NOTES

The Kyoto Imperial University Economic Society held its Grand Conference for the Tenth Year of Showa on the 1st and 2nd of June.

On the afternoon of the 1st, a lecture·meeting open to the public was held with the following programme:-

Prof. Kambe: Opening Address. Prof. Kojima: Public Loan Policy of Japan from the

Financial Point of View. Dr. Tsuneo Hori, Professor of the Osaka University of

Commerce: Mercantilism and Controlled Economy. Mr. Yosaburo Imanishi, Director of the Hanshin Electric

Railway Company: The Present Situation of Public and Private Railways in Japan.

In the evening of the same day, a dinner·party was given at the Rakuyukai Building by Prof. Kambe, Director of the Department, over 70 members attending.

The second day, both morning and afternoon, was devoted to a series of debates, many fresh and stimulating discussion being evoked by the following reports:-

Mr. Toichiro Ichitani, Professor of the Higher Commercial School of Kobe: A Conception of Neutral Money.

Mr. Kiichi Isobe, Professor of Kansai University: On the System of Industrial Cooperation.

Mr. Shojiro Imanishi, Assistant·Professor of the Imperial University of Taihoku: Economic Functions of Exchange Quotations.

Mr. Bunshichi Ohata, Professor of the Higher Commercial School of Wakayama: Public Finance and Political Economy.

Mr. Masanori Otani, Professor of Ritsumeikan University: Leading Principles of Japan's Public Finance.
