Title IProgram Review
2012-2013
Arnold Elementary
Kindergarten - 2nd grade
New for 2012-2013 Following the
introduction of the Common Core, nonfiction texts were ordered at the K-2 level in order to help align with the 50% nonfiction text reading aim of the CCSS for literature
New for 2012-2013 Monthly RTI meetings at
Arnold gave Title teachers and classroom teachers a scheduled opportunity to connect, collaborate, and touch base about students
This summer, Arnold Elementary will be offering a Summer Learning Program for students transitioning to grades 1-3.
New for 2012-2013 In order to better connect with parents,
we began using Remind 101, a text messaging system, at the K-6 level. This allowed us to send mass text messages to all K-6 parents who signed up for the service, and it replaced our previous method of sending postcards. The text messages were more immediate and relevant, since most parents have cell phones with text messaging capabilities.

Title I teacher assistant at Arnold was redefined and better utilized. Defined time during the day to read with at-
risk students, increasing their daily dose of reading
Responsible for picking up the students as well as the technology piece of the literacy group time, allowing for increased instruction from Title I teachers
Continuing for 2012-2013
Student ranking sheets were filled out for grade levels K through 6th at the end of last year to facilitate immediate testing in the fall of low- and middle-low progress students, as well as any students new to the district
Title I meetings were coordinated with Reading Recovery PD days to decrease the amount of missed contact time with students

Staff members discussed different interventions taking place or needing to take place before student is brought up to the referral team. This follows our district’s intervention plan and RTI model.

91 students serviced at Arnold 31 Kindergarten 35 First grade/Reading Recovery 25 Second grade
Groups were fluid and changed as necessary, and data was officially reviewed at each trimester
Student Selection and Exitat Arnold
Students at Arnold are selected based on teacher judgment and grade appropriate assessments, including the tasks of Clay’s Observation Survey and Rigby tests.
Students may receive an academic exit from the Title I program if they reach the appropriate grade level criteria at any point during the school year when they are receiving services. If there is not a waiting list, these students will continue to receive services so that they are getting extra support as needed. In situations when higher-need children are waiting for services, academic exit students will be discontinued from services and new students will be selected using the above criteria.
Service Delivery at Arnold
Students receiving Title I services at Arnold are pulled out from their classrooms for 40 minutes per day, 5 days a week.
Groups have no more than three students, and include students who have similar needs so that instruction can closely match student needs.
Student progress at Arnold
The following charts show the outcomes of 1st and 2nd grade students who received Title I services this school year.

New for 2012-2013
We were able to utilize an At-Risk Interventionalist to assist with Title 1 Reading and Math in grades 5 and 6.
Defined to assist small groups in a push-in and pull-out re-teach format.
Allowed student to teacher ratio to stay small and provide additional support for struggling students.
New for 2012-2013 Literacy Intervention Plans were completed 3 times a year and sent
home for parent signature. An information sheet went home as well to explain to parents what all the data meant for their child.
Literacy Intervention meetings with classroom teachers were in October and February. This was a chance for classroom teachers and Title 1 teachers to discuss specific student needs.
Parent Information Sheet Guide to help parents understand test scores and
assessments on the Literacy Intervention Plan.
New for 2012-2013 Weekly fluency monitoring was done every Friday
on students in grades 3-6.
Fluency benchmarks were administered three times a year and charted on a graph. These graphs were sent home with report cards each trimester.
New for 2012-2013 This summer, Keicher Elementary will be offering
a Summer Learning Program for students transitioning to grades 4-6.
Invitation to attend Summer Learning Program.
Summer Learning Program 64 at-risk students were invited to our 4-week
long Summer Learning program.
Students were selected based on Reading and Math performance levels, current reading level (Rigby, DRA, QRI), and at-risk indicators.
40 students enrolled in our program.

3rd grade Rigby Standards
Description Goal Time Table
A short reading selection that resembles a running record. Students are given a comprehension score and accuracy score. Score of 90% accuracy and 80% comprehension represent a passing score. Students are tested until they are unable to pass, this then represents their Rigby level. Short selections are numbered 1-30. Numbered levels correlate to grade equivalents.
