938/Al/A2modelvehicles,removesparetirepriortochangingtireandinstalltireinsparetirecarrieraftertirechangeiscomplete.Operationofcraneand/orvehicleenginewhilevehicleisonjacksmayresultininjurytopersonnelordamagetoequipment.Neverassembleordisassembletireandrimassemblywhileinflated,useinflationtoseatlockringonsplitrimortireontwo-piecerim,orinflateatirewithoutatireinflationcage.Injurytopersonnelmayresult.Donotdisconnectairlinesorhoses,removesafetyvalvesorCTIScomponents,orperformbrakechamberrepairsbeforedrainingairreservoirs.Smallpartsunderpressuremayshootoutwithhighvelocity,causinginjurytopersonnel.WarningbTM9-2320-272-24-1WARNlNGSUMMARY(Contd)Removealljewelrywhenworkingonelectricalcircuits.Jewelrycomingincontactwithelectricalcircuitsmayproduceashortcircuit,causingextremeheat,explosions,andflingparticlesofmetal.Failuretodosowillresultininjuryordeathanddamagetoequipment.Useeyeshieldsandfollowinstructionscarefullywhenperformingassembling,disassembling,ormaintenanceonthisdevice.Componentsofthisdeviceareunderspringtensionandmayshootoutatahighvelocity.Failuretodosowillresultininjurytopersonnel.Donotremovehoseswithenginerunningorstartenginewithhosesremoved.High-pressurefluidsmaycausehosestowhipviolentlyandsprayrandomly.Failuretodosomayresultininjurytopersonnel.Keephandsoutfrombetweenmetalsurfaceswhenremovingheavycomponents.Failuretodosomayresultininjurytopersonnel.Keeppersonneloutfromunderequipmentandcomponentsofequipmentwhensupportedbyonlyaliftingdevice.Suddenlossofliftingpowerorshiftinloadmayresultininjuryordeath.Donotdrainengine,transmission,orradiatorfluids,orremovelinescontainingthesefluids,whenhot.Doingsomayresultininjurytopersonnel.Vehiclewillbecomechargedwithelectricityifitcontactsorbreakshigh-voltagewires.Donotleavevehiclewhilehigh-voltagelinesareincontactwithvehicle.Failuretodosomayresultininjurytopersonnel.Wearhandprotectionwhenhandlingliftingandwinchingcables,hotexhaustcomponents,andpartswithsharpedges.Failuretodosomayresultininjurytopersonnel.Donotperformfuelsystemprocedureswhilesmokingorwithin50ft(15.2m)ofsparksoropenflame.Dieselfuelishighlyflammableandcanexplodeeasily,causinginjuryordeathtopersonneland/ordamagetoequipment.Ensuredrainvalveonaftercoolerisopenwhenfillingcoolingsystem.Failuretodosomayresultininjurytopersonnel.Turbochargerintakefinsareextremelysharpandturnatveryhighrpm.Keephandsandlooseitemsawayfromintakeopenings.Failuretodosomayresultininjurytopersonnel.Donotplacehand
