Titus 3
Doing Good for the Sake of
Gospel
TITUS 2:1-15
1 You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. 2 Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
TITUS 2:1-15
3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children,
TITUS 2:1-15
5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.6 Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.
TITUS 2:1-15
7 In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8 and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
TITUS 2:1-15
9 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, 10 and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.
TITUS 2:1-15
11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
TITUS 2:1-15
13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
TITUS 2:1-15
15 These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.
TITUS 1:16
16 They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.
Not all good are godly.
Godly manners are when it is written in the Bible but good
manners are when it is perceived by the
world.
Jews have the Mosaic laws of more than 100,000 plus Then
reduce it to 10 commandments then the Lord Jesus Christ
reduce it to 2; Loving God and Loving people.
Paul here emphasize two things:
• We must know what we believe in.
• We must know how to live on what we
believe in.
Without purpose in life, there is no
direction.
Paul’s advises on how to treat
or deal with different people.
1Older men to Young men
TITUS 2:2
2 Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
TITUS 2:6-8
6 Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. 7 In everything set them an example by doing what is good. The temperate man stays alert.
He is sober. He is focused for God.
Able to discern God’s will, keep from temptations
and do what God wishes. Retain strong focus on
God’s will.
We need to be alert and attentive to whatever God calls us to do.
Worthy of respect means honorable or dignified. a man we looked up to. He is separated for God. Shaped by God’s
presence in his heart, mind and life. He lives
for God’s purpose.
Only by staying close to the Lord will the
Lord’s presence in your life make you excel in
what you do.
It doesn’t mean he impresses people with
what position he has or what
possessions he has but by his person.
Self-control means self-discipline,
sensible.
A self-controlled man is a man who restrains
his thoughts and desires for the purpose
of pleasing God.
Sound in faith means right teaching and error free. It is the
right belief that thoroughly influenced by the truth of God.
Right perspectives enable
us to right responses.
Sound in love means Genuine
love, Agape kind of Love, whose priorities
are other people. Committed to the
interests and needs of others.
Devoted to caring for others
as God does.
Sound in Endurance means Patiently waits,
perseveres. He endures up to the
end.
Resolved to live out one’s devotion to God.
Immovable in his interest to serve God.
If a man is complete in endurance, this means
that he goes all the way. He is focused on
Christ’s return. He doesn’t turn back.
